Need a game to play on the PS3?
If you get the 360 version you can play in Zepps league.
At this point it's the lack of enough leagues and options on the 360 that makes me shift my attention to the PS2 version. I played the PAL version of the 360 already and other than the solid gameplay, I don't think it warrants the $60 bucks. But then again if there's enough interest among DSP'ers on the 360 version and impressions are positive I might just change my mind.
It baffles me that no gaming journalist has been able to get an answer from Konami as to why so many features were chopped from the 360 version. Not being able to save replays or change team names is ridiculous. I've seen in-depth interviews with plenty of other Japanese developers, so it's not impossible.
I will be getting this game to satisfy my footy fix until the fall and probably play in Zep's league, but Konami is on very thin ice with me. If FIFA 08 for 360 gets favorable reviews, I'll definitely give it a shot, and it will be my first FIFA since 02 I think.
Thin ice is putting it mildly. Once again, we have to wait six months for it to get released in the States for no apparent reason other than some marketing genius at Konami wants to time the release around the start of the MLS season. Six months and they couldn't be bothered to add in a basic team name editor. Oh the horror of playing as "Merseyside Red" and not a damned thing anyone can do about it.
I've played the demo some more and have gotten increasingly miffed. It has just about the worst collision detection I've ever seen in a sports game. I just love how the CPU wins most balls in the air by sticking its head through your player's chest. Nice.
I will still pick it up just because it's WE. But the franchise's downward spiral is alarming. It will be interesting to see how WE11/11 for next gen is handled in Japan. Seabass better step up in a big way.
I have to give credit to EA for trying to improve FIFA. It still has a long way to go but is definitely on the right track. If Konami continues to rest on its laurels it won't be long before we have a new sheriff in town.
It's disappointing that Konami couldn't beef up the presentation aspect of the game for the 360. This could have been the Holy Grail of sports games. The good news is that the gameplay sounds unchanged, so what we get is a WE 360 game that looks slighlty better than the XBox one.
Will that be worth $60 to most people????
Ah, the beauty of "next gen" rears its head again.
Screw this, I'm not paying extra for a stripped-down product. It is inexcusable for a game with so many 'fake' team names to ship without any real editor.
I am really jonesing for a soccer game, too. Maybe I'll go find a copy of WE9 for XBox and just edit that one.
This past year was the first that I used a patch, so I have no problem playing with the fake names as long as the gameplay is solid. And all due respect to the tweens at IGN, I'll decide on that for myself

I have played the last two WE's without a roster edit as well so the names and team names are not that big of a deal to me either. But I am not a soccer fanatic like some but enjoy the solid gameplay of WE. But even though I have not used the editor in the past I still feel a little ripped off that I do not have that functionality available to me if I wanted to do so.
I see that the price is still at $49.99 so that helps a little I guess. And how hard is it to code the ability to edit names? You would think they could of atleast given you that option.

Since I've gotta pick up a PS2 for MLB in a few weeks, I'm just gonna get the PS2 version. I've already got the prettier version on the PC...but for some reason the control on the PC has never been quite as good as the PS2 versions. Must have something to do with the USB drivers not being as precise (with the PS2 or the logitech pad).
Well if you compare it to fifa on 360 which is also stripped down, it once again is years ahead of its competition.
There may be some clipping (i haven't noticed it) but at least you can head the ball when you want.
Fifa is not even close in gameplay you guys are on digital crack.
I think i know why some of you like fifa. Just as AYSO are trying to ban headers or make your kids wear head gear to do so the lack of a decent header in fifa gets a bye.
A huge part of footy absolutely bodged by Fifa 07
As far as the lack of licence, cant you just play one of the leagues which is , like the Italian teams.
While i agree with the lack of features in next gen is disgusting and the game developers secrecy surrounding these titles is making me more infuriated.
A good example was in the vid posted were the guy cant say if the game is coming out on PS3 or not. Are they frightened we wont buy the game and wait, what ?
Damn ive gone sideways here i know but this next gen thing is dealing a death blow for gaming to me , i hardly play anything anymore its all the same old shite "tastes great but less filling"
When i do pick up a controller next it will be to play Winning Eleven last years or the new one its still better than anything else for me.
You guys are honestly surprised that a Konami game is lacking in the features department? It's the same story every year, what's new? OK so the 360 version is more stripped down than the PS2 version, but is the gameplay good? To me that's what matters. Personally, I can mentally translate 'Merseyside Red' into 'Liverpool' and it doesn't hurt my brain to do so. Player-name edits don't hold for online play anyway. Uniform mods are cute, and replays are fun to show off to your friends, but to me it's all about the gameplay. I play games for the gameplay, not for the fashion show or to show off replays to my friends.
I can't argue that Konami aren't certifiably insnane, I mean, I've known that for years, at least from the first time they didn't release WE in North America. The whole idea of a February release date should be enough to send the whole crew to the loony bin. But, I guess I'm just thankful that they deign to bestow upon us any 360 version of the game at all. Beggars can't be choosers, you know. How long was it before an Xbox version showed up? How many years without WE in NA at all? Yes, I'll be pissed if the lagginess online isn't gone on the 360 version, and yes I am disappointed that PS2 will have multi-console multiplayer (at least I think I read that somewhere), but I'm still looking forward to the solid gameplay of the 360 version.
And by the way, Jack, if you are paying $60 for this game, then shame on whoever is selling it to you.
If you playing mainly online, the lack of editing is not a big deal. However, I love playing the ML and for that a good option file is a must. For that reason I will be buying the PS2 version--and becasue I don't own a 360.
I am curious to see how WE plays out on the next-gen systems. It has always been a "sony" game and I wonder if that will continue. Any word on a PS3 release date?

