Second verse same as the first.

The Colts went into Jacksonville for the second time in 3 days and took care of bidness yet again to a tune of 31-7.

The game started off with the Jaguars getting the ball first and marching down the field before Garrard threw this touchdown pass in which he had time to set the table, cook dinner, eat dinner, and wash the plates before finding the open receiver:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Colts responded with a long drive of their own and tied the game on a 1-yard touchdown pass to Austin Collie. The Colts defense forced a 3-and-out and Peyton Manning took his team down the field once again capping the drive off with this 8-yard touchdown pass to Pierre Garcon:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The game went to halftime with the Colts up 14-7. The Colts took the opening drive of the second half and avoided disaster when Dallas Clark recovered a Joseph Addai fumble and converted a first down in Colts territory. This fumble, combined with Addai's total ineffectiveness throughout the first half, lead to Coach Brady moving Donald Brown up on the depth chart and minimizing Addai's carries. This decision lead to this 32-yard touchdown pass to Brown:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Colts added 10 more points in their dominating 31-7 victory. The Colts held a 34:44 to 13:16 advantage in time of possession over the Jaguars and a 403 to 186 advantage in total offense.

Peyton Manning finished the game 26-of-26 for 288 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions while David Garrard finished 14-of-21 for 159 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception.

Maurice Jones-Drew was held to 27 yards on 11 carries and 19 yards on 2 receptions. Joseph Addai was held to 12 yards on 10 carries and 37 yards on 3 receptions. Donald Brown had an impressive 107 yards on 18 carries and 59 yards on 2 receptions with 1 rushing and 1 receiving touchdown in the second half.

Dallas Clark had 8 receptions for 108 yards.

Raiders begin title defense with 41-6 drubbing of Chargers

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Rookie QB Dane Morrow hits 2nd year wideout Darrius Heyward-Bey for a 61 yard TD to put the game out of reach.

The Oakland Raiders leaned heavily on their running game and turnover differential in 2009 on the way to a Super Bowl championship.

In 2010, it looks like they will still rely on the turnovers, but 1st round rookie QB Dane Morrow looks like he'll be the chosen one to lead the Raiders to the promised land in 2010.

Morrow compiled a 140.0 QB rating in his first NFL start, completing 11 of 18 passes for 216 yards and 2 TD's, outplaying Pro Bowl counterpart Philip Rivers (17 for 31, 307 yards with no TD's and 3 INT's).

Early on, the contest was a dead heat. The Raiders took a narrow 3-0 lead after a big play action pass to fellow rookie TE Cameron Jackson, but San Diego marched right back down the field and had a 1st and goal from the 6. Oakland's defense stiffened, forcing a field goal attempt and a 3-all tie.

But it was still a close game. Morrow was able to lead Oakland on a methodical 8-play drive, culminating in a 19 yard TD pass to Zach Miller and a 10-3 lead with under a minute left before the half.

San Diego was able to hit a big play and close to the 35 yard line and attempt a 52 yard field goal as the first half expired...and that's when all hell broke loose.

Justin Miller returned the field goal, that was well short of its mark, 107 yards for a touchdown and a 17-3 halftime lead.

The opening possession of the second half saw Raiders SS Mike Mitchell intercept Philip Rivers and take it to the house. What was a 10-3 game about a minute before was suddenly a 24-3 game and it all went downhill from there.

Statistically, San Diego outplayed the Raiders, gaining 336 yards to 299, but trailed in the all-important turnover battle at -3 (3 giveaways, 0 takeaways). They also went 3-for-9 on third down as opposed to 6-for-10 for Oakland.

"When you play a good football team like the Raiders and turn it over, you will not stay in the contest for very long", Rivers was quoted as saying after the game. "We hung in there and stayed with them stride for stride. But I made a few mistakes and really let my team down today."

Oakland had hoped to get Darren McFadden rolling in the season opener, but he could muster just 71 yards on 21 attempts against a stout Chargers rushing defense.

LaDainian Tomlinson winds down his career with limited action--just 10 carries for 36 yards, and backup Darren Sproles saw even less (1 carry for -3 yards).

But there is reason for hope in sunny San Diego. WR Chris Chambers was explosive, hauling in 5 catches for 127 yards, and when defenses rolled his direction, Antonio Gates was able to convert several big plays, with 3 catches for 54 yards at critical points to give the Bolts hope.

The schedule makers saw fit to match the Chargers and Raiders up again in week 3, so there's just a game between matchups.

San Diego's hoping the rematch in Oakland is vastly different than this one.

Meh...I think he can do some damage, but it wasn't like I thoroughly dismantled Mac's Chargers. He converted a couple key third downs, moved the chains and hit big plays. Hell, he threw for over 300 yards. Statistically it was a close one.

But I think Morrow will certainly help. A rookie with 81 short and 84 deep accuracy really helps open up the offense. He's worlds better than JaMarcus or Garcia. He has some really nice touch on his passes that had me grinning from ear to ear on some plays.

I just wish we could export our teams to play with outside of official league games or something. It's tough to get a feel for guys when you're only going to play the 16 games with them.

I agree - one of my biggest grips is the inability to export franchise teams. At the very least we should have a practice mode within the franchise.

Anyone know how to improve awareness for online franchise players? 2nd yr RB Sean McCoy is still rated 48 overall awareness. I really expected him to make a jump given his productivity from last year. Shame there's no reward for working with your team.

Terry - you still owe me an offline game sometime. Can we do sometime this week? We also need some power rankings.

Nah, I'll make sure our game "counts", with the whole guarantee of victory and my asskicking and all of that. It will add more drama.

Been meaning to do the power rankings. Will probably do them after week 1 when we get an early feel for how teams will shake out.

You realize everything I posted was a joke designed to get you back in the league, right?

I have no chance of winning anything this year. Maybe you havent read the papers, but I traded my key guys and am in rebuilding mode. We're 3 or 4 years away now.

No kidding. I was going to do some offline practice against the Titans, but I realized it would be more accurate to practice against the Eagles since half of their players are in Nashville now. :D

BTW, since the patch fixed the FG holding bug, I'm assuming it's acceptable to accept penalties on field goals again?

And we're also still declining delay of games after a possession change, correct?

Well, I think you can still practice against the Titans. . .90% of our offense is still three plays:

Chris Johnson to the left. . .

Chris Johnson up the middle. . .

Chris Johnson to the right. . .

The only house rule I've been aware of was declining delay-of-game penalties on the first first down of a new possession. I was never aware of any holding penalty house rule.

Wow, adding McNabb and Westbrook to that offense... that's down right scarey.

If only LT's and Centers mattered as much in Madden as they do in the NFL.

That's why 90% of my offseason was spent on defense :D Between you and Chris Johnson and Scoop and Peyton Manning, I needed some serious help.

12 out of my 16 games, including my first 10, are against human opponents, interesting considering I didn't beat a carbon-based life form last season.

Todd, see you tonight at 10 Eastern.

Best defense against that Titans offense is to take CJ and KTFO.

That indeed was quite effective. . .that's pretty much why I traded to upgrade my QB situation and backup RB and WRs. . .so if he does get eviscerated again, that I've got something to fall back on. . .
