So it wasn't the best attended tournament of the season, but it's my first W and I'm damn proud of it. :)

Image

I followed it up with my first ace, but I the YouTube link isn't cooperating for some reason.

In any event, I'm considering retiring on top.

News from the DSP PC Society... somebody must have ponied up about 10,000 VCs because I suddenly found 35,400 VC in the club's bank account, and I was able to get our Society up to level 8. Thanks go out to our club's benefactor!

On another note, I don't know how the rest of you who've played it feel, but this week's venue (Bro Hof Slott Golf Club, by mikemike3000) for the 72 hole tournament just bowled me over with awesomeness. I can't get over how well mike captures the flavor of these wonderful Scandinavian courses. I'd sworn I wasn't going to schedule the 72 hole tournament at a normal or firmer course, with fast greens this week, but knowing mike's reputation for getting the slopes and pin locations right on them, I went with it.

We've already got five people playing in this tournament, and it's shaping up to be an epic battle for second place, with one stroke separating 2 through 5. Tim's playing in a flight by himself right now :) I hope this will bring out a few more of our PC Society players this week... this one has a special feel to it, IMO. Mike has done a splendid job of creating a tournament atmosphere with the gallery placement, and all of the expected broadcast accoutrements.

FWIW, the weekend tourney on XB1 glitched on me. I hit an oob shot into some rocks where I can't hit a shot. Declaring it unplayable will not allow me to drop anywhere but in the rocks. Even if I drag the drop target all the way back to the tee box, it's X-ed out. Pretty damn irritating.

I was telling Vader over the weekend that I didn’t mind the course in general with the different heights and ondulations but the ridiculous greens just killed that initial excitement. I missed easy two, three feet putts that turned into 20 feet instead. On several holes mind you. Too bad because if the greens were normal I would have given it a 4 stars.

Well that sucks.

Only three of us completed this weekends tourney.

What was the PC tourney outcome? Loved the course got too aggressive on 13 in the first round which too my score from a -3 to +1 in one hole.

I don't know myself yet Dan. I know I had a DNF with only 7 holes to play in the tournament, when I was -14 and Gibbius Maximus was -13. Tim was something like -33 at that point. I had more stuff thrown at me than I could handle Sunday, and by the time the dust settled, I'd only gotten in 11 holes over three different play sessions.

I loved the course also and really regret that I couldn't finish it. It was one of the most enjoyable tournaments I've played in TGC 2.

This past week's 72 hole, PC DSP Society tournament was a good news/bad news situation for me. The good news was that I shot -34 for the event; the bad news was that Tim (DivotMaker) shot -49, leaving me in the dust. He stymied any hope for a 9 stroke rally on my part with his unconscionable 56 in round 4 8O :!: McNaughton Golf & Tennis Club is no pitch & putt course either!

The PC Society will have a "Major" (for whatever that amounts to?) this week at PGA West (Stadium Course). We've got Dailies today and tomorrow, but just as last week, this week's 72 hole tournament will run for 5 days, starting Wednesday.

Yeah, my best round ever in TGC2....I was in a zone and it seemed like I could not miss.

Thought I would be playing for second after seeing your -12 first round.....

Like the choice for the Major.....should be fun!

I'll do my best to play this weeks event but I don't really feel the draw to play when Tim is shooting an average of -12 a round. Not a shot at him he is clearly a better player than anyone else plus then there is JC, GB etc. So there really isn't much pull for me to play shooting for at best 3rd each week, especially with so many good games out.

I wonder why they don't have handicapped events? Or match play or team play or anything to help make this competitive when you want to play with friends of different skill levels. Just bland stroke play events where you're getting your ass kicked each week is sure to kill their audience.

On the flip side I did switch to tour clubs and my scores immediately dropped a few strokes. I may miss more fairways but I have a hell of an easier time recovering and maybe I'm nuts but I think the tour putter has some behind the scenes coding built in as I miss way less putts with it.

I will be playing fewer DSP events now that I have made my way to the PGA TOUR on TGC TOURS.

