Unfortunate nature of the business. If he was to play for the Cards, would you be surprised if he was more cheered than jeered?
Manny's the first player to make me really see both sides of this issue. When guys like Bonds, A-Rod and Clemens got busted it was easy for me to sit back and say "how can anyone cheer for those cheaters?", mainly because I thought those guys were a**holes before they got busted.

But I'm a HUGE Manny fan, and when he got busted at first I was disappointed, but I'm finding out now it's alot easier to forgive and forget when it's one of your favorite players.

I guess that makes me a bad baseball fan/purist, but all I know is that was a heck of a moment last night.

The Manny-love out here is out of control. I've always felt that the majority simply DOES NOT CARE about roids. We're seeing it in real-time daily. Even the most stern media critics of roids & baseball seem to be shrugging their shoulders these days. The more active players get busted, the more the public becomes numb to it all.

Manny is just such a natural hitter (both contact and power), it's funny he felt he needed to take anything.

What an incredible catch by Dwayne Wise in the 9th to rob Kapler of a HR,to keep the perfect game intact. And he was put in as a defensive replacement to start the inning.

Manny's the first player to make me wonder whether the league's even worth following. Bonds and McGwire were met with the appropriate derision, but being at a Met game last month and seeing people cheer for the guy made me queasy. And watching the Mets makes me queasy enough already.

But seriously, I would not root for him on my team.

Exactly. You think I'd be cheering for him if evidence of steroids arose during his prolific home run race? Not a chance. Andro by the way not illegal at the time.

But Citi Field sure is pretty. Out of the 5 east coast ballparks on my trip last month, that park impressed me the most.(with apologies to Orioles Park, which wasn't on the tour this time unfortunatley).

And I'm sure it was just Andro  , And lets not forget there are 104 other players not named on the list that exposed ARod. We probably all root for players on our teams that are on that list. My personal opinion is that you had juiced pitchers throwing to juiced hitters.Call it the PED era. Like a deadball era in reverse. I feel bad for the players that chose not to juice, and lost thier careers to players that did.Even cost GM Dan Duquette his job. He correctly surmised a broken down Roger Clemens, and let him go to the Jays, and was ridiculed in Boston for that move. OK,enough rant.
What do you Cards fans think about getting Julio Lugo for Chris Duncan?
And MLB network just reported Cards are looking at Matt Holiday.
Indians trade Rafeal Betancourt for a prospect. The Indians firesale may be just around the corner.

And speaking of firesales, while the Jays record is not necesarily bad when you have TPA, BOS and NY in your division, besides R. Halladay, I wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Rios, Wells, and Rolen find a new home.

As a Cards fan, anything beats watching Chris Duncan's pop-out & double-play ground ball routine (with bad fielding to boot!). I was amazed he was able to stay in the Majors this long (even with being Dave's kid).

Cards trade their top prospect, Brett Wallace, Clayton Mortenson, and Shane Peterson for Matt Holiday.

Could be a great move but it could also only be a two month rental. If i'm Holliday, I'm asking for the moon regarding an extension...the Cards basically have to pay it or he walks. Looks like Dewitt and company all the sudden have got to come up with at least $300mil for Holliday and Pujols now...

I agree Tim. If we can lock up Holliday for a few years, it's a great deal for the Cardinals. As it stands, I gotta give the edge to the A's as I think Wallace is going to be pretty damn good. But again, he may not have fit in with the Cardinals as his defense is supposedly poor at third base. He's more suited to play first.

I don't know. I worry about a prospect who costs millions less than perhaps a two month rental.....

I'm definitely looking forward to going to the Dodgers/Cards game next Thursday.

Until Holliday starts hitting like he did at Coors...it may be asking a lot to lock him up for 100 mil.

I think batting between Pujols & Ludwick may help that BA. I like the move. It's very unlike STL to "go for it" in this manner. Adding DeRosa, Lugo, and Holiday all via trade def isn't business as usual. I think STL looked around the division (and the NL in-general) & figured this push could go a looong way.

Holliday is having a nice first night. 3-4 with two rbi, and a double.

I love the 2-3-4-5 hitters in the Cards lineup.

DeRosa
Pujols
Holliday
Ludwick

That's awesome!

EDIT: Make that 4-5 for Holliday

The Cardinals lineup is just sick now and any time the current ownership spends money it's a bonus with me. They've been too cheap in the past regarding player movement for as much money as they have made since owning this team. Still don't care for Dewitt but the deal yesterday generates interest for fans like me who have not been happy with the organization.
Even though i'm not sure GM John Mozeliak is in total control or calling all the shots at least he's been walking around lately like he has a brass set and that he's the man. He hasn't given off a vibe like that since he's been in charge...it's refreshing to see.

I like the move. I don't mind trading an unproven hitter for a guy who has hit before and is on fire of late.

If you want to "win now", these are the kinds of moves we need.

I don't think he will sign, but who knows...

Management is banking on Holliday being sold on being a St. Louis Cardinal and all that comes with it. Cardinals are gonna have to pay up though, thats for sure.

They need to lock up Pujols and then sit down with Holliday.
