Gridless - manual caddy, no putt preview

I did a history search and saw that we had done this. We all agreed to use Paul Casey in the same event, so I'm wondering if that might have had some bearing on it. The majority didn't like it, but we had one in favor and one neutral. I joined others in thinking it was too precise.Danimal wrote:We played a weekly or daily with it and people hated it.
I'll go with Gridless and manual caddy for tonight. I'll enable Boost Pins for this one with the understanding that they are enabled for XP multiplier use only. It's obvious that we have a lot of guys who are still trying to build XP, and aren't playing that much out of the scope of DSP events, so this should help them out a lot.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
Seems that you're on a roll for the dailies JC. Double bogey on the last hole to finish at -7. I should remember that sand trap on the right. Got caught before and got me again where it took me 2 shots to get out of it.
Besides allowing XP boost pins for those folks that haven't had a chance to build up their CAG's, how about having a daily tourney where we all shoot from the red, so that maybe 90% of the par 4's are drivable? That would allow the lesser player to reach the fairways more often and perhaps encourage some to play more?
Or playing a total of two dailes a day at different destinations with only 9 holes each tourney. Something different, something to keep the interest going for the guys that are still at the early stages of their careeer.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
The active participants is certainly dropping.
Like I said earlier there is a difference between not winning and feeling you don't have a chance and I think the number of players participating is showing that. Even if I got over my putting problems I don't ever see myself putting up -14 or better so it's amazing to me that some of you guys can do that, major props.
I actually went out on Sunday and shot a 79 in real golf and then came home and shot and 80+ round in Tiger Woods, I knew then I will never be that good at this game.
Lessons learned for sure this time out and if I am so bold to run this again next year I'll try and division it or something.
Right now I worry if we'll even have 16 people for the end of year match play tournament.

No doubt and we all know who they are. My suggestions was directed at the not so sure player when he lurks around, looks at the scores and may shy away from a daily never mind the weekly. After all we have 25 dudes in the club, and only 5-6 guys playing the dailies lately.Wilk5280 wrote:I don't know, man. Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I think the settings are good where they are. My participation has nothing to do with whether or not I am able to compete with the top scores. I actually had my most fun round of TW13 yet last week in the TPC Sawgrass Daily. I was -1 with two holes to play and ended up at +1, but it was super challenging and satisfying, and I really had to play strategically the whole time to keep close to par. It felt very realistic and my strengths and weaknesses in my current skills showed exactly where I expected them to. It almost makes we not want to up my XP any more than it is. I certainly would rather not be getting on the green of a par 4 from the tee. For me the fun is trying to play the course like I might in real life. I think the tournamnent difficulty, gridless greens, manual caddy, no putt preview is the perfect setting, although I am also fine with whatever.
I think we are just seeing the normal DSP drop off for a game. In fact, this one has lasted much longer than most, which is saying something given all the bugs and freezes. I may be completely off base on this, but I think there would be more participation if there was an easy way for everyone to see the daily scores and stats from the web as opposed to being in the game. Likewise, if it let you see all the dailys, instead of just the last two, that would be nice to get a historical perspective. The game just frustrates me because it clearly keeps a lot of great stats, but makes it pretty difficult to view them or even see them at all. For example, on the weeklys I have been using the Tie Breaker details stats that they show at the end of every round to manually track my round by round stats in Excel. I thought that maybe I would just start doing this manually for all of our dailys and post the results. Lo and behold, this info is never available anywhere else in the game, only after you complete your round. Therefore, the only time you can see everyones details on the round is right after you have completed it. If you are the first person to complete a round, there is no way to go back and view the Tie Breaker details for everyone else. I guess if I just timed it every day where I was the last person to submit for a round, I could then compile everyone's stats manually. However, then you have the issue of the game not correctly reporting the time left in the round so it would be a crapshoot anyway!

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
DChaps I am going to disagree on the normal DSP drop off being the sole cause only because I have spoken to several people privately who flat out told me they didn't have (or want) to put in the time needed to be remotely competitive.
I don't think time is the only factor in being able to compete. I put in plenty of time but I still suck, shot a +4 on the daily last night, but that is what people told me. It's not anyone's fault, it's just the way it is and what the game allows.

For the record, I would not have minded putting in more time in order to compete. What I wasn't interested in was putting in the time to produce unrealistic scores.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I have 3 reasons why I'm a bit frustrated and losing some interest in CC tournaments:Aristo wrote:For the record, I would not have minded putting in more time in order to compete. What I wasn't interested in was putting in the time to produce unrealistic scores.
1. I do NOT have the time necessary to improve my game to be remotely competitive with the tournament leaders. I normally only have time during the weeknights (after midnight, usually around 1:30 or 2:00am) to get my tournament rounds in with no time left for any other "practice" rounds.
2. I look at the leaderboard before each round and pretty much think to myself, "slim to no chance of me winning this tournament".
3. I also dislike seeing the very low and unrealistic scoring on Tournament mode. I'm beginning to think that I subconsciously sabotage my performance so I won't produce those low scores.

