I'm with you Teal. I came to that conclusion a few years ago when I raced weekly in the FBRL Papyrus Nascar league. I had one season where I was able to put time into it. Sure enough I won a few races and ended up finishing first in the point standings. The next season, my son was born and my play and practice time went down. Needless to say, I DNF'd just about every race and was a hazard to everyone on the track. At that point I realized that I was just not cut out in the longhaul for serious sim racing.

I'm always tempted to pick up a game like Race 360, but I know now the end result will be just like Teal's experience. I've become that which I used to stick my nose up at.....an arcade racing fan looking for billboards to smash. :)

The DSP poker nights are pretty easy going when it comes to skill levels though. We take all comers, as long as you don't purposely drive like a weiner then we're happy to have you.

Hell, if we can race with PK after he's had a Labatts or 6...

It's not that I think I'll piss off any DSP'ers, it's that I HATE being *that* guy, y'know?

it's no different than hiding in a corner and sniping everybody. You're *always* that guy. Come on and race, you wanker.

LOL, we're all "that guy" at one time or another. Thats why I prefer racing with the DSP bunch rather than anyone else. It's 50% racing and 50% hanging out with some buddies. Besides, we love to teach a new guy how to race. And Terry loves to SHOW us ALL how to race!

You could always park on some remote portion of the infield, and when you see me coming by, haul ass out and T-Bone me. That would be a major hit (pun intended).

Vehicular sniping FTW.

I'm a fan of the game, but the graphics leave a lot to be desired IMO.

Draw distance is fine, frame rate generally solid, and in a game like this that's enough for me. I'd prefer it if the reflection on the hood in hood cam was dynamic instead of being the same scenery no matter where on track you are, I'd prefer it if the resolution was higher, I'd prefer it if Muller's WTCC Seat Leon didn't have Tarquini's name written on it if you're playing in-car (though curiously, it does say Muller if you're looking back from an external view, and I don't really care either, don't worry), but if all these things were improved, passing for the lead up the inside of Druids hairpin at Brands with both inside wheels locked up would feel just the same.

I did that just now in the Seat, and it felt absolutely spot-on. I've only had a go in the Mini, WTCC cars, F3000 and Radical SR3 so far but they've all been a blast. I've got the AI on very hard and they seem a bit too polite at times - they've driven off the road to give me space once or twice, and if I'm recovering after a mistake they're inclined to wait behind me instead of driving around - but otherwise there's pretty much sod all wrong so far and it's a wonderful game to play.

I dropped by the official forums for the game this morning and about half the people are seeing absolutely no FFB effects like Don and the rest say it's fine. There definitely appears to be problem. Hopefully they'll be able to fix it in an update.
There seems to be a vast majority of users reporting no FF at all, and when I say none at all I mean none. There is tension, but that is it. If I switch over to Forza, FF is just fine. In the Atari forums there have been a couple supposed fixes reported, however, most seem to be saying this does not work.

First of all, the credit goes to flantheman on these forums. He's not online and I asked him to start a thread so everyone knew so thought id do it. Nagge on the forum has said he can feel a definite improvement.

guys, i had the same problem, but i MAY have resolved it, i'm definitely getting better feedback than when i first started playing.
"
press your guide button(big silver "X" on controller)in your system blade go to "settings", then "profile", scroll down to "Game Defaults" and press "General", at the bottom there is an option for "Controller Sensitivity", mine was set at Low sensitivity, i changed it to "High" and the FF was much better.

all this can be done without quitting the game. hope this works for you.

** EDIT **

May be worth restarting the console once the change is done so you know its picked up.
Same problem for me DChaps, and the fix did not work.

That said I am loving the game it has that PC sim feel to it. I'm having a great time just driving around learning the tracks in practice mode.

I'm really digging the game so far. As I've noted previously, frame rate issues and I don't get along at all. That being said, I carried a lot of concern into opening the game for that reason. Thankfully, i've not been put off by frame rate issues at all.. I went in expecting an issue and havent found anything that strikes me as an issue.

