You can say J. Halak has cooled down lately.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Oil has allowed 71 goals in 17 games -- worst defense in the NHL. Four-plus goals against per game isn't going to cut it. Another brilliant decision by the Oilers' braintrust management in the last two years to sign Tom Gilbert and Nikolai Khabibulin to a ridiculously overpriced contracts.

Flyers already have 5 goals in period 1 vs. Tampa Bay. The Bob has let 3 in himself though.

Good game to watch marked by poor D and shoddy goaltending to say the least. S. Stamkos is making a strong case for the Hart award in this young season. He's only going to get better.Diablo25 wrote:Damn, make that 4. 5-4 Flyer.Diablo25 wrote:Flyers already have 5 goals in period 1 vs. Tampa Bay. The Bob has let 3 in himself though.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Flyers blow 2-0, 3-2, 5-3, and 7-5 leads. Unbelievable.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
After having a mini slump last week where Canucks lost 4 games in a row, guys like A. Burrows and especially M. Samuelsson are picking up the slack as the home team routs the Sharks 6-1. Having better starts has been the key to the last couple of victories instead of playing constant catch up and being down 0-2 in the 1st periods.
PK Subban is not getting a good rep lately in the league. He's seen as a yapper who's yet to prove his worth and when the action heats up, he doesn't put the $$$ where his mouth is as proven tonight with ATL as he turtled a fight with Z. Bogosian.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Quarter way into a long season and the Wings look like the team to beat.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Haven't seen much of the Western conference, but I do like the Flyers chances in the East. The biggest hitch for me is still in goal. Bobrovsky is winning everyone over, and he's obviously got some exciting ability, but I'd be very nervous if the playoffs started tomorrow. He's still learning the ropes and adjusting, and gets caught by surprise on some shots, and tends to hunch in his shoulders on the butterfly on long shots making him 'small' in the net.
Also, the Flyers definitely got hosed out of a point the other night. Anyone see this?
The call is ridiculous, because 1) Pronger's actions are nowhere near Avery's, for which the rule was specifically implemented, 2) Pronger's not facing Kiprusoff, which the rule explicitly requires, 3) if the refs really thought it was illegal under the new rule, it's a penalty as soon as it happens---you don't let play carry on then only call it if a goal is scored without the official ever raising his arm.
Rarely do you see a call so obviously incorrect directly affect the result of a game like this.

Like Don Cherry said "Hes to good a player for that,he doesn't need to do it".
Its bush league and its Sean classless Avery one and the same.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
A veteran and former Norris winner like C.Pronger shouldn't rely on dumb and childish tactics to make a difference in OT. Even though his actions are not necessarily illegal, it was dumb. It's the NHL, not pee wee hockey.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I can't disagree that it was a silly play by Pronger, but the refs botched the call assuming they should even be making one.
Also, the goal didn't go in because of Pronger's screen per se, it went in because Kiprusoff slashed Pronger and he got caught not paying attention. If Kiprusoff had just ignored it nothing would've happened.
Kipper lost his cool and made a stupid play--it's not much different than a player getting a penalty after the whistle for retaliating to another players instigation. The refs bailed him out.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
It's a poorly written rule, so the refs took it upon themselves to make up their own addition to the rule to bail out a particular player.“An unsportsmanlike conduct minor penalty (Rule 75) will be interpreted and applied, effective immediately, to a situation when an offensive player positions himself facing the opposition goaltender and engages in actions such as waving his arms or stick in front of the goaltender’s face, for the purpose of improperly interfering with and/or distracting the goaltender as opposed to positioning himself to try to make a play.”

Ding-ding. Winner, winner, chicken dinner. The penalty should have been called immediately.Naples39 wrote:I can't disagree that it was a silly play by Pronger, but the refs botched the call assuming they should even be making one.

And Pronger resorting to cheap tactics to try to win? This is a revelation? You cats haven't paid attention to this dude's career very closely if it is.
News flash: The Oil loses again at home, 4-3, to San Jose. Captain Shawn Horcoff finds moral victory in comeback from 4-1 deficit. Show me a team whose captain finds positives in yet another defeat, and I'll show you a losing team.

I guess Mr Lebrun agrees with me and while I wouldn't rank the Hawks that high, teams like the Kings & Lightning should be a step or two higher.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
As is yearly tradition, I went to the Oilers game last night here in Ottawa, and proudly donned my Oil jersey, along with seemingly half the crowd. I guess it's like they say in the paper today, when your team comes once a year, everyone shows up.
The Sens looked a bit listless, maybe taking the Oil too lightly? Good storyline, Gerber, who was run out of town, wins the game, including stopping Alfie in a SH breakaway.
Hall looked ok, but didn't knock my socks off. Eberle however looks like he's been in the league for years, controlling the puck like it's glued on his stick and creating a ton of space. He's also not afraid to get hit, as he did get mushed a few times, both in the play and probably off camera too.
The Sens took too many penalties, which did them in. The Oilers D played well too, holding the Sens to 20 shots.
In a game with two wildly inconsistent teams, the Oilers were slightly better.

That was huge. If he didn't make that save, it's 2-1 Sens shorthanded and with both teams mentally weak and all the penalties being called out it was a big momentum swing.Gangrel wrote: Good storyline, Gerber, who was run out of town, wins the game, including stopping Alfie in a SH breakaway.
Surprised to notice the arena was not full.

Well, it was a Monday night game, which is unusual as they tend to happen on Thursdays and Tuesdays. Plus, I'm sure only the Oilers fans cared to see the weakest team in the West come play, as there were deals galore on tickets. I basically saved $60 on a pair of tickets in the 200's because there are so many deals around town.
And, I've come to realize that Ottawa is fairly fickle. When the team isn't steam rolling the league, there tends to be empty seats. I don't know if it's because we're a government town, or what. Or, the fact the rink is in the West end of hte city, so you don't tend to get a lot of walk up sales.......
I think the recession, while sheltered a bit here for all the government, still had and still has an impact on all the private sector IT folks here still looking for work.....

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Kevin Bieksa's day's as a 'Nucker have been numbered since training camp. With the addition of Ballard and Hamhuis, the soon to be UFA was simply a money problem to the already tight capped VAN team. Then of course Sami Salo gets hurt offseason so Bieksa stays a bit longer. The rumors last night was that he was going to WAS for T. Fleischmann who's been struggling and will also be an UFA.
All along I thought the Caps have too many rushing D-men like Bieksa and while they may not have enough of his grit they just acquired S. Hannan from COL who's a more at stay D-man. Fleischmann goes instead to the Avs who are experiencing some injuries upfront, good trade for both teams.
Bieksa can breathe easier again but once Sami comes back, I don't like his chances of staying in VAN too long unless another D-man gets hurt which in Lotus land it has become an annual infection.

This is the type of sh*t that bugs me in Canada when you have a bunch of fuc*ed up thugs doing the type of crap that they do. And then they consider themselves Hockey Gods. Same thing with the Crosby jersey during the Olympics although it was later found. Can these people have some kind of respect at all just after a funeral?

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Canucks toyed at will with the Flames in the Saddledome as all four lines continue to tick like a Swiss watch. M.Raymond who's been struggling to find the net, had a hat trick and now it's off to the windy city on Friday where VAN got whipped pretty good at home last week from the Hawks, so you know the boys are ready for a little payback.