Hopefully, next year there will be some type of handicapping system available in the game for the administrators to use in CC tournaments.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
My reasons for lack of participation over the last few weeks:
1. I was busy as f*ck during April and early May, working in preparation for the Indianapolis 500.
2. I was in Indy for 17 days in May, working the Indianapolis 500.
3. That hiatus from TW 13 has put me woefully behind in skill points compared to nearly all of you cats.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I have decided that I will be skipping any future tournaments at Royal Birkdale. I hate this course and I hope they destroy it and rebuild it in a future version as it plays like a f***in fantasy course which I hate with a passion. The greens are beyond ridiculous as they do NOT roll true to what the grid is showing. I wish we had the option to play this without the grid so I could actually read the break.
Going to go ahead and play the Weekly and finish as fast as I can so I can play other events with courses that play like they are supposed to. Great scoring so far from Wilk, 10s, and JC.....you guys got me beat this week.

Thanks Divot, but it only took one good round. I never count you out of any tournament as you truly are the class to beat with a few guys like Ortho, Truth, Lead, JC etc right there with you.
I'm sorry, but I cannot get behind this thought process. Not for the life of me. I race Ultra Marathons and I have absolutely no chance at competing with the elites, let alone beating them. Hell, I'm several hours behind them. I guess I shouldn't even show up the starting line going forward.I look at the leaderboard before each round and pretty much think to myself, "slim to no chance of me winning this tournament".

C'mon get your ass over. You know that you can use a Pro if you want to right? Plus on some dailies, JC is allowing the XP boost points to get your CAG going. Even if it offline, play, play, play.pk500 wrote:My reasons for lack of participation over the last few weeks:

Not sure about that. In my book, you're right up there with them so give yourself more credit. And you're right about DM. Even though he may go through the motions, he may still pull a score that can easily take over my current 2nd spot which will be done by John when he finishes his round.Wilk5280 wrote:Thanks Divot, but it only took one good round. Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I agree with the thoughts on the greens at Royal Birkdale being otherworldly. There's no way they can have the abrupt undulations in them that we see in this game. Heck, the mower couldn't cut the greens without scalping them if they were really like this. I've been more than lucky in some of my scoring; it doesn't feel like a natural experience.
As to the low scoring we're seeing in Tournament difficulty; I think it's largely due to the ease in hitting the ball straight, particularly off the tee. They could have made the tracking a bit more sensitive than it is, IMO. The way the randomness element is incorporated bothers me a bit also. Dan pointed this out months ago, but the ball just seems to take a random jump to the left or right, and it isn't reflected in the swing feedback meter.
I want to see swingplane errors be translated into slices and hooks; they just seem to go left or right in this game. It just seems that the developers still don't have a firm grasp for what the Tournament difficulty player wants out of this game. It's scary to think about how much more time I'd sink in this game if it translated input errors more realistically and proportionally!
I'm hoping the next patch will give the game a much needed infusion. I'm having more frequent game freezes as time goes on... heck, I've already had three this week!? I sincerely hope the next patch alleviates at least some of this, but I have a hunch the problem is much more widespread and hard to pin down than EA Sports has the time or resources to pursue.

Comparing a real sport to a video game is kind of silly IMO. I put in 4-5 hours a week to work on my real golf game and I'm not even a single digit (yet), I'm not doing that for a video game.Wilk5280 wrote: I'm sorry, but I cannot get behind this thought process. Easy. Turn up the winds to at least Breezy, Tournament course conditions, no caddy or grids and pins on the hardest setting....Danimal wrote:You just shot a -46 for a tournament please tell me how I can make it play more realistic, I really want to know.DivotMaker wrote:You can make this game play as easy or as realistic as you wish.......Aristo wrote:For the record, I would not have minded putting in more time in order to compete. I also mentioned I was in a zone during that tournament. I am now struggling to break -20 at Birkdale through 3 rounds.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I've never set a tournament to have no winds, everything has been breezy or worse with gust and random on. As for tournament setup I thought that just effected greens. As for no green grids or caddies, sure explain to me how it is possible to read a green. In fact didn't you say much earlier in this thread it was not possible?
Like I said if someone can explain to us hacks how to read a green in this game with no aids on I am more then willing to turn it on or off eh you get what I mean.

It is not impossible to read greens without the grid. I would be glad to hop online with anyone and walk you through how I read them. Are you going to make many 30 footers? No, but you can get close and sometimes make them like putting real Golf. From 10' in, I am pretty deadly. Getting alot of practice in Career Mode and it is not as hard as you think and I am no longer winning CM tournaments by 15-20 shots, I am winning by 2-4 shots usually with AI set to Normal.....

I'm not saying put in 4 hours a week practice into a videogame. I'm saying I don't get the whole "since I probably won't win, I just won't play" mentality.Danimal wrote:Comparing a real sport to a video game is kind of silly IMO. Outside of a few weeks pretty much only 2 or 3 people have had a realistic shot at winning. IMO its still fun to compete and see how good you can do. Hell you never know, you might even be that blind squirrel that finds a nut every once on a while.