A few questions:

1. Do we really need to unlock the car classes offline in career mode in order to use them online?

2. I joined a quick online race last night and my car was freaking out. It was like 5 times faster than any other car on the track and all of the controls appeared to be 100 times more sensitive. This may explain why looking at the leaderboards yesterday I saw Isles with a lap time like 30 seconds faster than anyone else? Has anyone else seen this?

3. Braking. As odd as this may sound, i'm having a hard time getting a feel for the braking. I know the braking system is one of the areas the sim guys are praising about this game. If someone could shed a little light on this for me i'd appreciate it as I need to re-wire in my mind what a proper braking system should feel like. For example, in Forza I knew when I locked up my brakes, in RP i'm having a hard time distinguish how much brake i'm applying and at what point i've locked them up. If it matters, i'm using the game pad for driving.

Thanks in advance.

I think I was reading the thread in OS where they were saying the online leaderboard times are tainted because you can just plow through a chicane cutting the corners and only get a warning with no effect on your fastest lap time. I suppose on some tracks that can get you 10-20 seconds.

Obviously that wouldn't explain your hyper-car for that race though.

I tried to read through this as much as I could, but finally had to post the question........

Do I need to go buy this? I have not turned on my xbox to play on live, or anything for that matter, except a few times since World at Crap came out (still love COD4) I need something to play and get my fix and racing games always give me that it seems. I read a few posts with mixed reviews and just needed to be blunt and ask the damn question.........is it worth the 60 bucks? I love sim games (GTR Rfactor etc..), hate too much tuning, and love to rub fenders.

Terry probably knows me best when it comes to racers.......is it for me?

Depends on if you're totally satisfied with your PC sims currently. If you have no itch to play something else, then it may not be worth it. However, it's not 60 bucks. It's $39.99 retail. I think it's worth that anyway. It's not as good looking as GTR2 or rFactor or Race 07 in hi-res on the PC, but it's a hell of a fine console sim experience.

As for the earlier question on how you can tell when you're locking up your brakes...you can actually raise the "tire sound" a little, or drop the engine sound a bit and hear it more distinctly. I had to, because the only way I knew at first was when the wheel went a little sloppy and my car stopped turning when I was setting up for a corner entry.

One of the game's hints even recommended doing the above, and it helped quite a bit. Even their hints make sense haha.

I was racing last night in the career on Professional and just had a huge grin on my face. In the Formula BMW's, I was just racing along in a little single file line, running about 5th. I was able to beat one car to the corner entry and move into 4th, and then pick off the other ones one by one at appropriate passing zones. They didn't brake too early or go too slow...it just took good racing to get by them. I went wheel to wheel down the straights and around doglegs with them. I never got plowed or hit by them. It was amazing, especially for a console.

I think it's worth every penny.

And yeah...I noticed that nyisles lap time at one of the tracks was like 15 or 20 seconds faster than me. I meant to ask him what cheat he used

Question for Terry or anyone else who also has Race 07 for PC.....

Are the difficulty levels similiar? Semi-Pro on the PC version is PERFECT for me. Is Semi-Pro in Race 360 the same? Also, I love the way the AI racing me offline. They almost seem "human" :) They will sometimes not get out of your way and race you hard and sometimes they will let you pass. Not "robotic" at all! Best opponent racing AI I have ever seen, IMO. Hopefully that aspect transferred over to the console game.

I can tell my brakes are locking when I drive off of the track instead of making the turn.

FIFA: I'd reiterate what Terry said either here or n the poker night thread from Wednesday in that messing with setups before you have a great handle on the car and the circuit and really know where you are losing time is probably not a great idea. The game seems to have good basic setups for each car on each track.

Also, with this game's controller options, i'd also suggest tweaking those considerably before getting too deep into that slider hell that setup adjusting can become.

Already I've messed with L-stick sensitivity and dead zone, as well as turning my Throttle sensitivity down by half to 25% to increase how much I have to move it to get to 100% throttle. This adkistment has made a huge difference to my throttle control (I'd assume that at the default 50% the throttle goes to wide open when I've pulled it halfway). I'm sure to do the same for my brake trigger as well.

These controller settings are so nice to have and seem to make real differences. I don't know when I'll find that sweet spot, but tweaking that stuff is having more and better effects for me than I would likey find by changing the car setups at least in these early stages with the game.
