Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
For me, personally, of the games I'm getting for my XB1 today--Already played AC4 and Madden to death on PS4. Dead Rising 3 looks like it will be fun, but it's not "next-genny" other than the sheer amount of zombies on screen. Forza I'll be playing with a controller because I can't get the wheel. That doesn't get me amped up. Ryse has gotten HIDEOUS reviews, but I'm going to get it anyway because in some cases I enjoy those games that reviewers seem to hate. Battlefield 4...isn't really my thing, I got it because my teenage son likes those online shooters.
So for me, all of my hype was seeing AC4 in Next-Gen glory, and that's been satisfied. I'm sure I'll dig Forza and DR3 and Ryse, but yeah--I don't have nearly the same "OMG OMG OMG can't wait!!!" stuff that I had last Thursday night waiting for the clock to strike midnight. Only other midnight release I ever did was for the Dreamcast in '99.

You really need to sign up for My UPS. Allows you to just have them hold it at the facility and then you can get it whenever you have time. They open at 8am. That way:RobVarak wrote:Talk to my UPS guy, who is apparently driving aimlessly around town instead of delivering this damn thing pronto!Inuyasha wrote:Well people, where are those XBO impressions? 1. You can get it much earlier
2. You don't have a 500 dollar console sitting in front of your house to be jacked by thieves who know it's Xbox release day
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
My console is downloading the 500 MB update at the moment. AT the rate it's going, should be about 22-25 minutes total.
I will say I was pleasantly surprised at the controller. I'd feared the worst, especially over the lamented bumpers, but I don't think I'll have a problem with them. As has been pointed out, the inner portions are stiff hinges, but the outmost part of the switch are very clicky and receptive, and I feel like the intention was so you can bump them with the metacarpal on your index finger. In fact, it's easier to click them with out removing your finger from the trigger, at least if you've somewhat bigger hands.
I don't have time to dabble with the system much at the moment, as work calls. And I'm also short of any games, being I just decided to jump on the purchase this week when Amazon released more orders.
But I'll look to get a game or two today and report back in as time allows.
Edit: Well, that stinks. Got to about 80% and it reported 'There was a problem with the update' and has to retry from scratch. Boo.

I was pretty anxious an hour ago when UPS tracking showed it had been delivered "Front door" 20 minutes prior.dbdynsty25 wrote:2. You don't have a 500 dollar console sitting in front of your house to be jacked by thieves who know it's Xbox release day
Had UPS on the phone and was starting an investigation when the guy walks from around the block with a dolly and some boxes.
Still, should not have scanned it as delivered until he got it to the door.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Here's what I've gathered so far from reading user impressions about the X1:
- The majority of people absolutely love the UI, and there's a small minority that find it a bit confusing and overwhelming.
- The controller is great, the controller is a step back from the 360, the controller is a slight improvement, the controller is a significant upgrade from the 360......all over board reviews regarding the controller.
- The Kinect feature works 90 percent of the time.
- Ryse looks beautiful, but is a little repetitive.
- The third party games aren't as nice as the PS4 games, but it's very slight and hardly noticeable.