I've always found the ML as the thing to do with lack of editing, because after a few seasons, the real teams are barely recognizable anyway.
I play tons of ML. I've only rarely had access to an option file, due to not having a PC to run the transfer software, and when I did get option files mailed, I was always very wary of files that edited player attributes. Edited kits and team names and such are nice, but for me they are far from 'a must.' It's not like there's anything realistic about the ML anyway.
This from the IGN review pretty much sums up what I am hoping for (I won't link to it, as we already have two such links in this thread ):
Another Take
from Craig Beridon
I’m disappointed in Winning Eleven Pro Evo 2007.
I also love and can’t stop playing Winning Eleven Pro Evo 2007. A catch-22, I know.
The venerable foot-y franchise has always proved that above all else; gameplay makes a sports videogame. It doesn’t matter is you have 75 league licenses, authentic stadiums, and a bangin’ indie rock soundtrack; it all boils down to how much fun the games are, period. . . . More could have been done to freshen up the game's presentation and atmosphere which have always been its Achilles heel. The fact of the matter is though, that this is still a fantastic soccer videogame, and an incredibly authentic representation of the sport. It has the same brilliant AI, stellar and minimalist commentary, and that “anything-can-happen” x-factor that very few sports games posses. Ask fans of the series why they love it so much and they’ll say it’s because you can play 1,000 matches and still see things happen on the pitch you never did before. It maintains everything that made the previous installments in the franchise great, but doesn’t improve on it in any way. It’s a disappointing approach Konami took for WE 2007’s next-gen debut, but disappointment has never been so much fun.
I don't care about the accuracy of the team rosters for the ML, I just like to have the correct names of the players I am buying and playing against and I don't want to spend the time myself on putting them all in.
Zepp, I agree with you on the attributes tweaking. I don't like anybody messing with those. I just want the names, the duplicate players to be eliminated, and the kit updates are a nice bonus.
Anyone been able to find a copy anywhere? I had it preordered from Amazon and found out it slipped until Feb. 14 from them. EB shows no stock at any store within 100 miles.
Jack, it's $49.95, which takes some of the sting out of the missing features.

My Local EB just called to say they have it in stock.
Ok...played a couple of games so far. Combined with the demo, I think I have a pretty good feel for this game...although things will obviously change the more time I spend with it.
Just as everybody says, this does NOT feel like a next-gen title. Sure, the widescreen support and resolution are great, but the game (like every other WE game in the past) lacks that visual punch that we've been dying to see.
Improvements- Stadiums have fans in them this time around. At least it doesn't feel like I'm playing in front of just friends and family anymore.
Player faces are quite good I thought- You can identify most guys from a good distance away. However, uniforms and such look very last-gen. No movement- just a pasted on jersey, etc...like always.
Gameplay- I really feel like the game has improved just like it always does in this department. It's not a drastic shift, but the ball physics just seem even more spot on. You'll see some more realistic spins and bounces this time around.
Player movements are slightly improved- you will see guys protect the ball a lot more and make some more complex movements overall. Where this really is apparent is with stars like Ronaldinho. The skill difference is very noticeable between someone like himself and an average defender.
Overall, I'd say I am enjoying this game more than any WE in the past, but the lack of next-gen features/look is a letdown of course. Will I let that ruin my experience? Not likely. There doesn't seem to be many problems with this game- Only thing that perhaps is an issue is some questionable decision making by CPU defenders in their own box. I don't want to overreact on that point just yet though.
I'd say if you've always loved the gameplay in WE, you'd be happy with the 360 version and the crispness it adds when playing on an HD set. However, if you're not playing high def and really need to play with liscenced teams all around, I can't see the ps2 version being THAT much different.
