Re: Forza 5

Post by DChaps »

Last weekend I was trying to get my Forza Rewards Tier maxed out in anticipation of Forza Horizon 2 coming out next week. I was working on a Rivals achievement where you need to complete 25 rivals events at any of the Nurburgring configurations. I found myself racing XXXIV's ghost at event after event, no matter what class. It was really fun, and while I hope he was sound asleep at 4:00am, it gave me something to shoot for and made it seem all the more enjoyable, as opposed to just trying to out hot-lap some random.

So it gave me the idea to create a DSP Rivals Challenge just for fun to bide our time until Forza Horizon 2 comes out. I thought that Road Atlanta would be the best place to do that as it is my home track, one of my favorite tracks in game, and on Oct. 4th, the inaugural TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup close out the season at the awesome endurance race, The Petit Le Mans.

http://www.imsa.com/

http://www.roadatlanta.com/petit-le-mans-road-atlanta

So, without further ado:

DSP Road Atlanta - Petit Le Mans Rivals Challenge

Tuesday Sep 23, 2014 - Monday Sep 29 at 11:59pm EDT

Post a Rivals Lap in all 8 classes at Road Atlanta

Use any car, setup/tune, and assists you like, but you must post a clean lap for it to count in the Rank.

Shoot for two Benchmarks (aka Ranks). The Mechberg Rank and the Mechberg 107% Rank

Why those Ranks? When searching my friends list in the Rivals ranks, I was finding our old friend Brian Ekberg (Mechberg) atop the leaderboards for practically all the cars/classes I was looking at. When Brian, aka BBReBozo, was part of Sports Reviewers and DSP, he was always a pretty good racer (remember the Colin McRae Rally Championship at SR?). Of course he works at Turn 10 now as their main community rep, but I think it is pretty cool that he clearly still loves the Forza series despite it being his job, and his laps show that he is still playing and posting new laps even almost a year after release, therefore, providing pretty solid lap times to shoot for.

So, all that said. Try to beat his times posted for Road Atlanta for all Classes, and if you can't do that, try to beat 107% of his times as a secondary benchmark. The 107% rule is a Formula One regulation where during the first phase of qualifying, any driver who fails to set a lap within 107 percent of the fastest lap time will not be allowed to start the race. Consider it the entry level benchmark. Your overall Rank is how positive or negative you are to the benchmark times.

At 11:59am EDT on Monday Sep 29, 2014 I will compile the results and give each DSP member posting times for each class a Mechberg Rank and a Mechberg 107% Rank.

I have provided below the current Mechberg Laps, Cars, Assists Used, etc. per Class at Road Atlanta, as well as the current World Record in Forza 5 and it's subsequent 107% time. Likewise, if there are some other cars that are consistently being used in the top 100 times, I posted those as well. But again, feel free to use your own and be creative.

Now you're taunting me to get this game when I really don't need it at this moment, especially with Forza Horizon 2 releasing next week and the incredible-looking Project Cars coming in November.

Decisions, decisions ... you F*CKER. :)

Completely different game than Horizon. More about hot lapping and setting times. Def a worthy addition to the XB1...especially at it's discounted rate these days.

Glad I could be of service.

Great minds think alike....I went for that same achievement for the same reason and it paid off as I finally got to tier 5 and an extra Horizon 2 car.

I dont think I can go any faster in most of the classes at Atlanta so I guess my posted times are the ones I have?

Yeah, you have some stout times already posted, but I think there are a few that you can get faster if you switch up your car. You at least need to post a time in the X Class (Lotus E21) so you will have a complete rank. The true way you will know if you can go any faster is if I beat any of your times. :)

Cool, thanks for posting Don. If I get a chance to play this week I'll put in some more times. I love the car variety on the leaderboards you posted, especially the D Class with the El Camino, Civic, C3 Vette, MINI, etc.

I forgot how fun this game was (and how fun chasing around ghosts was, which I'd never done in this game)!

Thanks for doing this, Don. I broke out of my Destiny trance last night long enough to lay down laps up through the S class, and by then it was after midnight. I couldn't imagine staying up that late playing a game that's almost a year old, but there I was, chasing ghosts around a track until morning hours.

Yeah some very nice times posted Terry, proving just how good you are at racing sims. You made short work of Brian's times and using some new car combinations as well. Pretty cool.

By the way, you probably don't use them, but how do you load a setup to use in a Rivals event?

I bet he cheated and used a wheel. Oh, and he kicks our ass. ;)

I hopefully will post some times over the weekend. My precious few hours of game time is a little more on the weekend, when i'm not changing diapers or playing hockey lol.

For me this game has become the racing version of WoW. level 238? Thats sick. It is partly due to not owning another game but I would say mostly due to nhls epic fail.

Took this game for my first spin tonight. Holy f*ck -- what a MONSTER. So much better than Forza 4 in every way that it's almost comical.

Once again, the force feedback triggers still might be the coolest feature of the XB1 for me, period. Incredible tactile feedback from a controller. Uncanny.

I can't wait to read your impression of the Drivatars... they are one of my favorite aspects of the game! Yeah, they get a little out of sorts, but I still get the sense I'm racing humans versus bots when I'm racing with them 8)

Oh. I do not own a next-gen console, I actually want a PS4 and so for impulse buying avoidance purposes, I was banking on you hating this...

Speaking of Drivatars: It was 3:00 in the morning, I was minding my own business in my Mugen Honda CRX Hot Hatch, and I am just starting into Eau Rouge at Spa, and what do I see - pk445 drivatar!!! Pretty fitting that I would come upon it for the first time at Eau Rouge. Adam, I hope to see your drivatar next! :)

I pre-ordered this game last Saturday, the day I brought home my shiny, new X1 from Best Buy. It will be a MONSTER online and hopefully here at DSP. The original Horizon was the most enjoyable driving game on the 360, in my opinion.

Yep, I raced just long enough last night to qualify my Drivatar.

The Drivatar system is insane. So cool. So innovative. It's fantastic to drive a single-player mode in a racing game and NOT b*tch or even need to comment about the AI.

What a game.

Nope, never used a setup in any Forza game. I think setups make the difference between the "fast" guys and the "World Class" guys, but until I feel I'm squeezing every ounce of speed I can out of a car, I don't even look at setups. I screw up somewhere every lap, so I'm not to that point yet.

I'm much more inclined to search for setups on ovals than I am on road courses.

Thanks for the clarification Terry. So far, I am loving the challenge of finding the right balance for Road Atlanta. I have used different builds of 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, 2011 Citroen DS3 Racing, 1973 BMW 2002 Turbo, and 1984 Mugen CRX. With Road Atlanta, you can't just setup for speed due to the slow corners and the S's. I had a couple DSP ghosts that I was chasing where I would have them beat easily through the first half of the track, then I would see them gaining on me in the rear view mirror in the long straight and I would have to make no mistakes under the bridge and the downhill to the finish to make it stick. Then I ran the Ferarri 250 GTO and I would be behind in the first half, but make it up on the straight. Really good fun. I think I had the most fun in the 1973 BMW 2002 Turbo. Below is my best lap so far. I was using the build of WearyMick, who builds fast, stable, and fun to drive builds and shares his info here:

I hear you. I don't mean that a good setup won't help somebody, of course--I'm just already getting chewed out for my controller of choice, let alone setup or car

Here's a strange idea--it's Thursday. Anybody feel like all getting on the track at the same time, perhaps?!?!

Finally tried Rivals mode after exclusively playing career and took 6 laps to beat 34's ghost at Road Atlanta in my newly designed Class X Ice Dragon car, was ready to give up after 4 laps but told myself one more lap twice to finally get it. :)
