Needless to say, I am utterly blown away but I am also reminded that I know absolutely f&*k-all about football when it comes to formations/strategies etc The training camp/tutorial thingies have been useful, can anyone point me in the direction of some online resources about football in general?

Curious on this as well for the guys having balanced games. I've been playing all-pro defaults with qb accuracy turned way down and it has been decent. Also turned cpu pass blocking up as I was getting a ton of sacks.

I started my franchise with the Bears over because I wanted more updated rosters, but I'm still playing with All-Pro defaults. Just tweaked the penalty sliders, turned fatigue up to 60 to generate more subs, and the minimum speed threshold down to zero, although I really don't think that makes a difference. I'll probably stick with those for a while and see how things shake out.

I really do find the game entertaining. I had my first 100-yard rushing game against the Bills, and I enjoy that running feels much more strategic now. You have to really use mismatches, adjust to holes, etc., instead of just wailing on the turbo button.

Had a ridiculous end to my game against the Niners, though. I was down 31-20 with 90 second left and kicked a field goal. I recovered the onside kick, which was very cool as it bounced off Niners player and then there was a scrum for it. Drove down to the 16 with 9 second left, no time outs. Called a play with a post for Martellus Bennett. The Niners only rushed three guys, and both their ends came in untouched. I watched the replay and both my tackles and guards on the right side just let them go by like they were getting paid to let Cutler get sacked. I do like the game a lot, but things like that are reminders that this is an EA product.

Based on the aceess, i bought madden today. It seems most folks play an online connected franchise, for one person, to get speedier tuning updates.

But are roster updates slower? I started one now and its just the 77 man preseason one up for CFM?

You have to save the official one and then load a custom one when you start your offline franchise.

Also, Gangrel, if you want to start the season with the starting rosters intact, turn injuries off for your first preseason and then back on before the first game.

I'm having a lot of fun with the game, but I cannot stop the CPU QBs from completing passes to save my life. I thought I turned a bit of a corner when I whomped the Packers and did a decent job against Rodgers -- he completed around 70%, but threw two picks and didn't hit any big plays. Then I got pantsed by the Panthers after Cam Newton went 18/19. He one-hopped one throw but otherwise was like a laser with every pass. I've tried man, zone, blitzes, showing blitz, pressing, calling for underneath zone, but the QBs just seem to fire exactly where they intend about 95% of the time. That and the bad sideline awareness are my only real complaints about the game so far. Human offense is an absolute blast for me.

Have you adjusted the slide Brando? I started playing with those and lower them seems to have a good effect. Unfortunately the problem has more to do with the ratings. With sliders adjust bad QB's are horrible while starters are still a bit too good.

I may tweak them a little, but wanted to see if I could resolve the completion thing without touching the sliders. Also, in the Panthers game, both Tim Jennings and Kyle Fuller were out with injuries, so I was down to Tillman, scrubs, and the terrible Bears safeties. It's one of those things I'm willing to live with for now because I like the level of challenge I have.

What I would love is to have the CPU accuracy look like mine with Cutler. There's a lot of very realistic variation in my pass trajectories. I might throw a little behind or ahead of a receiver but they still make the catch. I've overthrown outs, skipped pass on hooks, stuff like that. Aside from not being able to really throw over the top on CBs, the passing game feels fantastic.

I've got what I feel are some good sliders that don't venture too far from the baseline. I'll post them tonight if I get on Madden.

So I restarted my CFM with the day 1 rosters and my sliders. I'm getting better results, although the CPU QB still goes on his runs. I'm now 1-2 as the Bears. beat the Bills, lost to S.F and unlike my first cfm I was never in it. Then I lost to the Jets in OT, a team I destroyed in my first CFM. It was typical Bears losing a late lead. Picking the jets deep in my own territory in OT, going 3 nd out and not being able to hold.

I don't have all my sliders memorized but they are something like this.

Human QB Acc 20
CPU QB Acc 10 (Geno Smith 67% last game)

Everything else is same for Human / AI
Fumbles 58 (between 55-60)
WR Catching 45
Pass Blocking 45
Tackling 43
DB Reaction 45

I also played with kick power and accuracy but don't recall what they were.

Is there a way to save mid game in a solo online cfm ? It seems once you lose connection to the EA servers you're screwed.

Nope.. that's the only drawback of online CFM.

I never do Ultimate Team since it's such a rip and in the past they required you to play online games which is even worse since it's 100 percent guys who cheat.

This year EA did a terrific job giving us offline players a robust offline MUT mode. I hadnt played MUT this extensively before and the # of type of games is abundant.

This year's MUT is the first time they got a football UT version close to right.

I still find the short quarters annoying, but I've kind of come to appreciate the the quick, arcade style of play in the two and three minute quarters. Basically, you are playing two 6 minute halves online. That affects strategy, but it also boils the game gown to the critical moments. I've found my online games pretty fun, even though I went 4-6 in my first season. Only one of those games featured an opponent I immediately blocked.

But mainly, you hit the nail on the head, in that there is a ton of stuff to do offline. This used to be the case in HUT, and the lack of it ruins UT for the NHL game. Even though I am working my way through the Training Camp with just 2 minute quarters, it's still just fun knocking them out and collecting rewards.

I see no difference in any of the CPU QBs. The Robo QB is as bad as I have ever seen it in this game. Knocking out the starting QB makes no difference as any meatsack with one arm can complete 70% of his passes. Leave it to EA that the thing they usually tout as being changed is the most screwed up thing in the game.

I've had to leave the pass blocking as is and rack up sacks because if I don't sack the QB or hit him while he throws, it's a completion 80% of the time. My defenders seem to have almost no situational awareness. They get faked out of their socks in man coverage, they leave giant gaping holes in zone. I try making coverage adjustments to no avail. If I play cover 2, they hit the zone between the CB and safety, or across the middle where the LBs ALWAYS drop too deep. If I play cover 3, they always have a receiver running a short route that he converts to 8 yards because there's no one near him.

I have enough fun on offense that I am putting up with it, but I'm really exasperated on the defensive side of the ball, and that's starting to grind down my enjoyment. This may be gone when NBA 2k comes out if I can't find a better way to play defense.

Crazy. I play a game every day or two, and Russell Wilson went 8 for 17 on me, Peyton Manning went something like 21 of 33, but Phillip Rivers lit me up---31 of 36 I think. So many other QBs have been 50% to 60%. Different strokes, I guess.

This has been my experience, too. I do use the guess pass fairly often, especially against pass heavy teams. I don't do much in terms of adjusting coverage, but I switch up zone and man. I guess I ought to drill down and see what my DBs preferences are.

One thing I have learned, though, if you guess run, you better be right. If it's play action, you are toast, because you just told your safety and the other DB's to overcommit to the fake. Most every long TD I have given up has been because of that.

Same here. Big Ben torched me one day last week, but I have held lesser QBs to around 50 percent. I'm no savant of X's and O's, either.

I think I wasted $53.99 as I haven't really touched Madden in weeks. Oh well.. I'm sure I'll play against the neighbor soon enough.
