The Blues have some money to spend and with JD on the way, I think they'll make a lot of noises this offseason. D. Weight will probably return and B. Shanahan wouldn't look too bad in a blue uniform either.

Becoming a fan fave doesn't mean much in today's sports as we know. It's a business first and foremost and actually I doubt CAR will keep much of its core intact. All owners and GM's are getting ready for Saturday's draft and with the new CBA numbers, they'll be definitely weighing their options.

CRL is different....there are 3 college teams here, within 10 miles, that draw even better than proteams...they have to cater to the fans even more than other teams... the fans just don't come out...if this team is broken up and they don't come out strong (hell...they did this season and didn't really draw well) they will be in trouble...

Well, for the sake of Raleigh fans and the US audience in general let's hope that this season is just an appetizer of what it is to come. CAR had the best home record during the regular season and they were 21st in attendance overall, will the Cup bring the masses out. Let's hope so.

The NHL Board of Govenors unanimously approved the sale of the Blues to former MSG executive Dave Checketts today. The official announcement will be made in the coming days, if we are lucky maybe before Saturday.

Edit - Well after reading this it looks like it won't be officially announced until next week. All in all in shouldn't affect our draft or any trades that might be made. I would be more thrilled though if Mark Sauer would have been gone before the draft on Saturday. Also another rumor that was floating around was former NHL'er Adam Graves possibly being named the Blues new GM....not sure how I would feel about that.

He's going to be the new President replacing the very much hated Mark Sauer. The rumor is that JD has been offered and accepted a deal that will pay him $10 mil over 5 years. They are probably bringing in a new GM, but will probably keep current GM Larry Pleau and give him another role in the organization.

Eager to watch the Awards Show tonight. My picks for the major awards:

Hart: Thornton
Norris: Niedermayer
Calder: Ovechkin
Selke: Brind'Amour
Vezina: Kiprusoff
Adams: Laviolette

I would love to see the Oil's Rem Murray win the Masterton Award. The guy eschewed insurance money just for a chance to return to the NHL this year and needed regular Botox shots in his neck just to keep his chin elevated due to a nerve disorder in his neck. That's dedication and perseverance to hockey personified.

Take care,
PK

I agree with your picks pk, except coach of the year which I think L. Ruff should get.

Brind'Amour had an oustanding year, led all players in faceoffs and forwards for most ice time, The Kipper is a shoe in and what a rookie year Ovechkin had. Anyone remembers the goal he scored from his back?

Thornton just changed the fate of Sharks in an instant, he was the reason my Canucks didn't make the playoffs during the back to back games in the final week of the season  and he made J. Cheechoo a top scorer aahead of J. Jagr.

Finalizing its deal with Walt Disney Anaheim is no longer Mighty and just Ducks. They revealed their new unis, which looks pretty dull IMO.

Those unis are awful. Look like something out of a bad high school production of "Godspell."

Hockey sweaters need crests -- end of story. The only exception is the Rangers, and I'll give them a pass because they're a member of the Original 6.

Yeah, with a name like "Ducks" don't you almost have to go with a more friendly, family-oriented, brightly-colored, cartoony look that they had been going with?

All that black seems out of place. It's hard to associate "ducks" with anything intimidating or bad-@ss. It's an odd direction to go in. Kinda like if the Raiders wore purple and pink.

But what do I know? It'll probably be the hottest-selling jersey next season.

So they focused on a duck foot and turned it into a D? Are they trying to lead the league in uniforms worn?

Those jersey's are much better than the old ones. That old color scheme and that deranged Donald duck logo had to go. No NHL player should have to wear a jersey with an official color of Eggplant in it.
Now if we can just get word on the Capitals and Sabres new jerseys. Hopefully maybe we'll see them at the draft tomorrow.

Third jerseys are beyond gay. Just excuses to make licensing money. Of course, I'm jaded because I DESPISE the Oilers' third jersey.

Honestly, the only third jersey that looks better than any team's home or away jersey is the Rangers' third sweater. That crest featuring the "NYR" and the head of the Statue of Liberty is awesome and should be the Rangers' regular crest.

PK

Interesting that Thornton won the Hart but Jagr won the Pearson.

Who's smarter -- the writers or the players? I have to side with the writers on this one.
