Microsoft extends RROD Warranty to 3 years !

What does this mean for those of us who paid for the extended MS warranty?? Frankly, they should refund our money.
Why? Because I would never have purchased an extended warranty on a product that comes with a 3 year warranty in the first place. Who in their right mind would pay for a warranty to cover a 4th year when the warranty itself costs 1/6 the price of the product??
But whatever. I just hope my current refurb makes it through the next few months as the gaming 'season' gets started with NCAA and keeps going strong through Christmas.

Yeah, that's a good point. Not all DVD drives last forever, although the DVD drives in the 360 seem to be more reliable than the shitty ones that MS put in the original Xbox for the first couple of years.
I foolishly bought a 2nd hand Xbox with a Thompson drive in June 2004, and it only lasted just over a year before it stopped reading DVDs altogether. Now it just sits on a box in my bedroom, although it does still read CDs.

If your interested I have a brand new Samsung drive I purchased as a spare for my original Xbox. I didn't even open the box. If your interested let me know i'll sell it for what I paid.Feanor wrote:Yeah, that's a good point. LOL, exactly. If something else breaks, than I'll be turning my 360 on and covering up all the vents until I get those 3 rings.Leebo33 wrote:Do drive problems also cause the RROD to appear? On my second unit the disk drive made a horrible noise, wouldn't open, and then after a few attempts recycling the power the red lights appeared.
When my next 360 goes I can guarantee the red lights will appear somehow
Yippee! I joined the club today! I just hope I get it back fairly soon after NCAA Football comes out.

I just got mine back -- I'll have to see if they charged me for the repairs.
I think the increased competition forced them to keep frustrated customers from dropping the 360 for a Wii or PS3. I am with Rob -- the 360 has by far more of the games I want to play now and this fall, so I'm glad MS is taking this step.

If this is true I am trading in my premium for and Elite. I seriously haven't read a single person having an issue with the Elite. Plus HDMI will be nice, I just don't enjoy the thought of having no way to get my stuff of my current HD to the Elite.

You can buy the transfer kit which allows one transfer from your 360 to your Elite. I think the price is $9.99Danimal wrote:If this is true I am trading in my premium for and Elite. Wait for the system upgrade. There are plenty of stories about the same problems with the elite. RROD, disc scratching, bad drives, etc. A google for it reveals fairly easy to find results.Danimal wrote:If this is true I am trading in my premium for and Elite. With the Falcon chipset, MS hopes that the overheating problem maybe a thing of the past.

Nice tip to see if your 360 has the latest heat sink, or if you should be prepared for the inevitable...
