Forgot about it!...downloading now.
Well I played two of the new maps and they are fun. One match was CQ and one was Scavenger. I had fun in the Scavenger match. You start out with a side arm and try and pick up guns randomly placed on the map. It wasnt death match...it was a CQ match so it was different bit cool. It's fast but not as fast as Close Quarters. I actually got the crossbow for a bit :). Got one kill. All in all it was fun.

The new maps offered in Aftermath are stupendously good. Old school. Reminds me of some of the urban maps in Ghost Recon: Island Thunder with a splash of Full Spectrum Warrior and Close Combat: First to Fight mixed in. So many places to hide. So many different heights from which to fight.

Simply luscious. Thanks for showing me a good time tonight, Rob and Brando! :)

There's no language filter option that I missed somewhere, is there?

I don't let my kids watch games like this but I occasionally play them while they are awake and in earshot.

But:

"HEY, I"M GETTING f***ed UP THE ASS OVER HERE!!!"

Shouted at a level that drowns out the gunfire and explosions will see a change to that policy for this game...

Well that's why you don't let PK play videogames with your kids.

Agreed, they are pretty awesome. Love Markaz Monolith -- great combo of armor and claustrophobic urban combat. There's nothing like rounding a corner near a blown out building and running into a tank.

After just finding aggravation with the new COD, going back to this game and playing it completely differently is a nice change. Had some big rounds as support last night (10+ kills, <3 deaths), just being a little sneaky, patient and C4-ing vehicles. Why didn't I ever use C4 in the past?

I'm looking forward to trying Aftermath, but I'm pretty skeptical of the close combat expansion. Only played a few minutes, but I really need a break from charging headlong into firefights and trying to win heads-up confrontations.

Coming straight from COD to the close combat stuff here in Battlefield, I actually find the Battlefield close combat stuff MORE crazy and chaotic than COD, which was not what I expected. COD is leisurely by comparison! :)

Also finding hipshooting to be more effective in BF than COD.

Web I find +/-'s to each and I enjoy both greatly. I really like playing CQ Dom (BF3) when double xp is being rewarded because I just level up and unlock so much stuff so quickly. I haven't found a quicker way. CQ is hectic, but the one big plus about is that there is no kill streak rewards. At the same time though, I am able to slow the pace down in Black Ops 2 more than many will give credit for. It doesn't have to be a frantic mess by any means.

I agree COD gets a little bit of a bad rap. Most games I play aren't frantic messes at all, except for maybe on Slums. (Don't have or play Nuketown)

I like BF3 a lot too, though I admit I have some BF3 niggles that I didn't expect that I need to overcome. Most of these stemmed from my expectations based on how the game is regarded here and with what I expected compared to COD:

--how much is locked starting from level 1, and how (relatively) slow the unlocks seem to come
--the performance (frame rate, tearing) compared to COD
--the frantic speed of the CQ stuff
--more camping and bunny-hopping than I've seen in COD

I am now used to the performance, which is okay as long as I don't come straight from COD, and the pace of CQ is fine now that I know what to expect. Still concerned that I will be behind the 8-ball for some time with the unlocks, but I like the game enough that I expect to play it for a while. Would LOVE to get into the next big-room DSP night. Right now I think I still prefer COD with Randoms.

Also, as Teal mentioned in his warfighter praise, BF3 is a little less tactical than I expected, especially with what I know about the playstyles of guys like Rob and PK. Granted, it's been a while since I've played online with a lot of you and seeing Rob tearing about on the CQ maps was definitely not in line with how I recall him playing games like Shadowrun and Ghost Recon! :) I will say, though, that the balance of my time spent so far has been in those smaller rooms, and I can see the pace being different on the larger maps.

Don't mean to sound too critical. I like it and I'm glad I grabbed it. Looking forward to playing with a bunch of DSPers soon!

It's all to do with the mindset of playing on those small maps in CQ. There's no safe angle on most of them, so moving is the only way to avoid an inevitable shot in the back most of the time. The only real tactics available in that mode is sticking together with teammates as you move.

Totally different story on regular outdoor maps. It really is two different games with the vehicles and wider maps. You can provide overwatch, fire and maneuver etc. in the "regular" game. Not to mention the chance to utilize the full range of support functions like resupply, healing, mortars, sniping etc. that are essentially non-factors in CQ.

I was saying last night the contrast between the original BF3 maps (which are still the best balanced IMO), the bigger AK and now AM maps and the entirely different world of CQ is pretty robust package. It can give you whiplash moving from mode to mode for sure.

IMO it's one of the beauties of the game. There's something for everyone and every playing style. It's probably my game of this generation, just wish I wouldn't have spent all my time with it on the ps3. Sometimes the thought of doing it all again is a bit demotivating.

CQ is like junk food. Something you eat for comfort and fun every once in a while. Conquest still remains the core of BF3, and it's much more tactical than CQ, especially when teams or three or four guys in a squad work together to capture flags.

I actually think there's an argument to be made that Rush is as good or better than Conquest. It's certainly more infuriating, as you have to be willing to accept that attackers are going to be killed with much greater frequency than defenders, but it's also more rewarding. It also requires far more coordination of the various assets on the board as well as among teammates.

I am a rush fan. I really like how it creates a front-line of the battle. Defenses claim their strong points, attackers probe and attack, flank. Perhaps move up an AMTRAC (or whatever that thing is called) for a mobile spawn point. It's really something different from death match or conquest or COD-style where the battlefield and battle lines are so liquid.

I need to play more Rush. Is there a map called 2112 or Hemispheres? :)

I play Rush almost exclusively. To me that is the quintessential Battlefield experience.

I mostly play Conquest. I guess I favor that mode since its classic BF and I've been playing since 1942 (the game not the year). Speaking of BF1942, 1943 was nice but I'd love to see a new WW2 BF game mixing in some of those great maps from 1942 and its expansions.

Last night I got on a server playing Rush on the new maps. Agree with what Naples said, it helps keep the battle more focused. Aftermath Maps are nice! What great timing on the release, with the BF3 revival in full swing.

I played some of that 4 squad CQ mode for the first time last night with Rob and Jimmy. I really like it! The benefit of working tightly with your squad keeps most teams pretty much together, which tends to lead towards more controlled fire-team fights than you get in the regular CQ two-sided modes. I'd love to get some multi-DSP squads going!

Yep. As noted above the new maps are really good.

I's also like to get in some small sided 4 person squad matches.
