Yeah, I wasn't even going to bring that up, because it's not like he helped them win a World Series or anything during his tenure, but still. Oh how the Cardinal fans love Big Mac.
I'll take mud, pine tar or spit over someone sticking a needle in their arse anyday.
Your a real fan of the game. If it was pine tar, doesn't every staff have a pitcher or two that uses mud, spit, pine tar to get an edge over the batters? This is nothing new. Anyhow I'll take the word of the men that called the game.
Steve Palermo, one of baseball's umpire supervisors, said plate ump Alfonso Marquez noticed the dirt and asked Rogers to clean up. Palermo brushed off thoughts of any nefarious plot.
"Dirt is not a foreign substance," Palermo said. "That's what we play on. That's the playing surface."
Do you see me defending Mark McGwire? A resounding HELL NO! He's a cheater just like Bonds, Palmeiro, and Sosa. Yes, I fell for the magical seasson of McGwire and Sosa just like many of us did. And I'm pissed I did. I have no respect for McGwire, nor do I believe he should be in the H.O.F.
Sorry, like the rest of you, I just don't condone cheating. According to the radio guys, this isn't the first time this "dirt" has been seen on his hands during the playoffs. Looking back, it was also on him during the Divsion Series and the League Championship Series! But, lets talk about how wonderful a pitcher he is.
Regardless of what it was, he cleaned it off and pitched a masterful game long after whatever it was was gone. As a Cardinals fan, I don't have a problem with what Rogers did. Yeah, he might have cheated in the first inning...yeah, he acted like a prick all night on the mound, but at the end of the day, the Cardinals had ZERO offense last night.
I still don't underestand why LaRussa is sticking with Preston Wilson, when at the very least Duncan is somewhat hot right now.
I like where we are right now. 1-1 coming out of Detroit with Carpenter and Suppan going the next two. I guess Reyes will start game 5 and hopefully the confidence he had in game 1 will carry over with him. If the series goes beyond 5 games, all bets are off as I think a longer series definitely favors the Tigers.

Wow...at least you're going down with class. I had thought better of Cardinal fans previously.
You have to be joking right? Never know with you useless banter and.. usually wastless posts. The idiot was caught on camera, talked about when he left the game and held on to his glove as he shaked hands and McCarver even commented on how odd that was. Then he gives 3 different answers about the incident. He's an asshole and a cheating one at that. Bring up Big Mac, I'm talking about NOW in the biggest stage of baseball... why do something like this?
..and don't give me the lame - "I had thought better of Cardinal fans previously" comment - it's old. In fact, I could give two shits of what you think of me or ANY Cardinal fans. I am so sick of CHEATING in professional sports that it makes me sick.
Couldn't have said it better Mizzou. Does anyone remember a couple years back when Julian Tavarez was caught with pine tar on the bill of his cap? If I'm not mistaken, he was thrown out and suspended. It's too late for Rogers to see any punishment, but he damn well deserved to be thrown out last night. I do blame LaRussa somewhat as he let his relationship with Leyland stand in the way of doing what he should have done.
Back to the series at hand. LaRussa needs to forget about his love of playing veterans for the sake of big game experience. The fact is, Wilson should not be starting, and Juan Encarnacion should also be sat down. Their bats have cooled significantly. I'd love to see Duncan starting two of three games in St. Louis, in addition to Taguchi or Spiezio in the lineup. We need some more contact hitters.

Not this one. I never liked him before he hit 70, or after that.
I think LaRussa's friendship with Leyland got in the way of last nights game. It was out of character for Tony not to question the substance and have the umps inspect Rogers' hand, especially after his hitters were reporting the ball doing funny things. Sure, Rogers pitched awesome after the 1st, but it would have only resulted in something positive for the Cardinals if Tony had him inspected by the umps. Either Rogers IS caught with pinetar and removed from the World Series, or it was just dirt and perhaps it gets into Rogers' head and he doesn't pitch as well. I think the latter is what Tony would be worried about, with his friendship with Leyland. He didn't want to pull a move like that. If it was anyone else in the opposing dugout though, Tony would have been out there after the first batter reported something odd.

Does St. Louis have anyone to replace Encarnacion? He is totally clueless up at the plate, don't think he could hit one off of a tee.
Pudge is terrible also. Thought Leyland would have had him bunt with a man on late in the game. Ended up hitting into a DP in the 7th.
Yep, we either find out he's cheating or it's something else and legal. Either way, it keeps the integrity of the game AND the World Series intact.
I agree with the relationship with LaRussa and Leyland.. too bad. Although I think Leyland probably talked to Rogers behind closed doors.
Anyhow, it's time to move on to Game 3. I agree about Encarnacion - is that guy the most nonchalant fielder in the game? I guess you could put Taguchi or Wilson in his place (Wilson is like 5-5 with 2hrs against Bonderman) and also play Duncan in LF - although I would put him in RF and Taguchi or Wilson in LF. We have Carp and Soupy though.. so these games are definitly winnable!!
