Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
Is the Halloween version just with orange and black colors and themes or does it have different puzzles?
Funny that it comes from a Finnish company. I don't think they celebrate Halloween the same way we do. For that matter, that game is a worldwide huge hit so maybe only Americans would get the Halloween version.

Some puzzles are quite similar to the original game but I can tell they've added some new ones. With GC now, trying to achieve the highest points is more important for some players than just simply passing a particular level.wco81 wrote:Is the Halloween version just with orange and black colors and themes or does it have different puzzles?

I read somewhere over the weekend that EA just bought them over.

NBA Gametime 2010-11 app is up.
Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
EA bought the English publishing company Chillingo, not the Finnish company Rovio that created the game.10spro wrote:Some puzzles are quite similar to the original game but I can tell they've added some new ones. Not sure exactly what that means for future versions.

Assuming this thing actually works, I'd pay $3 to be able to watch embedded flash video on the iPad.

I'd be surprised if it seamlessly converted everything but I'll give it a try.

I have my doubts too. Gotta wait for some reviews.
Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
I was excited to read earlier today that Backbreaker 2 is coming soon, and that the guys who make that game are also coming out with Jenga for the IPhone. I was also surprised to read that Backbreaker 1 sold more than 3 million copies through the app store.

Don't forget that Backbreaker was free for awhile too and I am sure a lot of people got it through that period including myself.GTHobbes wrote:I was excited to read earlier today that Backbreaker 2 is coming soon, and that the guys who make that game are also coming out with Jenga for the IPhone. Another flash-related app;

HIGHLY skeptical, but may be worth checking out. $7 at launch, going up to $20 thereafter.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/19/spla ... ur-iphone/Oh, sure -- you've got a smorgasbord of virtual machine clients out there for the iDevice in your life, but you haven't had this one. Until today, of course. Splashtop (the former DeviceVM) has just unleashed its Remote Desktop app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, enabling users to funnel Windows PC content onto their handheld. The catch is an obvious one -- you'll need a WiFi connection to make the magic happen, though we're assuming you wouldn't even want to imagine how sluggish the process would be over 3G. The company claims that this app will let users "watch movies, listen to music, or access any other Windows files and programs, including full web browsers with Flash," and you'll need a WiFi-connected Win7, Vista or WinXP machine nearby to take advantage. We've got a feeling this won't work nearly as well as advertised (sorry, it's just the nature of tunneling / emulation), but those willing to take the plunge can tap into the App Store as we speak.

Just wanted to say I am enjoying Steam Birds a lot on the iPad. Wish it had multiplayer though.

Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
I wouldn't read too much into paid apps going free. There's a reverse economy breeding on the app store. It's all about getting high on the top paid/free apps. So dropping your price for some time means you can make more money. Traditional pricing methods seem off in the new micro-economy.10spro wrote:Don't forget that Backbreaker was free for awhile too and I am sure a lot of people got it through that period including myself.GTHobbes wrote:I was excited to read earlier today that Backbreaker 2 is coming soon, and that the guys who make that game are also coming out with Jenga for the IPhone. I was impressed by some youtube videos of this in action, and apparently I was wrong on price--it's $2 at the moment. Couldn't resist trying....Naples39 wrote:Another flash-related app;http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/19/spla ... ur-iphone/Oh, sure -- you've got a smorgasbord of virtual machine clients out there for the iDevice in your life, but you haven't had this one. Briefly tried it at home across my home network connecting to my Win7 laptop, and it actually works!!
Getting around the desktop is slightly laggy compared to sitting at an actual windows machine, but it works just fine for the purpose.
Also tested out watching a Family Guy episode at fox.com on my laptop's web browser, and also watched a 700MB movie file through windows media player. Both worked great. If there's any lag in video performance, it's hardly noticeable.
Maybe it won't work so well if your iPad and server PC aren't on the same network, but even if it doesn't this is worth $2 no doubt.
Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
Sounds like this uses Windows Remote Desktop Protocol only. Good price.
There are raves about Logmein, which works with all computers. But it's $30. Other screen sharing programs are also high-priced. I think what's probably happening is that businesses have a need to control headless servers so they are willing to pay the higher prices to be able to use the iPad to briefly control these machines remotely.

Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
Splashtop for iPad/iPhone requires that you install server software on any computer you want to remotely connect. It was very simple to install, and is available for PC and Mac.
What shocks me is that I've used windows remote desktop quite a bit, and streaming any video is a waste of time and sound mostly sucks. The video on the tests I did via Splashtop was fantastic.

Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
Thanks for the head's up Naples. For $2 I couldn't resist and I'm very happy so far. I have Logmein (bought it when it was on sale for $19.99 with iTunes gift cards that were 30% off so the cost was reasonable). That's good for doing simple stuff and I can use on 3G, but this is MUCH better on the same network and includes sound. It worked great streaming ESPN3.com and The Daily Show. Plus, I use this type of software to play text-based games like OOTP on my iPad and it is flawless. The touch screen works much better than any similar software I've tried. This was on a Windows Vista PC. I tried on the Mac, which is Beta, and it seems like a work in progress. The quality of streaming music was poor and the volume went up on my Macbook when I turned up the volume on my iPad, something that doesn't happen on the PC (I keep the PC on mute when I'm controlling it remotely and can control the volume on just the iPad).

Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
There are some marked down iPad apps as part of Thanksgiving. Scrabble is $4.99 as a for instance. Let's Golf 2 is $.99. Has anyone played Rage? Its only $1.99 and looks pretty good.
Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
Target has $25 iTunes gift cards tomorrow for $20 before 10AM. Also, if you spend $100 in store you get a $10 gift card. Throw 4 of these and a few other items in your cart that get you over the $100 limit and you can essentially get $100 in iTunes credit for $70. I've done this the last couple years and since these aren't hot sellers it's not hard to find them. It's nice getting everything for 30% off and the hundred bucks lasts my family the whole year. I believe Best Buy also has something like $50 cards for $40 bucks through Saturday.

I highly recommend GPS Drive MotionX if anyone is in need of a gps. I had mine stolen from my car recently and, after reading the reviews, decided to give it a shot. At 99 cents, I think it's a better gps than the garmin they stole. Highly impressed.

Yeah...I've got nearly everyone that used to be on iPhones with me, playing Word Feud on Android. Same thing. Who'd have thought Scrabble would translate so well to the mobile platform? I think the best part is the official Scrabble dictionary is built in so there are no arguments...if it accepts it, it's legit.ScoopBrady wrote:Words with Friends. Addictive as hell. Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
Bought 'Let's golf 2' for the ipad and iphone, the game is a bit more challenging than the first version especially as more courses are being unlocked, but I just wished I couldn't drive 320+ yards here and there as a starter. Still can't go wrong with $.99.
Also purchase 'Madden 11' for the iphone 4 and the game looks really good.
