Speaking of rookies if some of the veterans don't get better soon with their groin problems 'Nucks may start their season with five rookies easily. The only guys that are ready for the big jump are N. McIver, and M. Raymond.

Good look at issues entering this season from ESPN.com's Scott Burnside:

The Rangers and Isles had a fight night last night, with goalies DiPietro and Montoya squaring up:

http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/h ... ght_night/

Everything was precipitated by Ryan Hollweg and Chris Simon being on the ice together for the first time since Simon was suspended last season for hitting Hollweg with his stick.

Simon's suspension extends into the start of this regular season, but he's allowed to play preseason games. Odd.

Take care,
PK

John Tavares is ripping it up again in juniors:

http://www.globesports.com/servlet/stor ... ttavares24

Will the NHL let Tavares be eligible for the 2008 Draft? He turns 18 about a week or so after the age cutoff date.

Tavares will be a gem, whichever year he becomes eligible.

Rookie C. Price is still among the uncuts for the Habs, he may just back up C. Huet.

Price was a stud in goal for Canada at the last World Juniors' Tournament, correct?

Got an email today with the latest offerings from the NHL catalog and damn this would be so cool to have as a centerpiece during the playoffs:

Well, a few friends and myself are making the trip across the river Saturday to take in the Red Wings and Maple Leafs. BTW $40USD is a pretty crappy price to pay for upper bowl hockey tickets, exhibition at that.

We've decided to commemorate this event by painting our chests with 'B', 'E', 'L' 'A', 'K', and '#3'. This guy is honestly one of the funniest guys in the NHL. If you don't believe me, YouTube "wade a minute" and watch LeafsTV at its finest. I already know we'll look like losers, especially for having Belak of all players, but I guess you only live once or something.

What makes it better is that my friend e-mailed Belak and within a day he responded by saying that he's really excited that we're doing it and he hopes that he's actually playing. Us too.

Season hasn't even started yet and there's a lot of talk about revenge already from OTT ( at least from their tough guy McGrattan) against the Flyers as prospect S. Downie absolutely cheap shot veteran D. McAmmond by lifting his feet and elbows in an exhibition game. Earlier in the game Meszaros lifted Upshaw in the air and that also looked iffy.

M. Havlat the latest casualty with a groin injury in CHI.

I feel for McAmmond. Not long ago he suffered a concussion at the hand of C. Pronger during the SC finals. Hope he gets better soon.

Anyone who's followed his junior career already knows this, but Steve Downie is a total lunatic. People always say he's the player everyone hates unless he's on your team, but I'm not sure how I feel about him.

On the one hand he could be exactly what the Flyers need, after last year's team was leader-less and played with no emotion, but other hand, he's just plain dirty. First, there was this fight, in which he delivers a great KO punch to a player about 4 inches taller, but Downie fought him with his face shield on. That's not right. Then, you have the McAmmond hit. Clearly dirty, and it's practical comical the way he goes flying through the air to devastate McAmmond. Steve is crossing the fine line here.

Jayzus, Naples, just watched the video of the hit on McAmmond. That was BRUTAL. Downie didn't just leave his feet -- he was parallel to the ice like an Exocet missile when he hit McAmmond.

Downie may not live past Nov. 24 if he stays with Philly. McGrattan may kill him on the ice.

Thanks for the links.

Am I going to hell for actually pumping my fist when I heard that news on my way in to work this morning? If God is a Hawks fan I'm not worried.

Because he's got skill to go with his lunacy. If I recall correctly, he played on the first line for Canada's last WJ team and was a captain.

Buccigross' NHL column is back. The best read at ESPN.com, BY A F*CKING MILE. Bucci is cool, too. He has responded quickly to a few e-mails I sent him:
