So far I really like it. It has a pretty deep and fun career mode, as you build up your skier. On the sim mode, you can only get so many development points so you have to decide on which discipline's you want to concentrate on. Right now I am running building a classic Downhiller/Super G specialist. He's ok in the GS and sucks ball in the Slalom.

Graphics are good but not great. The MoCap on the skiers in the different events is well done and believable. The courses are varied as are the snow and weather conditions. All well done imo. Presentation is good but not great. I like the Auto Replays at the end of your run, but there is no manual replay which I would have liked.

Controls are a bit twitchy which took a lot of getting used to, that's one of my biggest complaints. I am better at it now, but they are still way too sensitive imo. Camera Angle is a little too low at times making it tough to see where the next gates are.

This game is all about course management and making smooth turns and transitions. You really need to set yourself up for your next turn especially on the technical courses. That I really like, I really get the feeling of preparing for a ski race, and every course is different, and every course runs differently depending on Snow/Weather conditions. Another thing I like is you really get the sense of speed in this game. When you are bombing a downhill run at 80 mph, you really feel like you are on the edge of being out of control.

I like the game, fun career mode, well done on the hill also. Biggest complaints are the twitchy controls and the camera angle being a bit too low on certain courses.

I love this game. I have the PC version and was able to adjust the sensitivity of my Logitech controller to combat some of the twitchiness, but once you get used to making smaller movements, it's not so bad. It adds to the difficulty factor, which is a good thing.

Question.........what does the "cant" button do? Is it for making sharp turns? Also, does more wax make you go faster or slower. Some courses I might actually want to go slower for more control.

great game! too bad they didnt make a xbox or 360 version.

Nice mention, guys!

Bode was nowhere on my radar at all, but due to the talk here I picked it up for the ps2 when I saw it at best buy yesterday. I figured it was worth a shot for the price (and I had a coupon.)

So far I like it quite a bit, though I don't know how deep of a title it is. I jumped right in with quickstart as Bode, and promptly crashed or DNFed about a half dozen times, just like the coverboy. The controls are indeed sensitive, but I like that, as I think that calls for the precision needed in these events.

Anyway, I then made up a 'starting' skiier to use in career mode, and because he sucked, he was not nearly as twitchy down the mountain, and also not nearly as fast.

I can easily see myself popping this in from time to time for a few shots at besting the course times. It's got a good "one more shot" bite to it.

I also agree that it's a shame it's not on Xbox or 360. LIVE leaderboards would give everyone a nice set of target times. Oh well.

Really digging Ski Racing 2006.

I started a World Cup season, and went ahead and posted my progress in the Dynasty Section over at OS:

You like SR2006 better than Bode's game? I have both for the PC and like Bode's better, but they are both good games. Once you get use to the sensitive controls it really is a lot of fun.

Anyone still playing Bode?

I'm still really enjoying this game, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in an honor system league kind of deal, where we run through seasons and events and post our scores. If so, let me know and I'll set it up.

Also, for those of you who were frustrated by the twitchy controls, try first person view. Not nearly as twitchy.

Hey Web.......I'll run thru a season with you and we can compare scores.

question......with the "jump" button, are you supposed to jump as far as you can? this is weird cause normally you want to supress your jump.
just wondering if you figured out the best way to use the "jump" button.

Cool, Jack. Know anyone else that might be interested? I figure maybe even four guys would be enough to do this.

I use the jump very rarely, but it does help in some courses where you can land on the downslope of a rise if you jump properly. (One downhill course in particular I found it useful, I can't recall which.)

Hey BK, what controller are you using for Ski Racing 06? I ordered it off ebay so I should be getting it soon. Thanks bro.

Db......I also have that game and I use my Logitech Rumblepad 2
and it works fine. I used the software to lower the left thumbstick's
sensitivity a little and that helped a lot.

so is there anyone besides me and webdanzer that wants to do a career and compare scores?

p.s. I just figured out that while doing a career, it only gives you 1 practice run and then it counts. So what I do is look at what the next upcoming race is on the career calendar and then back out to practice
mode and run some practice runs on that course. Then I go back into career and do it for keeps. If you just go straight into each race with only the 1 practice run they give you, it's really tough to complete the course without crashing.

If you do it with Ski Racer I will definitely be down for comparison careers.

I can do some Ski Racer too. SR2006 is easier to play than Bodie's game, that is it's easier to not fall, but you have to be near perfect to place in the top 10. But there are always 2 or 3 turns per course that you really have to watch out for. They are both really fun games, IMO. Hard to pick one over the other. I just prefer Bodie right now cause it's a little prettier and more interesting, with the commentary, waxing options, etc.

cool. anyone else besides you, me and web?
I guess we can do a few weeks at a time and then compare
scores/standings? I would suggest we all use "Bodie" in the career
mode, so stats start out even. Should we all pick the samw coach and
wax mixer?

Cool!

Yeah, I agree we should use Bode. Do we want to grow and advance him, or simply keep his abilities static?

Good questions. I actually prefer to mix my own wax than hire the mixer.

Bk are you in? that would make 4 if you are.
Question......how do u know what wax mixture to use? does
more wax slow you down? for example would I want a low
wax mixture on downhill and high wax mix on slalom? what
are some good general guidelines? e.g. 85% for slalom, 75% for
downhill, etc

There's actually a good guide to mixing wax in the docs. It goes more on mixing the wax for the conditions on the course.