I had read a few people online commenting about getting stuck on 79%. Good luck with your next attempt!GameSeven wrote: Edit: Well, that stinks. Got to about 80% and it reported 'There was a problem with the update' and has to retry from scratch. Boo.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Well, update's done... however, then I thought I was stuck on a green logo screen for about 3 minutes without any indication I should be waiting. However, as I type this, it moves to a time zone config screen... off to dabble...
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Enjoy the new toy boys and girls. Launch time is always fun. Even though my excitement was last week, I enjoy seeing you guys amped for the release of the Xbone to finally get it in hand and tinker with it.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
From where I'm sitting, I don't find this surprising in the least. Definitely not very weird. Because the PS4 appeared a week before the Xbone, for you guys the big itch has been scratched. If it were the other way around, I would guess you'd be feeling exactly the same way about the PS4 sitting at the UPS.dbdynsty25 wrote:Isn't that weird? Like I know my X1 is sitting at the UPS depot right now waiting for me to pick it up, and I'm not just itching to get out of work (at least no more than any other Friday). Maybe it's because I know what next gen looks like already with the PS4...that's about the only reason I can think of.TCrouch wrote:I only did the midnight release with the PS4--I'm not going to get around to trying the XBO until after work. Picking it up at lunch, but with the install and updating stuff, I'm sure I won't get to it until after 4PM PT.
Just not nearly as hyped for it as I was to try the PS4, which is a complete 180 for me.
If the Xbone didn't come out for another month or two, my guess is you'd be more excited about it because you'd have become more accustomed to the PS4 by then and ready for another new experience. But as it is, you guys have barely scratched the surface of all the shiny shiny new new the PS4 has to offer and you know it has lots more to give before you're used to it.
Just my 2¢ but I think it's normal human psychology. Personally I'm a little bummed only because I am committed to Xbone versions of the EA Sports games, mostly due to inertia but also because I can get the trade in ofer for Madden and keep my ultimate team stuff for FIFA. And now everyone else has defaulted to the PS4 versions of those games simply because the Sony machine was first out of the gate. With NBA 2K, maybe folks will switch over to Xbone if the online works better, but I doubt it will, and also online isn't anyone's primary impetus for the NBA 2K games, certainly not enough of one for people to buy the game twice.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I wish the TV part was able to be wireless. I have Uverse and have the DVR under my couch and use the wireless receivers in 2 spots in my house. My XBONE is on the other side of the room.
Any ideas?

Naw, this isn't true, Zep! A lot of folks chimed in with their Xbox loyalty in this thread when you first expressed your concern over this (Rob, Macca, etc), and some of us (like me) were only going to get the Ps4 (at least at first, anyway)Zeppo wrote:And now everyone else has defaulted to the PS4 versions of those games simply because the Sony machine was first out of the gate.
I actually don't think there are too many people in the category you mention, folks who will have both systems at launch that have committed to playing only on the PS4. Certainly not 'everyone.'
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
My problem is the big games I was excited for that were XBO exclusives (Ryse, DR3 and Forza) reviewed like crap, are somewhat more of the same, or I have to play with a controller, respectively. Had I waited to play AC4 and Madden, then sure, I'd probably be more excited.
But I was bummed that my wheel was essentially rendered obsolete by the XBO, but PS4 uses it fine. That, for a guy who loves racing games, means all my racing games will go to the PS4 first. I WAS going to get the XBO wheel, but why give them more $$ when they already charged more for everything and shafted me on my $900 wheel already. Screw that, I'll race on PS4.
Plus the more I read about the PS4's advantage hardware-wise--THAT'S what made me go get one to begin with. I have had zero problems with the graphics of the PS4 games, but if developers start programming for the PS4 and then porting to XBO, chances are we see the same 360-to-PS3 issues this past generation had.
I don't care which one came out first, other than the AC4 and Madden examples for me. I care about the other stuff I've seen in the weeks leading up to release, but I'll keep both regardless. That being said...
....the setup of my XBO was a breeze. Connected, downloaded the update in less than 2 minutes, installed, and I was up and running within 10 total. It started that weird intro video that I skipped, and started the install for Ryse. I think it installed for maybe 2 or 3 minutes before I could launch the game--at which point it was still installing, so you don't have to completely finish game installs to start (this we already knew--what I didn't know is I'd be playing in minutes).
Also, the voice commands for the UI were flawless for me at lunch. Xbox Snap, Go to, Go Home---everything worked without having to repeat myself once. So there's that.

That's..informative.Spooky wrote:Got it. Played it. WAY to much aliasing.
What game? Just the system itself? That was a weird post, Spook--almost no way to understand what you're talking about, other than you obviously saw some jaggies somewhere. Whether that was the UI, or a particular game, or what...no idea.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Sorry TC. Was just being a sarcastic idiot. I played about 30 minutes of CoD online which I am pretty familiar with from the 360. I thought the One version was a fairly significant upgrade visually. In other words...it looked fantastic to my eyes. Honestly felt close to going from SD to HD. That's a bit if an exaggeration but I was shocked at how much crisper and cleaner it looked. Didn't expect that much of an upgrade to be honest.TCrouch wrote:That's..informative.Spooky wrote:Got it. Played it. WAY to much aliasing.

It's just SO funny to me all this talk about worse aliasing and stuff that 99% of people will never notice, including me.
