Seems like the IGN guy probably didn't put as many hours into the game as the Eurogamer reviewer or the reviewer from 1UP.
There are a number of Gran Turismo 5's more anticipated features that curiously don't really reveal themselves until you've put a rather significant amount of time into the game. For example, the computer-controlled racers' A.I. has always been a source of contention in the GT series, and early in the game, it doesn't appear to have been addressed -- the other cars in the field are more obstacles than opponents. But progress into the high teens and twenties in driver level, and suddenly the A.I. drivers seem more organic, aggressive, and unpredictable.

Feanor if you like the game just buy it. You are going to have both sides giving their opinion. I'm playing it right now and so far nothing has jumped out and made me say those reviewers were wrong. The bottom line is GT5 is neither the cats meow or the worse racing game, it's somewhere in between.

When I compare it to Forza 2 or Forza 3 I still think Forza got more right than GT5 but that's just my opinion. As of right now with all the assists off I find the cars slightly easier in GT5 and i'm using a dualshock controller.

If your on the fence just buy or rent it and make your own informed opinion.

Like most little people who cling to censorship as their only life line, you are so very bitter.

I repeat for the tone deaf.... I will always and always have ignored reviewers... I WILL await the impressions of the actual people who play the games for their enjoyment as I do.

There might be some reviews that are worthwhile, but not a one that comes out on or before release day. These are done by video gaming tools, er, I mean journalists that wll in no way shape or form take the kind of time any sports game requires to do a proper review. And this includes racing games. They might be able to tell you ints crap, but there is no way they have played it enough to tell you if it is good, if you take the genre seriously.

We all know people through forums, or even certain reviewers that care about sports games. Those are the folks most of us will wait for. Seriously, is there anyone here that would buy any kind of sports or racing game based on IGN or 1up?

If you have a PS3, GT5 will probably be fine. But I don't see GT5 moving too many PS3s, since Forza has already cornered the market on this type of race fan. And the GT purists already have PS3s in their homes.

So far early into the game the AI seems to be able to pass without rear ramming but when you have an equal car they are no match. I'll wait to see if later on in the game if they get more aggressive.

Holy sh*t this game is constantly installing even after 7GB. Things I don't like or that appear sloppy. On my HDTV the game looks slightly grainy on certain tracks and others look fine. I've run into slight slowdown when things get hectic and the occasional screen tear. Right now i'm putting this game in the middle of the road as it's not as bad as some of the worse reviews led us to believe and on the flip side it's not as great as some of the Sony fanboys make it out to be.

Played a few hours tonight, will post impressions later but I`m in agreement with Rodster. It`s a solid game and I love the license tests but I prefer the racing in Forza 3 at this point.

BTW, took me almost 50 minutes to install the game and like Rod said, it`s still constantly installing. WTF?

I just realized that despite shitting on this series I still have my copies of every game in the series (including the PSP one).....I'm a sucker. :)

I haven't played the game and I don't think I'll be buying it because I think you need a good steering wheel to do it justice, and I don't plan on buying one of those. You posted a quote from a review that was negative about the AI, and I posted quotes from a couple of reviews that thought differently. Nothing that would cause a sane person to start ranting like a lunatic, but more than enough for someone as highly strung as XXXIV.

I'm not deaf, I just don't give a f*** if you have an irrational hatred of every reviewer in the world. I will continue to post about reviews in gaming threads on this forum, and if you think nothing from a review can ever have any value then just ignore them. Trying to censor discussion of reviews by saying they're all bullshit serves no useful purpose.

That might be true in the US, but Gran Turismo is much more popular in Europe. For example, GT5 Prologue only sold 1.2 million copies in North America but sold 3 million in Europe.

I think I might get NFS:HP if Amazon matches the $35 Black Friday deal various retail stores are offering.

I think I may have posted it in another thread but yeah NFS: HP will be on sale for $34.95 with Amazon and MOH and 2K11 are both $29 on Black Friday. Check cheapassgamer for updated info. Today is another big Amazon day for videogames.

I read that theirs a little over 13GB on the disc. I installed about 7GB already and it's still growing. From what i've read it's supposed to decompress the data as you go to portions of the game for the first time. Supposedly it will grow to about 10GB on the disc. Even with all that data on the drive it still loads about the same for me as playing Forza 3 from the DVD.

I'm with you I have everyone in the series minus GT and GT2.

