Anyone tried the game with the Dual Shock 3? I noticed they have an option to turn rumble on and off.

Yes...but to tell you the truth, I don't remember noticing if it rumbled or not. LOL. I'll let ya know tonight.

Diablo25 wrote:Yes. Its called pitch callout or something in the display menu. There is simple, full and off. I usually go with ALL pitching aids off and use CLASSIC pitching. Meter pitching is of but I like the classic model because it relies on the pitcher's ability more than my ability to time the meter.
How does classic pithing work? I always liked High Heats Pitching interface because it was more about the pitchers ability (or whether he was "on" or "off" that day) opposed to how good the gamer is at a little mini-game. I think the pitching meter is fine in this game. There were times when I had trouble throwing strikes even on Veteran, but I would love to try the old High Heat model again.
With Classic - you choose your pitch, aim where you would LIKE it to go, and then hit X to pitch. If the pitcher is tired he may miss the spot in or out, etc. There is no meter. Guys who struggle with control will miss spots and inevitably get hit. It is not exactly like High Heat (which I loved) but its very similar. Also, if you really want to juice the pitch...which sacrifices some accuracy, then just hold in the X button longer. Last night if I aimed and just tapped the X button to pitch Beckett was hitting spots and touching 93 or so. By holding in the X button longer he would hit 96/97...but lose some control. Works the same for all of the other pitches. Try it, you'll like it.

I am playing with the classic scheme, it's just seem more natural to me. Just wanted to add that the commentary is the best in any sports game today.

I use a DS3 and it's hard not to notice the rumble. You may have had it turned off DB.

Helton up to the plate, 2 out, men on 2nd and 3rd. The controller starts pulsing in my hands as if my heart starts to beat harder and harder.

Done very much in the same way as the Tiger pressure shot or whatever it's called, but seems to be better suited for the baseball game.

Never really cared for it in golf, but it really adds to the experience the way it was done here IMO.

I know I had it on...I just don't remember feeling it. It is probably the same as the PS2 version of 07 which is what I was playing up until a few weeks ago, so I didn't notice the difference.

Okay, the vibrate works. LOL.

But I just ended a game with a huge bug. Remember a few years ago when you'd throw to bases in MVP and the CPU would forget to tag? Well, it happens in 08 as well. Tie game in the 6th inning (extras)...one out, grounder to first, I throw home to cut down Ortiz at the plate by 5 steps. However, he is safe somehow. What? Oh sh*t that better not be in the real game, that's all I know.

Ouch. That's bad. There's been a host of reported bugs by OS posters. Hopefully this is an old demo build.

Thankfully, I've yet to encounter any bugs.

To those who have used the classic scheme in the past, do you find it pretty "true" in the sense that there don't seem to be too many random, arbitrary misses? I ask this only because i used it today for the first time ever and really enjoyed the flow of the game and feel of the scheme but there were times where Beckett just seemed to miss his spot BADLY and obviously in a three inning demo we're not talking about missing because he's tired. Now i realize guys miss their spots in real life so it wasn't a huge deal, i'm more asking those who have a much larger sample size to give me their thoughts compared to metered pitching. Thanks.

I have two things to say....WOW and HOLY s***! I have a feeling this game may own me. I have not REALLY played a baseball title since MVP05. I mean sure I bought the NCAA game and I rented 2k last year, but I didn't play them like MVP. I played multiple seasons etc.... I am VERY excited for Road to The Show, looks so damn fun, like living a dream! I think what sold it to me was the video of it and seeing the second baseman (my favorite position in school).

Anyhow I am floored by the demo. I am pretty rusty right now, I am lacking in the control department LOL. When DB said things are like MVP doesn't help me, its been awhile since I played that. Oh and I really haven't looked at the settings for the controller either as I just want to play :)

If anyone is interested, I would like it if anyone would want to go online and just mess around playing a few games and helping me with the little things of the game control wise and feature wise. That is if the manual is any good then I hope to get something from it.

So here is one ecstatic "NOOB" that can't wait for March 3rd!

Demo looks amazing... the one thing that still bothers me a bit about The Show is that I'm often unable to make my fielders hurry a throw even when it's appropriate. They're often locked into a lackadaisical animation that drives me a little nuts.

Preload your throws and they will get rid of it in a hurry. I agree, there are some instances where you get a casual animation no matter what.

I was thinking about using it towards ps3, but now I am wondering if I should just pickup a PSP instead, just to get the show for psp.

For those of you who had the show on psp last year, did you enjoy it more than the ps2 or ps3 versions?
Actually I enjoyed it more that the PS2 version(no PS3 yet). Its hard to believe that they can pack all of that game into a 2G UMD. It has different player stances and all the commentary as its big brother PS2.

Where is the setting to use the Classic pitching mode?

There isn't a pitching meter in Classic, right?

Finally played this demo.. I'm VERY impressed with the gameplay, which is what matters - the pitcher/batter interface is quite impressive. LOVE the battle fouling off pitches.

Graphics are great, but I still give the nod to MLB 2k. That game is absolutely beautiful, but I'm not sure it will come close to The Show's gameplay.

I think it looks a lot better then last year but I'm not seeing the major jumps in graphics everyone else is reporting. Perhaps the game is just too bright on my projector and that is what is making everything look so bright and colorful (i.e. carton like)

However the game play feels even better, I must have played 15 demo games already and each is different. I saw a play last night I watch over and over wishing I could share it with people. Someone was trying to stretch out a double and the throw came in ahead of the runner but was way off line and then the SS dove at the runner who was sliding head first and who just beat the tag. It looked incredible!

That's how I felt when I played the demo. It looks better than last year but nothing earth shattering. The one thing I don't like about this years pitching meter is when you have someone on the bases. It's crazy fast and causes you to miss your target a lot easier.

IMO they should have added the super fast pitching meter for pressure cooker situations not just when there's someone on the bases.

How much playtime of a DEMO constitutes as a 'problem'?

I've barely touched anything else since this sucker hit. I play 3 innings; re-start and play again. Can't get enough.

The only downside is that it will take away from the exuberant 6-year-old-like joy of the actual games arrival.

I expected a "WOW" factor like MLB 2k7 did for me last year. I mean, they are nice, just not as great as I was expected.

Have you guys played them back to back though? Play 07 for a bit, play 08, then go back to 07. The difference is really significant.

I have, because MLB07 is in my PS3 ATM. Like others have said MLB08 looks better than '07 but not at the point where i'm about to say those are the best graphics eva. The biggest improvement for The Show is textured grass this year whereas player uni's still lack proper textures. They still look pressed on whereas they look more natural in MLB2K.

To it's credit MLB2K7 and now 2K8 showcase some pretty nice graphics as well. For some reason I prefer the player models in MLB2K over The Show. Whereas The Show has better more natural looking animations. Stadiums IMO are a toss up because they look solid in both games.

I think where we all agree is that 2K needs to tone down the flapping jerseys. It was cool last year but baseball isn't played under hurricane conditions. ;)