Keeping up with the PGA 4 rounder and TrueSim 4 rounder every week is about all my schedule can accommodate.

One way to level the playing field....create handicap tournaments which would be more compelling since I believe you can do this through the Society set up for each tournament.

Trust me, shooting -49 is really not fun nor realistic. I would enjoy a more competitive environment.

Is this possible in this version of the game?

I think so, but I hope it is not limited to Official Societies.

If not, I will likely bow out of DSP tournaments or play with no aids (no grids, scout cam, etc) so I can practice on my TrueSim Tour play at TGC TOURS.

I'm trying to compete on the Web.com Tour and am in danger of being demoted right now. I got DQ'd from the last tournament for violating the "Fair-Play" rule. I was on fire with my controller that day, as it was the same day I shot the 60 in the DSP tournament 1st round. I shot 59-59 and didn't miss a fairway and only missed one green over 36 holes. TGC Tours software determined I was using a non-complying controller and booted me out. I just shot a round of par in the first round this week, after having a course mismanagement OB triple bogey on hole 5, so I'll miss the cut this week also.

I shot a 71 later that day on the same course after I came out of the zone, missing 4 fairways and 6 greens. I was playing with a Nacon Revolution Pro controller, which I bought for my PS4 because of its geometry being identical to that of an XBox 360 controller, and in fairness to TGC Tours, they suggest that you use an official XBox 360/One or Sony DS4 controller. I'm back to playing with my XBox 360 Silver Edition controller now, but I'll use the Nacon Revolution Pro for all of my PS4 play, not just TGC 2. It's a well made controller and actually feels better in my hands than anything but the Elite.

As for the handicap tournament, yes, I can set that up for this week. I can modify the tournament settings since the tournament isn't live yet. Thanks for the suggestion Dan!

I wanted to delve a bit further into this issue of lower scoring. I know I didn't particularly enjoy shooting -34 for 72 holes. It's too easy to hit fairways and greens with my three favorite controllers. I've got a couple of older XBox 360 controller I could use and have a hard time breaking par with, but that seems like a workaround.

I really think what this game needs at its "Tour" club difficulty is the inclusion of an acceleration component like you've spoken about earlier. It would need to affect both the power and the direction in a way that FIRs and GIRs would be reduced into the 70 to 75% range of the upper skill level players. We wouldn't have a chance of seeing anything like that until TGC 3, IMO, and right now, I think this franchise has lost its momentum and will likely not see another edition.

I still like having the tempo component that we currently have, as token as it is, because it does add another control factor into the game that keeps it from feeling too flat. I probably have off tempo shots maybe 10 to 15% of the time, but they occasionally do result in a catastrophic result.

Dude please don't stop playing in the DSP we don't have enough people as is. My frustration is more with the lack of competitive play styles than losing. I would love a match play event or a team 4 ball etc. This game is just severely limited in terms of play options and yet the masses seem to be fine with it.

Handicap tournament has now been set at PGA West starting Wednesday. I tried to modify tomorrow's daily for it, but couldn't because the course (Montecido) doesn't have a Handicap rating yet.

I play with a standard XB1 controller, if switching a controller is that big of an advantage / disadvantage then there is something wrong with the swing mechanic. While the current swing modes are more enjoyable I think the older 3 click method was harder.

Yeah, I agree with Dan... I love playing with your ghost to give me something to shoot for. I've stolen a putt line from you or two along with the way also
I would love a match play event or a team 4 ball etc. This game is just severely limited in terms of play options and yet the masses seem to be fine with it.
So would I! Hell, this game can't even properly support a live stroke play match the way it's working right now... you'll think you're live and then realize your playing companion is actuall 1 to three holes ahead of you. You think you're playing a live, active player, but the game quietly puts them in ghost mode.

The masses have complained about it in the official forum, but are either ignored or deflected. I really think the current executive producer (Shaun West) has no interest in making any of that happen. He doesn't seem to be nearly as invested in the game as his successor, Anthony Kyne. This game is missing a huge draw not having a match creation utility and truly live multiplayer with Matchplay.
