I tried, but failed, to send an invite. Please make sure you've set up your online player data. Take it online if possible and let us know to resend you the invite. It seems that just having a Live account is not enough, but you must let the EA servers register you before we can send out an EASHL invite. We can always invite you to a private match, but not EASHL until you've been online with your BAP.ddtrane wrote:Hey guys, I just got the game tonight, is there room for one more DSPer?

You should be punished for waiting so long.Danimal wrote:Is there a way for me to get in on this as I recently got the game or is their a space limit?

I know there's a cap but I don't think we're near it yet. One of the team leaders will have to send you an invite. First make sure to log into live with your created character so the invite goes through.

Yeah, we need goal scorers. I am seriously considering changing my guy back to a Playmaker so that I can snap in those deadly passes and hit the corners with my shot once in a while, 80%+ face-off numbers be damned! I like my grinder because I like to hit, and I like to play a little D-man when necessary, but man our team sucks at times, and it's not due to giving up very many goals, not very many at all.
I do wish one could change his player in the dressing room rather than having to back out, but more likely I just have to try better to figure out what the group we are in really need. Can I say I was spoiled with ShadowRun and its player-select system? Sure there was no buffing up from game to game, but it was a very nice system where you could look at what types of players were on your side and try to fill the holes.
Anyway, I like to win, I try to win, I play to win, but in the end it's just awesome to have a real sports game that allows us to play online in a team with our own identity and take on all comers, letting the chips fall where they may.
Danimal and ddtrane, I will send you Club invites if I can, but you have to make sure your online BAP has been created. The Club limit is 50, and we are not even half-way to that limit.
One more thing - it is possible for us to play multiple Club games at once. Basically, you fill one dressing room and start a game, and then once that game is underway, others can gather in the dressing room and head on out. The only real issue is my little rule of 'Two Is Not Enough' in terms of opponents, not to mention the common backing-out of teams in the matchup lobby. But whereas I like private games with DSPers a hell of a lot, I am also highly intrigued by the idea of playing Club games all the time. There's just something about that Party system and the whole 'We Are DSP' to the world kind of thing.
We suck, yes. But man this s*** is fun as hell. Too bad PK is so dead-set against rejoining our online community for this kind of thing. I just know he would love it to death. "Jack, PASS THE f***in PUCK!"

It's clear that Rally and myself (a.k.a "The Sport", "Hockey God", "O'Donnell) are the only ones that can score with any consistency.
I say you all should practice your defensive skills and just give me the damn puck.
Oh, and I'm changing my name to Sport Siete-Tres.

Well yeah, because we all know you can't hit for a damn. And please, don't sucker us into letting you into goal EVER AGAIN! It was, like, a week ago, but I remember it very well . . . .Sport73 wrote:It's clear that Rally and myself (a.k.a "The Sport", "Hockey God", "O'Donnell) are the only ones that can score with any consistency.

Seriously though, I will say that in my time on D last night, it was a tad frustrating to have so many forwards drifting so far back rather than applying the appropriate pressure at the blue line or in the neutral zone. If you want to play D first, play a Defenseman. If you want to be a FWD, than try your best to disrupt the puck in the neutral zone, and then get back and forecheck in the defensive zone. Trust the D-men, is what I'm saying.
And oh yeah - there's no shame in having one cherry-picker and looking to spring that breakaway! They got rid of the two-line pass prohibition for a reason! We have to do better to take advantage of that.

So are we playing tonite? I am back in town and ready to tickle the twine!

Well, you boys are probably still playing, but I need to hit the sack early tonight! For my first time with it online, I have to say it was a blast!!
Bit confusing with all those coloured player markers, but a bit better once I found out how to turn off the other teams.
A few things I learned....
1) I need to find my mic/buy a mic. I could hear your voices a bit, but definately need to communicate. Besides, I miss the best one liners!
2) My BAP player, which is actually based on my real height and weight (I was #21, Menchions) gets knocked off the puck when the wind changes direction! I either need to build up my stats and get better puck control, or go on a Mike Phelps diet and eat!
3) shoot more! I passed more then I should, which is what usually happens in a hockey game anyway, real or video.... though I did have some nice chances that just got robbed....... but I also enjoy attempting to set you guys up on one timers, especially if a managed to cut behind the net and hit someone on the other side
4) It's hard to keep track of where the puck is, where I am, and where I'm supposed to go! That'll come with time I hope
All in all, it was a blast, even getting smoked 5-0 (??) with Mactep Sporta geting 4 or 5 points!!!!! (we hella sucked that game, lol)

Ha,
Yeah this game is a blast! Thanks Zeppo for convincing me to pick this one up. And that last 5-0 game was hilarious - I played pretty decent D until the last game where I just ended up wandering all over the bloody place in my defensive zone.
At least the goalie couldn't complain about being screened by the D - hell, the one goal I think our entire team got caught breaking out of the zone without the puck!
Best wishes,
Doug

Had some good fun last night in private games, but I am anxious to do some public games. In the past we've always gotten our ass kicked in games I've participated in online, but I feel much more comfortable with the game now. Although I'm still pretty lousy on breakaways, I am scoring consistently otherwise. 6 goals in 4 private games last night, and I put up 8 on some poor sap in a 1p online ranked matched last night.
I'm more likely to be playing from 8-10pm however than the late night crowd. If you see me online and want to do a DSP game definitely give me a shout.

Bah, last night I just couldn't get things to fall my way. I hate nights where I don't end up on the scoresheet at all.
Defensively, I felt *mostly* sound with the notable exception being too deep on the OT goal against. I did call out my intention on jumping in the rush, but I still would have liked to have gotten back in time to break up the play.
Actually, I find that the game does a pretty good job of punishing you when you try to force things or press too much. I have to remind myself sometimes to stay "within the gameplan". I noticed, as a team, that when we get anxious to play the puck up ice we either got long passes picked off or multiple player caught deep as the play went the other way.
Lack of finish last night hurt and, as a sniper, is something I felt at least partially responsible for. The perfect metaphor for my night was the loose puck in the slot that I just *couldn't* be patient to grab before shooting so I kept cross-checking thin air

Thanks for the invite last night. I obviously need to spend a lot more time with the game to learn the advanced controls etc, but I still had a great time.
I am a complete hockey noob so feel free to bark commands at me on the ice as I probably have no clue what I should be trying to do at any given moment. That being said, I did manage to actually score a goal last night and I scored an "A" on position ... thanks to the blue arrow. Looking forward to playing again.

For all those hockey noobs, I have only 2 requests of my online teammates.
#1 - Don't bunch up. Look for where your teammates are and go to open space when you don't have the puck. Sometimes that means a forward hanging back on a rush or coming down low on defense, and we don't need all 3 forwards going for an offensive rebound, forwards standing on the same boards waiting for a 'home run' pass next to each other, etc....
#2 - For the love of god, please skip most replays and the cutscenes we see over and over again.

In the late night league matches, other than the last match against the Quebec team where we lost 2-0 but they just flat outplayed us, we were mostly competitive but just could not put the puck in. G7 in the game that you were mentioning where you were caught in an odd man rush, I believe that I just hit the post and the puck swings outwards towards the board creating their rush. I think it was just two minutes left and all of the sudden game over. Bad luck.
I recall another game where we definitely carried the play, but again, the lack of finish, luck ended up costing us the game in a SO. Now you guys know how I felt mostly with the Canucks last season.
