I told you that you would like Brewer!
Rubba:
Buffalo usually plays a game per season in Roch, as the Amerks have been the Sabres' farm team forever. A very strong bond between Buffalo and Rochester, with a ton of Sabres' fans in Roch.
Take care,
PK

Actually this is only the seond time, two years ago was the first (versus NJ).pk500 wrote:

Some of it has to do with the Sabres new owner,Tom Golisano, who is from Rochester, lives in Rochester, and made his millions in Rochester (founder of Paychex); and as PK mentioned, the long affilation bewteen Rochester's AHL club and the Sabres.
Unfortunately, this may be the last NHL game in Rochester for a long time unless there's a huge walk-up crowd tonight. As of this morning only 7,000 seats had been sold, meaning there are between 4,000-5,000 left...not good.

Oh, and the seats are NHL priced: $77, $45, $22.
Well looks like you and Paul have a game to go to tonight. Get out and support those Sabres!!!jimd wrote:Actually this is only the seond time, two years ago was the first (versus NJ).pk500 wrote:

Negative. It's a 90-minute drive for me, and if I'm paying those prices to watch the Sabres, it's going to be in Buffalo, not in Rochester.tjung0831 wrote:Well looks like you and Paul have a game to go to tonight. Get out and support those Sabres!!!
Honestly, I'd rather drive the extra 45 minutes and see a game in Ottawa, although that's a much tougher ticket than Buffalo.
Take care,
PK

I went to the game two years ago and it was really cool seeing an NHL game at the small hockey barn here in Rochester. Couldn't go last night, wife is due any day now with baby #2 and feeling pretty miserable. I will make it over to Buffalo for 2 or 3 games at some point during the season.tjung0831 wrote: Well looks like you and Paul have a game to go to tonight. Get out and support those Sabres!!!

You and about 39 other people? Watched part of the game last night, and again I was appalled at the paucity of the crowd. There were maybe 7,000 people in that building.fightingcamel wrote:I went to the Carolina game last night.
I just don't get it. Very exciting team, great young player in Staal, good opponent in Boston, cheap tickets, and probably 7,000 show up.
Carolina doesn't deserve hockey. Period.
Take care,

There were 13,000+ there last night, in the middle of a week, possible deciding game of the World Series on TV, against a conference, but a nondivisional opponent. Maybe not great, but a very good crowd, all things considered.

13,000? That was the announced crowd, 13,098. There were nowhere near that many people in the building. That number is tickets sold, not butts in seats.
For the second straight Canes' home game, I saw OCEANS of empty seats on the ends and behind the benches on the lower level. I'm assuming those were unoccupied corporate or season tickets. Just before the faceoff, the camera panned the lower level behind the benches, and nearly an entire section of the lower deck adjacent to the Canes' offensive zone had about 50 people in it.
The crowd may have been announced at 13,000, but I'd be stunned if there were that many there. You were there, though, so I'll take your word for it.
Take care,
PK

There were definitely more people than it appeared, then. It wasn't a sellout, but most sections were pretty full. I was actually kinda surprised that there were as many people there as there was.pk500 wrote:13,000? That was the announced crowd, 13,098. There were nowhere near that many people in the building. Some friends who work at the arena say tickets are selling well. Hopefully, it will continue. If they keep playing the way they are, I think it will

Go Canes!
Hey Camel, what section of the stadium were the seats for $10 bucks? I imagine the upper stands, nevertheless it's a great deal and hopefully more people will go to games. What's a sell out there? Carolina has been having mediocre to poor attendance for years and with their winning record so far this year ,and like you say players like staal that can bring you to the edge of your seat, definetely more people should go to the games, now that baseball is over.
If anyone can watch it tonight it's the Canucks-Avs. Watch the warm welcoming for T. Bertuzzi.

That will be a good one, no doubt. In fact, it's a hell of a night for an NHL double-header, as Ottawa is playing Toronto at 7:30 p.m. (EST).
Looks like I know what I'm doing tonight ...
Take care,

Stevie Y will be back on the ice tonight to help Manny break that record.

Ooops -- tonight is Sens-Canadiens. Sens-Leafs is Saturday night on Hockey Night in Canada.
I'm awash in so much great hockey with NHL Center Ice that I can't keep track.
Take care,

Speaking of Detroit, Stevie Y will be back and apparently he'll be using a visor along with K. Draper (almost lost his eye early on) and K. Maltby, they'll call it the veteran visor line. Good to see.laurenskye wrote:Don't forget Manny Legace going for a record breaking win for the Red Wings (10 wins in October for a Red Wing goalie).

Awell, it's Bruins and the Leafs nonetheless, so I'll be half-watching it anyway. I just read that Raycroft is out with a hamstring injury - darn!pk500 wrote:Ooops -- tonight is Sens-Canadiens. Sens-Leafs is Saturday night on Hockey Night in Canada.

Wow, MacTavish just killed the Oilers in their first practice after the embarrassing collapse Tuesday night against Colorado:

The team deserved it. The Oil is brutal right now.

On the 300-level (top-level), behind the goals. I think the arena holds about 18,000 for hockey. Attendance, along with season tickets sales were good after Stanley Cup run, but went down after that. They appear to be doing pretty good now. What hurt them a lot were the first few years in Greensboro. NOONE was going to the games there. I think attendance will be fine, as long as they keep winning10spro wrote:Hey Camel, what section of the stadium were the seats for $10 bucks? BTW, I actually think people around can would enjoy the hockey more now than 2002, based on the new rules and the new, free-flowing, fast-skating style that the Canes are utilizing under Laviolette. It's much funner to watch than the old dump-and-chase, defensive style the used during the Maurice era.
And anyone that says otherwise can go back to the old clutching & grabbing of the past. Sure you see more PP's & PK's these days and to many that's not Hockey, (ask Anaheim & Toronto's coaches how much they got fined) and many games are decided by a PP goal. But those are the rules, and teams have to get adjusted .fightingcamel wrote:

PK, hope that after that training session, your Oilers will smarten up, I now it worked for my Canucks once Crawford did the same thing after they lost early to Minny 6-0. Since then, they've been unbeaten.
