From the sounds of it they both made out as people are talking about them. Who even knew Joe Buck had a talk show? It surely would have been dumped after 4 episodes without this publicity.DookieMowf wrote:Yep! They knew what they were getting with Artie Lange.miget33 wrote:Feel no sympathy for Joe Buck, that segment was staged and he got the reaction and publicity he wanted.

I barely heard anyone mention the 'Favre Int', but there was lots of Artie talk. I think Mission Accomplished. I'm sure letterman is trying to get artie on to talk about it as we speak.
BTW, here's a great Bob Uecker story artie told on letterman.

Finally got to watch it. I don't know... I thought it was pretty awesome, but I love that uncomfortable stuff.
I even thought Buck played it cool for the most part. He def should have let him smoke & anyone who rips the Cowboys with Irvin in the room is cool with me...

Artie has a lot of demons in his life for sure. He's said that even with the success that's he's had....$1mil salary per year on the Stern show not to mention $75-$80K every weekend when doing standup...he said his greatest moment in life was the when the Yankees won the 1977 World Series and his dad threw him onto the field after the final out. He and his family didn't have much at all then and that was a defining moment in his life and he's been chasing that high ever since. The story of him and his dad and their love of sports makes him an easy guy to relate too for me. I recommend to anybody that's a fan to checkout his book...it's a great read.

I wasn't that familiar with Joe Buck, except his play by play. so I felt a little sorry for him when Artie was showing zero respect for the show's host. It seems like a lot of guys here already disliked Buck, so they were happy to see him suffer a little.macsomjrr wrote:I thought Lang was pretty funny so I guess I like uncomfortable humor like that. It was hilarious watching Buck squirm:)
I love Artie & Stern, but I think it's wrong to be invited as a guest on someone else's show and then proceed to trash it. How boring it may have been up to that point isn't relevant.

Dan and you STL guys:sportdan30 wrote:Jack, I agree with you. I don't know how anyone finds that remotely funny. Then again, if it was indeed all an act, then that's a different story.
Honest question: Would you feel any different if the object of Artie's scorn wasn't the son of the patron saint of St. Louis sports voices, Jack Buck?
Just curious.
Take care,

For a different side of Artie Lange, here's an Adam Carolla podcast:
http://www.adamcarolla.com/ACPBlog/2009 ... tie-lange/
Odd thing is, the podcast was for June 17 but on that site, he still has a beard whereas on the Buck show, he was clean-shaven.

Heard Artie on the Stern Show yesterday & it was pretty interesting. Artie said the show's producer told him to 'go crazy' whenever he felt it was getting too boring. After the show, Joe gave him a hug & said "thank you".
Artie was talking about how great it all went. Then stern starting reading Buck's comments to the media about 'needing a hook' & such, and Artie got really pissed with the Buck's "spin". Good times...

No, not at all. I'm sorry, but I just don't get the uncomfortable humor bit. Lets say for instance it wasn't planned. Then, I still feel like I did when I made my original post. Lange's a grade A ****. How anyone finds that funny is beyond me, but we're all different. We all have a right to our opinions.pk500 wrote:Dan and you STL guys:sportdan30 wrote:Jack, I agree with you. I don't know how anyone finds that remotely funny. I am however startimg to have my doubts about what took place. It appears to have been staged. If that's truly what happened, then I don't feel bad for Joe Buck at all. Screw him for trying to beef up his ratings. I don't have HBO, but if I did I still wouldn't watch his show. It was much too dry, but having Lange doing his schtick didn't do anything for me...staged or not.
Joe Buck has been out of the St. Louis sports scene for quite a while now. He makes an appearance or two on the local broadcast every now and then. But, I don't have that connection with him like I did with Jack Buck. I think Joe was at his best when he did Cardinals brodcasts on the radio. Still, he was never remotely close to being as strong a broadcaster as Jack. I'd much rather hear Bob Costas do the play by play for the playoffs and World Series.
So, to answer your question, it wouldn't have mattered who the host was. It could have been John Murphy of the Buffalo Bills and I still would have thought Artie Lange was unfunny and crude. I've seen a few other bits of Artie Lange and he's actually pretty funny when he's not trying to be an a**.

Correct...Carolla does a whole bunch per day and spreads them out.DookieMowf wrote:I don't think the podcasts are always up to date. IE, this might have been recorded over the weekend or late last week and they posted it for today.
I think sometimes they record more then one a day and just spread them out so they have one daily.

Cool. Appreciate the detailed analysis.
I agree with you: This entire thing was staged. Buck is a fine announcer, but he also seems to be the kind of superficial, self-centered ass who would sell himself out to get ratings.
After all, this is a sports show, yet it has three comedians as guests for its debut? Ho-kay ....
Take care,

Stern's point was why would have an old buddy of Buck's like Rudd, a guy who's friends with Rudd & went to the same High School (Sedakis), then plop Artie in the middle? It makes no sense other than the show wanted Artie on there to keep people from falling asleep. Again, Mission Accomplished...pk500 wrote:

Despite all this 'hoopla', turns out Irvin had the line of the night... "For once it's nice to see white on white crime."
And Teal, you really have no idea who Joe Buck is??? Really? Ever watch football or baseball?

Yeah, I watch some football and baseball, but not a whole lot. And even then, I'm a Braves guy-so Chip Carey? Yeah. Joe Buck? Not so much. Don't care who the announcer guys are, anyway...greggsand wrote:Stern's point was why would have an old buddy of Buck's like Rudd, a guy who's friends with Rudd & went to the same High School (Sedakis), then plop Artie in the middle? I really don't think it was "staged". If you watch Joe Buck's face when Artie unleashes his first verbal assault about Joe's "2nd favorite website being sucking c*ck.com", he looks really embarassed and seems to turn a little red in the face. Artie may have been asked to "go crazy" but I really don't think Joe knew what was coming. He had his young kids in the audience.pk500 wrote:Dan:
