Theo, have you tried taking the game back yet and exchanging it?

Why in the world would you continue to try and play it if it keeps locking up?

That makes no sense.

It's the best baseball game ever released for the 360!
It's the worst baseball game ever released for the 360!

I have had freezing trouble in 360 2K games - both in NBA and College Hoops. Considering that I played about 6 other games - including 35+ hours in Oblivion -without a freeze, I sense a pattern. I ended up selling College Hoops because the patch broke my game and I ran out of patience. I sold it on half.com and promptly got Top Spin 2 - which thankfully has not frozen yet.

Being a slut for sports games, I picked this one up a little while ago. I will post some impressions later after I get home and play a few games.

Well, I had NBA 2K6 freeze up on me regularly. I exchanged it for another copy and it still froze up, although not as often. I guess I will take it back, but I doubt it will be any better. There are people that say boiling the disc will cure any lock up problems. Any truth to that, or is it a myth?

It's a myth. It worked in the past for some old Xbox demo discs but that was for a specific reason pertaining to those discs only. Boiling discs can damage your game.

Its strange how much more favorable the OS impressions are for the 360 version as compared to the PS2/XBox versions. Do the nicer graphics sway everyone's opinion that much? Some folks that have played the old xbox versions also say that the gameplay is exactly the same, but if you read both impression threads, you would think they are 2 different games they are talking about. Very puzzling indeed.

It's the same game. I'm disappointed. It is prettier...and of course that will sway some people. I'm REALLY going to try to figure out how to like this game.

It's funny how much more forgiving people are because it is a 360 game, as opposed to a original xbox game. I dont think the game is that bad. It does certain things really well. I haven't seen all the horrible AI gaffs that others here have reported. I think it's a fun game, if you take it for what it is.

One thing I'm noticing is that some of the AI stuff has been corrected. It's still not a better game than The Show or even MVP 05, but it is serviceable. Obviously with some sliders it could be improved even more and we might even have a decent 360 game on our hands.

The one cool thing I noticed that they included is that when there is a foul ball, the fans fight for it. Never seen that in a game before. It seems like the fans are all 3d models which is pretty good looking.

Perhaps I'm crazy, but I'm digging it so far. It's no masterpiece, and it isn't MVP, but 2k6 has a realism that I can get into. The graphics and animations are piss poor for a 360 game, and the overall package just feels a bit rushed and sloppy; underneath all of that, however, appears to lie the heart of a game with some unique touches.

I like the pitching system, as well as the trigger batting. I like the overall presentation (though the transitions aren't smooth). I like the variety of hits and the in-flight ball physics, though I question the ball physics on the ground. I've had very realistic numbers through 2 games, and enjoyed the tension of pitching in both...

One cool thing that happened so far is that in my second game I beaned the clean-up batter (unintentionally, but throwing way inside); Manny comes up for the Sox to start the next inning and they instantly put a fastball in his hip. The UMP warns both teams and the commentators mention that it was intentional and that things could turn ugly. Later, they bean Manny AGAIN and the pitcher is ejected - no option for me to rush the mound though...

I'd give it a C+; playable, enjoyable, but not what any of us would've been hoping for to kick off baseball on the 360.

If this is next generation baseball or indicative of what we have to look forward to during the exclusive rights period, we are in for a LONG 5-7 years. I think I can tinker with this to make it an average baseball game, but that's about it. The animations are horrible, the gameplay is sluggish, and the graphics are the worst I've seen on the 360 by far. This is a horrible day for Xbox360 owners IMO.

I played this game for 20 minutes and I've already decided to buy a PS3 for the MLB series.

If this were any other sport but baseball, I could tough it out. As it stands, though...

I am with you. I am so glad I didn't grab a 360. Baseball gaming is a passion for me. I can't wait 7 years for the next MVP. Looks like I am getting PS3 and "The Show" next year.

Agree with much of what has been said here.

The best comparison I can think of is Madden 360. Like Madden, some are going to be intrigued by certain gameplay developments, while others who are looking for a complete game are going to be turned off by the rushed and sloppy feel.

I know some of us have said this before, but it's a shame how Kush broke the stellar engine of 2K4, and here we are two years later on a next-gen console with an inferior product. Simply inexcusable.

Even with the 360's power, the graphics aren't a slam dunk. Other than certain stadium details and cool lighting, I actually prefer much of The Show's overall look to this game. How is that even possible?

I completely 100% agree. This game is pure cr*p. It's going back, back, back, to the STORE. I absolutely feel robbed that I spent more than $20 on this game.

