Rex is worse than Lyons. And Lyons is terrible too! I haven't quite figured out why all of these clubs think it's a good idea to stick one of their former players in the booth after they retire. Mark Grace in Arizona isn't much better either. He's a good interview...but a bad analyst.

I'd have to go for Al McCoy for one of the best. Unfortunately, the worst list is much longer:

I have to echo the fact that Mark Grace is terrible, but he was even worse last year when he was paired with Thom Brennaman in Arizona. It seemed like they were drunk for each telecast. Greg Shulte isn't too bad on the radio for them though.

Jerry Coleman's calling ability at some point was rivaling that of Ralph Kiner. During the 80's, Kiner would slip into some stupor and announce that Babe Ruth or some other player that was no longer with us was stepping into the box.

I pity those of you too young to have missed hearing him at his best or even at all. From the late '70s until his stroke he was as good as anybody and even in his waning years he was still capable of greatness.

He's been caricatured for so long, sometimes at his own behest, that few people remember the things that really made him great: His total disregard for anything except the fans and his ability to turn 162 games every year into intimate affairs involving the club, Harry, his cast of friends and you.

He didn't give a damn about the players, the owners, management or anything else. He just told it like he saw it and never, ever pulled any punches. Political correctness meant nothing to him and he was beyond caring.

That's why his friends called him "Whiskers."

I agree with many already listed but thought I'd add a local guy in Pat Foley. I love listening to Pat Foley call a hockey game and I couldn't be happier that he's back doing it for the Hawks.

Both the radio voices of the Blue Jays since their inception in 1977. Nothing can compare to sitting outside on a hot summer day and listening to them call a Jays game. Only three months till pitchers and catchers report!!!!

Lon Simmons and Bill King.

You had to have Simmons' humor for all the dreadful Giants seasons.

King doesn't look like the type who's played sports at any level. But nobody was more verbally gifted at imparting what was happening on the court or the field better.

They did some local TV but they made their mark in radio. Some of King's play by play was in some of the NFL Films highlights of the Raiders' superbowls. I couldn't stand the Raiders nor followed the A's. But King was way better than what little I heard of Hearn.

These guys predated VC and 2K Sports, or else you might have heard them in 2K games instead of the arrogant Bob Fitzgerald.

Harry Kalas is getting old but he is still, by far, my favorite. Merrill Reese (Eagles radio) is still awesome. Over the past few years I have found an appreciation for Vin Scully also. I have XM radio and have listened to some Dodger games and Scully is a damn artist on the radio. His radio play by play is sick. Plus, he makes it sound so easy. The quote, "baseball is the only sport you can see on the radio", fits perfectly with Scully.

Guess you're not a Cards fan, to us, though, Jack was the voice of spring and summer. Not to mention his call of "go crazy, folks, go crazy" On Ozzie's 1985 playoff HR.....Can't believe I forgot Harry Caray though! I really enjoy broadcasters who are fans of the game like us...Marty Brennaman falls into that category, glad someone mentioned him....

Vin Scully...easily the best. Like poetry.

I used to like Keith Jackson when he was with Frank Broyles back in the day. Was a pretty entertaining combo.

Al Micheals is pretty good for a pompous ass. He does pull it off in a strange way. I think its the way, that when it really matters, he lets the event be the event.

I never heard Rex Hudler either until I played MLB 07 on the PS3. He sounds like a mix between Jim Rome and Danny Bonaduce.

Jack Buck (Still very much missed here in St. Louis....damn, he was good!)

Mike Shannon (not the best play by play, but one heck of a personality, and such fun to listen to. He's the only broadcaster who actually entertains me)

Gus Johnson (best NCAA basketball play by play man, but tends to get a little over excited sometimes)

Al Michaels

John McEnroe (not a play by play man per se, but very enjoyable to listen to)

Jim Nantz (Rock Chalk Championship.....hell yes!!!)