I loved Burnout 3 on the Xbox, too, and NFS: Hot Pursuit II on the PS2. :)

But I got Burnout Paradise on the PC last year and got bored with it pretty quickly since I didn't care for the open world design.

Reading the gamer impressions at OS is interesting. I'm back to thinking of picking this up over the weekend.

I had some more runtime with GT5. Some things I don't like and it's performance related. The game stutters and sputters when too many things are happening at once on the screen. When that happens you will encounter nasty screen tears. Sense of speed or lack there of is still present in GT5, no surprise.

I had time to mess with Course Maker which should be aptly named Course Editor. You are not creating anything just editing preset courses that are available. It's somewhat flexible but it's also misleading. Graphically the game is hit and miss. Some things look really nice and others not so nice. The dynamic shadowing boarders on annoying where you'll see flashing of light in the cockpit view along with pixelated shadows. There is also a fair share of jaggies throughout.

Rally cars no longer have that nice gripping feel on gravel or dirt. Now they feel like you are driving on ice. Back to the AI, not bad per say but you don't feel like you are being challenged. In Forza 3 you are trying to control a car at high speeds along with AI that's trying to get in front of you which makes for a more compelling race experience. Again the AI in GT5 is not terrible just toned down.

Online play currently is getting hammered so Sony issued an update to stay away because of an overload on the servers. They are trying to fix it.

Overall if I compare Forza 3 to GT5, Forza 3 comes away as the solid winner only because it's consistent throughout the full range of what it's trying to accomplish whereas GT5 does this nice but fails trying to do something else. Anyway's i'm really trying to be as unbiased as I possibly can. I'm already started to get a little bored with GT5 and annoyed at the same time with a product that's been in development for 5 years, it's somewhat on the beta side.

I actually had fun with the Super GT's. I had an AI car block me going into the first Monza chicane. I watched them race each other. One thing that GT does well is how it simulates weight shift and transfer. You are always encouraged to take the proper entry into a corner. Also kitty litter has been simulated well. It takes some work to get your car out of the sand.

Online in this game is idiotic - it reminds me of the old PS2 Winning Eleven games where you just have user created lobbies and you don't know much about the lobby until you enter it. That was back in 2006. No rankings, no quick match. There's not even weight/horsepower restrictions!!! Half the time I'd enter a lobby and the race would have already started or everyone would be in a f***in supercar so I had to exit and then enter another random lobby. This would be frustrating enough but it takes at least 2-3 minutes to do this. After more than 15 minutes of looking I finally got a game....and got cornholed at the first turn (though that's not unique to Gran Turismo)!

I do like the 'Free Run' mode where you just drive around the track with other cars while the room fills up.

Macca, in case you haven't seen this about a patch that's due tomorrow:

"An update for gargantuan simulation racer Gran Turismo 5 will be released on Saturday 27th November, creator Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed to Eurogamer in a new interview.

"We received a lot of demands for having more regulations placed on the online play. We're going to perform an update on the 27th that will include things like max power restrictions and weight restrictions," Yamauchi said.

"It's like a living creature, dynamically growing as we speak."

According to Yamauchi, the update will "refine the usability of the game to make it a better experience.

"I think it's going to be hard to find an end to that process," he admitted.

This morning it emerged that Sony has had to limit some areas of Gran Turismo 5 while it works out a way to ease the online congestion currently crippling the game.

The high demand coupled with GT5's constant communication with the internet is causing all sorts of problems that spill over even into single-player races.

Sony's temporary solution? Disable your PS3 internet connection.

"Yesterday the online service was kind of in a critical state," Yamauchi said.

"The data centre was set up to handle 500,000 connections but the number of connections we received greatly exceeded that amount and there was a high chance of experiencing problems as a result.

"The design of the GT game really integrates the online and offline parts. So the problems online actually affected the offline play as well. Right now we've changed the number of simultaneous connections that are possible to one million, doubling the number, and we're trying to gauge what will happen, but we don't know at this point in time."

Yamauchi also responded to criticism of the online feature set, revealing to Eurogamer, "Online updates are planned of course for leaderboards and matchmaking - [they're] all planned in the process of evolution."

The Polyphony Digital boss pledged that his team would be "upgrading every week, every month" to improve the game, which took five years to develop."

That's because you don't need AI for online play. Besides in GT5 the AI is more weak than robo.