Lets see. Where do we start?

Does every game start with the dad with his arm around his son.....however, they're both statues and the dad's arm isn't even touching his son's shoulder. Petty nitpick I know, but it stood out.

I played my first game in the new Busch. What a f'n joke. The flags off in the distant do not move. It's as if they're painted on the screen. This is next gen???? The Arch for whatever reason is on the right side when you're looking out from home plate, whereas it should be on the left side of center. Wrigley Field is not much prettier. I don't know what it is, but the stadiums look dumbed down from what I saw in the screen shots.

The graphics are almost too colorful, too cartoony for my liking. Since when did the Cardinals helmets change their color to maroon? Do they also have maroon long sleeves? Blech!

The player models are just ok. Definitely not a huge step up from the Xbox version of MVP. The only thing that moves on the jersey is right above the stomach and it rolls awkwardly. Personally, I liked the player models in The Show much better.

Some of the animations are decent (i.e. on the double plays), and some are downright pathetic. They still haven't fixed the animation where the second baseman is looking towards home and throws it to first. C'mon Kush! Many of the players still seem to throw the ball side armed. Why? Was one of the developers a side arm pitcher?!?!?! You just don't get the sense you're watching real major leaguers throwing the ball.

Batting animations are better than year's past. At least it seems the bats have a weighty feeling to them.

The ball physics in my estimation is still very very poor. They bounce too high and still have a floaty feeling to them.

I can't even explain fielding. It's such a detachment from MVP '05, and dare I say even MLB The Show? It's quite unimmersive.

And worst of all......Two consecutive freezes. And here I stated I've never had a 2K sports game freeze on me. The first time it froze was during the Trivia question. The second time was during a cut scene. After the second freeze, I said good f'n riddance.

p.s. I'm so glad I took out the $3 warranty from Game Stop on the game. Gonna exchange my copy and then return it to Wal-Mart.

For those of you who are enjoying it, I'm honestly happy for you. It just goes to show that we all see games differently.

My rant is over.

The good news is that I haven't seen any major CPU AI problems so far. I had one "iffy" intentional walk, but other than that it's been pretty good. I guess it would be considered AI, but it's really annoying how many extra needless throws the CPU makes. It's almost like they never programmed running the ball in. I popped up just outside the first base line with a guy at second and the first baseman fires it to third when my runner was standing on the 2nd base bag. It seems like I'm nitpicking and it doesn't affect gameplay much, but it just proves that these guys just aren't paying attention to detail. Why do most lineups look strange? Joe Randa leading off for the Pirates? Rowand batting cleanup for the Phillies? Why does an errant throw from second to short on a should-be double play ball in the 7th inning of a 5-5 game not get a reaction from the crowd? Why does Mo Vaughn look about 50 pounds lighter than he should? If you want the MLB license then freakin' make it seem like an MLB game.

Why on Earth do they even HAVE Mo Vaughn in the game. He's been retired for two years already. Now, if you said David Ortiz...I can understand that. He's way too skinny as well.

You can believe it. I'm on my 2nd copy and I haven't gotten through a game yet. After about 5 freezes with my first copy, I decided to try it on my other 360. It was even worse...3 freezes in less than 10 minutes.

So I took it back and exchanged it. Second copy...felt good for about 4 innings...then it froze up. Tried again and it froze in the first inning. Then I saw something at OS about deleting your VIP profile had stopped the freezing for some. Deleted my VIP and started a game...froze in the second inning. I don't know what to do...I can't just keep going back to EB and swapping it.

The bad thing is, even though it doesn't really stack up to The Show, I actually like the game and would love to have a working copy...the game looks like it could really be fun.

If anyone sees any kind of fix for the freezing on another site, please post it here.

Thanks

Badgun,

I've read where reformatting your hard drive does the trick. However, that also deletes everything you have on your hard drive.

When you exchanged your copy, were you given a brand new wrapped game?

Here's how bad this game looks: The MLB2K3 (or whatever it was called that year) game done three years ago by Blue Shift looked better in 720p mode than this game does. Unbelievable.

Reformatting is not an option for me. I've got too much stuff on there that I'm not about to part with. Game saves, themes, gamer pics, about 8 arcade games. It's just not worth all that hassle for one game. Everything else I have plays fine. And yes, I got another sealed copy when I went back.

I don't see where the complaints are with the graphics. I think it looks WAY better than the Xbox version. Guess I'm blind. The player models seem to be a little better as well. Whatever.
