Re: FIFA 12 Previews
I was lucky enough to squeeze a couple of games. Had a meh feeling to it, because while the AI is much improved, your D is leaving just too much room for the opponent to control the ball. And unless you switch back to manually control your D-man, the rest of the boys just don't seem keen enough to apply any pressure on the CPU especially around the box. While tactically your D seems to be better positioned such as seeing some guys overlapping the fullbacks, they just seem to be content in watching the CPU develop their plays. It was nice to see the AI trying a few feint moves on me and you better time your tackles perfectly in this version, because the CPU would have pass you on turbo mode and will cost you an almost sure goal. Their passes just seem too accurate at this point.
Interesting that the demo will guide you directly towards a how to defend tutorial, because based on what I saw, you'll need it.
Rosters are outdated, and while EA advertises that 12 is a revolutionary step forward, I saw more of a polished version of 11.
Player models are better, in some cases as good as PES. You have 6 teams in the demo including Marseille, Milan, Man C, Dortmund, Barca and Arsenal.

Thanks for the precise analysis 10's. Looks like a frustrating game of video football. I'm reconsidering my pre-order now. What level of difficulty were you playing at?
Re: FIFA 12 Previews
That was on Pro and usually I am pretty competitive at that level but it terms of ball possession today, the CPU had a field trip.Rodster wrote:Thanks for the precise analysis 10's. Re: FIFA 12 Previews
Agree with 10s that the game plays that way out of the gate. But I think it's a matter of learning an entire new way to control the defense. The standing tackle/jostle button is much different than the old tackle buttons, much more forgiving and important.

Played a few more games, and I've got to say that they didn't exaggerate the change in defensive mechanics and the physics engine. There are enough legacy elements that it feels superficially similar, but the way the ball and players interact and the defensive changes are a bigger change than FIFA has seen in ages.

Didnt it seem the ai just pinged passes around before you could get near them? kinda how NHL is when you go to hit. Seemed that it made the gameplay real fast also.
Re: FIFA 12 Previews
Yeah, the CPU passes are too precise for me, even on the crosses it just seemed that the opponent would have a head start on me (no pun intended). What I liked however is that those guys that were used to abusing the X or A buttons will probably have a tougher time defending if not timed accurately.
Re: FIFA 12 Previews
I had a chance to play the PS3 demo and I would say it's a refreshing change to play D that way. The problem is I don't think I will remember to press the jockey button etc in the heat of battle. It will take some getting used to that's for sure.
I can't download the 360 demo yet but the PS3 version has a strange look to it. The stadiums look nice but the players have a shimmering sheen to them.

Re: FIFA 12 Previews
Yes. And that they could produce a skill move at will if I should ever somehow manage to be within a yard of them, irrespective of whether I'd pushed the tackle button or not. It also seems that when I have the ball, my AI team mates are not blessed with the ability to make a smart run into space for me. I'm experiencing a lot of knowing exactly where I want to put the ball, but being unable to do so because there's just nobody making the supporting run I was hoping for.Jimmydeicide wrote:Didnt it seem the ai just pinged passes around before you could get near them?

Man the demo has grown on me. I love the new defensive controls. Yeah the defensive AI is a bit of a letdown from last year but once I got a hang of the controls the game became more enjoyable. The only problem I have is with the PS3 controller. It's easier with the 360's double trigger and bumpers.
Re: FIFA 12 Previews
My 9 year old loves it and that's enough for me to order it today.
FIFA is one game where my daughter and I can spend time together, god bless her.
Damn you EA.. NCAA, Madden, NHL and now FIFA!

The game has gone from meh to solid for me. I love the defense controls by the user. Rob was right, you have to use the controls or play the tutorial over and over until it clicks.
One thing to remember about the lapse in the User AI is the R1 or RB (360) calls over your teammate for an assist to cover the ball carrier while you cover the player of your choice. Holding down the X button (PS3) auto instructs the your controlled player to cover the man with the ball.
I also love the jockey feature as well.

Re: FIFA 12 Previews
LMAO that Youtube compilation was hilarious although I have not seen any of those bugs in the demo. I'll be on the lookout now.

Dear God, that is some of the funniest s*** I've seen in a game engine in a while.Macca00 wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAR6I_T-uVc

Re: FIFA 12 Previews
I tried both demos and the 360 version looks much sharper. The drawback is there is a stutter during replays or cutscenes and I like the controls on the PS3 over the 360 for this game.
Haha I saw one of those freaky animation glitches. I saw one of the CPU players fall down and do a James Brown leg split and he got stuck in that position.
