God, I'm happy to hear that. PS4 and PC were sublime, and I was sitting here feeling like s*** that everybody on XB1 was hating it so much. I didn't think my opinion would be THAT far off...

Project Cars on the XB1, patched, is the spiritual successor to TOCA 3 for which I've waited for 10 years.

Formula C (Formula 3 cars), Silverstone National, no assists (except my usual auto tranny) -- PURE BLISS. What a rush.

I know what I'm doing tonight ... :) :) :)

The Formula C is definitely my favorite car in the game.

Good to hear! Just purchased a brand new copy for the Xbox One on ebay for $45.

Hell, yes. I almost felt high playing the game this afternoon. Euphoric.

Sorry, dude. But the patch transformed the game. Still, this is a sim. You can drive it like Forza 5 if you turn on assists, and there's nothing wrong with that. But you'll need fingertip fidelity to drive with a controller with all assists off. A superb challenge -- so much fun.

No way I can drive without the assists here. True Sim indeed, even when you drive Karts.

Not a damn thing wrong with that, dude. This game is too much fun to worry about any badge of honor being pinned on players' chests based on the level of assists used.

It's legit. Legimately hard and a kick in the balls sometimes, but this is the best console racing sim I've played in this generation.

So the patch fixed the XB1 version? I still have not bought the game. Anyone know the comparison between both XB1 and PS4? I know PS4 has the engine sounds and etc... out of the controller speaker. what does XB1 have? rumble etc...?? i prefer the XB1 controller for racers but not sure about this one since people on PS4 have raved about it.

Don't let that new XB1 patch completely sway you. There's still some very big issues with the game. Forget about career mode. There's horrific coding related to the AI and wet weather. I found it odd that in a race that went from dry to wet, the AI cars were zipping around the track like they were on drys. Turns out I'm not the only one who noticed this. Weather seems to have no impact on the AI cars. For single races this isn't an issue - just set the weather to dry. But career mode? You can't do that, so that entire feature is shelved for me until they get it right.

BTW Paul, you mentioned it's the closest thing to a PC sim you played on a console. Take it you never had Race Pro for the 360? That WAS a PC sim as it was basically a port of the Simbin titles.

Finally took my shrink wrap off last night and had a lot of fun. Man do I suck! Never was very good at racing, and this game shows that off big time. Yet with that said, I had a blast just trying to get better lap after lap, and am looking forward to climbing back in my virtual cars sometime soon.

Question I really need answered from all you guys that play these games a bunch, what settings are you using for your controller? My head hurts looking at all the tweaks, and I get just as confused when looking at the PCars forums. So could you please post what your controller settings are? Thanks.

I played Race Pro on PC. That game was released in 2007, when I was away from consoles and playing PC games. I liked Race Pro -- I didn't love it. rFactor and iRacing were better.

The patch did fix the controller issues in a flash although I do notice a drop in frames from time to time playing career mode. And yes I did noticed some wacky AI behavior.

Patch 1.4, which will address the framerate issues, supposedly is in the works and will drop soon, according to the SMS Project Cars forum.

Ridiculous how SMS can release a game to the masses in beta form. But at least it's addressing the problems methodically and responding to user feedback. SMS boss Ian Bell also has been very active in communication with gamers on the Project Cars forum. He has been exasperated at times, but he also has caught some pretty vitriolic sh*t from idiots.

Well, the guy should be exasperated and catch that vitriol for releasing essentially a beta product!

It's a good game - the handling is a bit on the easy side to me, but what I do like is that it's so much more a challenge than many games. I have it on the PC, but if I had it on the console I would certainly be liking it more than Forza. Forza's AI was never a challenge as you could easily dive into corners for passes. I've had some great fights in Pcars just trying to get on the podium.

Great to hear that patch 1.3 fixed the handling problems with the XB1 version. I'm enjoying the heck out of the PC version, especially since I downloaded Shady Jake's custom force-feedback settings for all of the cars in the game. It's incredible how lifelike the handling feels with these applied on my Fanatec GT2 wheel and Clubsport Elite pedals.... downright spooky at times 8O Quite often, I experience that euphoric feeling that Paul was speaking of earlier. This game does have a TOCA 3-esque personality, particularly offline.

I'm a bit disappointed at the turnout so far in multiplayer online, at least on the PC version. It's rare that there are more than two or three races available. Also, the connection quality seems to vary widely with so many people. I did have a great race last night with 22 other racers in GT3's (which seems to be the go-to class in Project CARS online) at Willow Springs. I was neck and neck with two other cars for a top ten finish at Willow Springs last night for the last three laps. We got through it incident free and it was exhilarating!

How's the multiplayer turnout in the XB1 and PS4 versions?

Sparse last night on XB1. The pre-patch controller problems and the brutal default difficulty, compared to Forza and Need For Speed, probably have scared away many casual racing gamers.

In general, you'll get more if an international crowd on ps4. Whereas xbo is more US based.

At least on twitch, I've seen enough xbl players available for this game.

I'm really enjoying the game, but two things can really start to get to me during a session:

Control settings - f*ck, I'm lost on the settings now. Kept trying to find a way to get it set up so I could do a better job of catching oversteer and now it is twitchy as all hell

Car contact physics - this has been a weakness for Slightly Mad going back to the NFS Shift days, but some of the reactions to hitting another car are ridiculous. I just got sideswiped by a CPU driver and ended up barrel rolling after the contact while driving an Escort Mk1 RS1600 through a slow corner

Still tons of stuff to like, but getting through this vintage race is making me want to throw my controller.

*edit* F*CKING happened again, I was probably going 30 MPH when a car hit me on my side and sent me tumbling in an Escort.

What I'm reading is back to default for controls. hit Y to reset then that's it , apparently there is a dead zone of 15 with the patch that should be the only thing you may need to tweak.
If its more the detailed settings your after cant help you there, haven't done enough with the game yet and mostly i use the wheel.
