I'll drive the 79's anywhere and be happy about it. The track could run through Satan's throne room and I'd still fly through it gleefully.

I found the Montreal 79 track to be very good and a lot of fun. And of course you know my preference for Watkins Glen and Brands Hatch.

Speaking of which, which Glen is it?

In the "stand alone", I think it is, I show Glen F1, Glen F1 V2, and Nascar versions...?

Glen F1, full course including The Boot, without the chicane at the end of the backstraight. I think that's Glen F1. Definitely not the NASCAR course, as that doesn't include The Boot.

Take care,

OK so it's the chicane-less version. Thanks.

But to give the rest of us a chance Terry and Adam have to use the chicane anyway. :P

These babies look like a fun, diversional mod for rFactor Poker Nights:

This mod was recently updated, and the mod quickly earned Hall of Fame status. You know we'd bang sheet metal with these pigs!

While I haven't downlaoded the new update, the last one was pretty darn good. I say we give these a roll for fun on our next poker night.

I realised tonight that when you start up GP 79 Unrestricted, you own a Williams without having to buy another car. This was true of the first release too, of course, but I'd managed to forget all about it. Had I remembered, I'd never have bought that bloody Alfa Romeo I was in last night.

I gave the Alfa another shot at the O-Ring, figuring the clutch trouble I had last night must have slowed me, and it had done but not by very much. I could barely break 1:42 even when I felt like I was hooking everything up. Returning to the spinner to spend my remaining credits on a Fittipaldi or an Ensign or something terrible like that, I happened to spot the Williams and select the FW07 for accuracy. It took me 3 laps to whittle a full 6 seconds off my best time in the Alfa.

I love that. I love how different they are, and that I can't get the Alfa to within 6 seconds of the Williams on one lap of a relatively straightforward racetrack. I don't for a second believe the gap between the two cars is really that great, but I'm really struck by how I can't jump from car to car and be competitive with them all as I might be on a console game, and how the Williams responds to my way of driving while the Alfa only highlights every flaw and weakness in my technique.

This rFactor business is going to take some beating, isn't it?

Fellas:

If you ever want to circumvent bankroll limitations in rFactor, enter the Monitor (main pit screen) portion of an offline race with a mod for which you want a ton of dough and type this code into the chat window:

ISI_BABYFACTORY

Then exit that race. You'll see about $50 billion flow into your account for that mod, and you'll own every car in that mod.

Hell, no one plays the offline career mode in rFactor, do they? I didn't think so. This way you can choose from any of the wonderful cars in these mods without the tedium of the offline career mode.

Tip: Don't forget the underscore in the code. That's not a dash or a space; it's an underscore between the two words.

Take care,
PK

Guys, there is a new patch to replace the one that was messed up. Should I grab it? And if I do, will I be able to race with everyone still if they don't have it?

I would like to update because R-Factor Central has the 79's running on their championship server for 2 weeks. I could race them all day and night.

Piggy:

I haven't updated, and I don't know of anyone here who is updating. I don't believe you can race with anyone who is still using 1.250 -- all of us -- if you move to the new patch.

I haven't read a compelling reason to update other than the new patch loads the game faster -- big whoop. And I've read too many horror stories about mods being incompatible with the patch, patch problems, etc.

Take care,

There's a particular version of Fuji I've been waiting for, and the new release isn't it. However...it's a version of the new Fuji, and I do want one of those, so thanks for the heads up Rod.

Piggy, don't update. Don't do it. Just...no. We're all still on 1.250, as PK says, and I'm another one with no intention of updating.

Yeah, Piggy, I just want to reinforce that I'm not trying to be an anachronistic grump regarding this update. But I don't see this patch as a significant improvement in the game, like 1.150 to 1.250.

As I said, I haven't read any compelling reason in PC sim forums to "upgrade," and I've read some convincing reasons to stick with 1.250.

Take care,

EA Sports Signs Lewis Hamilton for a videogame. What's puzzling here is that Sony supposedly did not renew it's contract with Formula 1, hence that's why they released F1 Championship Edition this year. It would be cool if EA did decide to release another round of F1 games. Let's hope this is the case.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=30116

British Formula 1 star rumoured to front new EA titles next year

"Britain's Formula One rookie Lewis Hamilton, who almost won the championship with McLaren in his debut season this year, has been snapped up to front a new videogame title by EA Sports.

That's according to a report in UK tabloid The Sun, which reports the deal as worth an estimated GBP 5 million to Hamilton.

There is currently no indication that EA's investment will result in a specific F1 title however, as Sony currently holds the FIA license for its long-standing racing series, although the report does cite "Xbox and PlayStations" as the platforms."

2.0.1 version of Grand Prix 79 released Nov. 1:

We probably all should get it to avoid online mismatches.

I've patched it last night - my rFactor froze loading the spinner on the first startup after patching but has ran fine since then, so that's likely just coincidence. It's worth announcing the patch in the next Poker Night thread too, to make sure everyone got up to speed.

I had another play about last night with the GP '79 cars, and the Ligier is just so nice. Anyone having difficulty getting to grips with the mod should have a go with that car - it's safe and stable to drive with just a little sliver of understeer mid-corner, fast enough to run somewhere near the front of the pack and gives probably the best shot of any quick car in the mod at staying on the racetrack for a race distance.

Hey fellas has anyone heard of or seen track and environment mods etc. for Richard Burns Rally? I know the games source code or SDK was released to the public so I was wondering if there are any new tracks or environments available?

As far as I've seen there are none. All I've found are new cars.
