No...it's out on Blu-Ray. I have it.
Right; that was a typo by WCO. He meant to say it was only on DVD and Blu-Ray, in response to 10spro's false statement that at his local store the Blu-Ray versions were sold out but there were plenty copies of the HD-DVD version.

So, 10spro was mistaken, and in trying to correct him, WCO made an error in typing.

So, to sum up, Casino Royale is only available on DVD and Blu-Ray, there is no HD-DVD version of that movie, so there is no way to discern the relative popularity of the two formats based on that movie's sales.

Maybe someone can explain to me how the PS2 can continue to outsell the 360 and the PS3 and yet software sales on the PS2 are not anywhere close to the next gen consoles?? Who is buying the PS2 and what games are they getting to use with it?? Is Sony making bunches of money on the PS2? Is anyone making (serious) money developing for the PS2? Are second hand sales of the PS2 and PS2 games keeping EB/Gamestop in the green??

I know that the PS2 is the home for games that publishers like EA are not willing to spend the cash to develop for on the next gen machines (Arena football, NCAA baseball) and that games like Madden will continue to make money on the PS2, but what is the deal. There are a ton of PS2's out there - what are selling as far as software? Other than God Of War 2, it does not seem like that many big games are being made for the PS2, but it continues to sell like hotcakes. I find it interesting, but I can't figure out who are buying them.

Maybe new PS2 owners are buying a God of War 2, Guitar Hero, MLB 07 or some other big title, and then buying a ton of used games at EB/Gamestop for cheap?

That's what I meant, DVD and Blu-Ray, not HD-DVD.

Well Crackdown was the top title in February but it was in the 6-figures.

GOW2 sold a million preorders so that should make PS2 game sales look a bit better for March.

But I see a lot of MLB2K commercials so that should show well for X360 in March.

Replacements. I replaced my PS2 4 times during it's lifespan.

I bought 3.

Another reason the PS2 is outselling them is the same reason The Wii is out selling them...$$$$...Many parents will not spend that kind of money on a gaming console. They cant afford it.

Another title in a series that has traditionally been a Sony exclusive (DMC4) to grace the 360. I suppose with Capcom's early successes with Dead Rising and Lost Planet the writing was on the wall for this one.

http://ir.capcom.co.jp/english/news/html/e070320.html

It's more and more apparent that console monogamy will be less a factor in this generation as studios try to maximize profits by making titles available for both major players.

It still surprises me that Sony didn't take the opportunity to move GdOW development to the PS3 in order to leverage one of their more powerful franchises. OTOH, there is a PS2 marketplace that far exceeds the installed PS3 base.

God of War took several years to make. So they probably planned to squeeze some more life out of that PS2 code before moving on.

The first game sold well and got good reviews but the sequel comes with more hype so it should do better.

It by itself isn't going to sell systems. But as part of a catalog of games, it could.

DMC is a loss but the first game had the most impact while the sequels appeared repetitive to many, especially since the gameplay was similar to Onimusha.

I think there will be much greater anticipation for Heavenly Sword and GOW3, which are similar action hack-and-slash games. Also Wardevil too, although that probably isn't an exclusive.

Some magazine apparently has an exclusive that the rumored black Xbox 360 is coming out -- with a 120 gig hard drive and HDMI port for $479.

Assuming you believe Joystiq and Game Informer, it's not an April Fool's joke.

In a nutshell:

Black in color
HDMI-enabled w/ HDMI cable
120 gig HD
Released in late April
$479

Why no built-in HD-DVD?

Why no built-in WiFi?

Does this use the rumored 65nm chips?

Yeah, the new Xbox...yawwwn. If they built in wifi and the HD drive, I'd cave and get one, but since I have all of the stuff (sans the HDMI and 120gb drive), who cares? I guess it's good for people who haven't gotten a 360, but it's not really a compelling reason to shell out another couple hundred after the previous 360 is sold.

The HD will sell separately and thats all I need at this point. The good news is the core is more then likely going away and the premium will drop it's price as well.

That's not what the online sites said. They said they will discontinue the Premium (price drop, correct)...but the Core will still remain a viable part of their business. Just because the HD gets bigger doesn't mean they get rid of the lower segment...in fact, since the price difference is so huge with the 80 dollar hike, I bet a lot of people will get the core and just add the 20gb HD and be done with it. MS would be dumb to get rid of it.

Wait a second, let me make sure I have this right--MS is introducing this uber-360 at $479, discontinuing the current $399 Premium, and leaving the $299 Core in the marketplace? Maybe it's just me, but that seems dumb.

You'll have to excuse me if this isn't the right thread for this- but I'm wondering what you guys think I should do in this case.

My 360, under EB trade-in warranty is having problems detecting the component cables, leaving me with sound but with no video. While it really forces me to concentrate on the surround sound to figure out where my player is, I just find it too difficult in the end. :)

My question I guess is whether I should put down another $50 for another trade in warranty (you get a new console one time) or just use the Microsoft warranty (which is a year now I believe). I can live with waiting a few weeks for a repair if necessary, but just wondered what you guys recommended based on your experiences. Thanks a lot.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you have to change from cable or satellite if you want the IPTV channels?

And the only IPTV provider in the country is AT&T, which is just in the process of rolling out their Uverse service?
