HA...actually they are a little more forgiving on games then me. I gotta admit though...the Wii is a nice little system and they are playing games that are suitable for a 5 and 9 year old.ScoopBrady wrote:So they each got 5 minutes with it?tjung0831 wrote:Both of my kids are having a blast with it for sure.![]()

Bought it for my 4 and 5yr old, along with an extra wheel, but can't play it until my son's bday party on Saturday.
I told my wife I may have to break it open tonight now that they're in bed and then re-wrap it. lol
I'll post my Wii code when I have it.

You guys are making it difficult to pass on this game.
I've read that "snaking" isn't as useful in the game as it's a bit slow to implement.
Can someone tell me what the blue shells advantages are? It seems others are complaining that there are too many in the game.
Is the IGN review accurate in that the mid-level 150cc races are frustrating because the CPU is very unforgiving?

I played the game for about an hour yesterday with a friend. As far as I can tell the Blue shell just goes after whoever is in first place. Right before it gets you it lifts up into the air and does a mini dive bomb right on top of you. I think the explosion can also hurt others who are within its proximity.sportdan30 wrote:You guys are making it difficult to pass on this game.

See the GTAIV thread.Spooky wrote:What's "snaking"?

I'm not 100% sure but I think it's a technique where you pretty much powerslide through the whole race and you build up wicked speed.
Gamefly has this not shipping until tomorrow. Hopefully mine will ship tomorrow and I'll have it by the weekend.

If I understand correctly, powersliding in Mario Kart Wii does not use the 'waggle' system of the previous versions.
Under the waggle system, you rock left and right 3 times and it produces a nitro-like effect. People would then 'snake' by powersliding back and forth diagonally down a straightaway just long enough to get the boost, then powerslide the other direction
In Mario Kart Wii, no singular boost is achieved by sliding but rather the longer the slide the more speed you build (like the original SNES version). Therefore doing a bunch of quick slides back and forth across a straightaway won't give you continuous boosts like it did Mario Kart DS.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about sliding in Mario Kart Wii.

Thanks for the explanation guys! yes, the Wii version works as described above so it sounds like they were trying to eliminate the 'snaking'.Naples39 wrote:If I understand correctly, powersliding in Mario Kart Wii does not use the 'waggle' system of the previous versions.

Okay...this game officially rules! N64 Kart was probably my all time favorite 'party' game as I had two friends that used to play it with me almost nightly for hours and hours. So I am a bit of a Kart 'Cono Sur' and this version is pretty damn good. The online works extremely well with the only disappointments being the lack of option to change 'cc' levels (looks to default to 100cc but I want 150cc) and the lack of full text chat (I don't mind the lack of voice chat but it would be nice to be able to type in a few personal lines in between rounds).

Definitely seems harder to me. Even some of the 50cc games are challenging. The only problem I'm having right now is that my son is completely frustrated with the game. He's 6 and he gets upset if he can't figure out the controls right away. I'm going to keep it because I know he'll grow in to it eventually.Rodster wrote:Does game seem harder to you guys cause if it doesn't I truly suck? I'm not complaining because it will add to the longevity of the game.
Right now, I think I prefer the wiimote and nunchuck. It's very responsive. The Wii wheel works ok, but it's hard to control when you have to make quick turns.
Got a question. I haven't read the manual obviously. But how do you drift in the way you're able to gain boost? I've been drifting or so I think, but I'm not going any faster.
By the way, online is silky smooth! Very impressed with the game. I'd love to add all of you guys. Heck, I'll even race your sons and daughters!
Hell, I still suck at the DS version.Rodster wrote:Does game seem harder to you guys cause if it doesn't I truly suck? I've played Mario Kart on the GBA and DS but this game on the Wii seems to have more traps and the AI seems to be a lot more aggressive.

First, drifting has to be set to manual. In automatic you cannot gain boost from a drift. In manual, hold down the brake while turning. You will see sparks that turn into blue flame if held long enough. Release the brake and you will boost. You can also hold the turn even longer and the blue flame will turn red enabling an even longer boost.sportdan30 wrote:Got a question. I haven't read the manual obviously. The automatic/manual stuff is my only real gripe with the game. I'm convinced that its faster to use automatic instead of manual unless you are really, really skilled at holding drifts. I mean really skilled. I'm pretty decent at drifting and boosting yet my times in the time trials are a good 2-3 seconds better when using automatic. It really sucks some of the fun and takes the skill out of the game when you eliminate the drifting mechanic. I'm all for putting the automatic drift into the game for younger players, but when its the fastest way around the track it tips the balance of the game and dumbs it down considerably.

I'd like to know this as well. My daughter is 5 and was getting frustrated too. Not enough to quit playing but enough to where she wanted me to help and my arms were ready to fall off after completing one cup. I didn't know you could use the nunchuk too so maybe I'll try that.sportdan30 wrote:The only problem I'm having right now is that my son is completely frustrated with the game. Outside of that I haven't had much time with it but it was a lot of fun.
