What a great entertaining game. If you love hockey, you had 3 hours of bliss today.
Rangers just kept working and didn't give up after getting behind 2-0. Lindquist
was unreal at the end and just shut the door on the Flyers. Great game and the NY/Philly
rivalry continues!

You really get a sense of how small the NHL rink is when it's in the middle of a baseball field. Sure wish they would go to the international size and open things up a bit.
And with that, I would guarantee you that the percentage of players getting concussed will be much less than the current state.
They would have to remove far too many of the high priced seats for betmans liking.

Plus it would put far too many no skating ability goons out of work and betman has showed us by his INactions how the scum of the league are his favorite players.
There's some truth to that for sure. But with the way 'Star players' are falling lately due to concussions, there will be a time where the league will have a hard time filling up the upper seats never mind the corporate ones. Goons are a dying breed and while fighting will always be a part of Hockey, it'll be the grinders, plumbers with added muscles and good skating ability that will be dropping the gloves.

I hope so. That eventually, by necessity, it will be taken out of that assholes hands and what is best for the game will happen.

I really do hope you are right.

Another reckless hit by D. Carcillo. This dude will never learn no matter which teams he plays for. I guess he loves going to Shanny's house. He's suspended indefinitely.

Unbelievable semis going on between the Russians and Team Canada on the World Juniors.. For 40 minutes Russia was just the better team, using their better speed and capitalizing on their man advantage. their play was so strong that they were leadin 6-1. But you're talking about Canada playing in their home turf and with 3 minutes to go, they narrowed the score to 6-5 playing with a lot of heart. Whatever the final score maybe, this has been a heck of a match.

Hit the f***in post with 30? seconds left with the would be tying goal....So close yet so far.

That would have been the greatest comeback any place any time but... well...they shouldnt have played like idiots the first 50 plus minutes.

That was the MOST intense 8-9-10 minutes.

Yep, a damn post away from tying it all up, but give credit to the Russians, in the end they deserved to be in the finals. Team Canada was just too tentative in their early play admiring the tic tac toe precision passing by the Russians and their overall speed until they woke up in the 3rd. Captain Kuzntesov is going to be some player one day in the NHL.

The video doesn't show the exact specifics of the play that led to the hit, but the NHL provides ammunition for morons like Carcillo by keeping touch-up icing in the game. No-touch icing -- or at least giving the referee the option to call it -- would prevent many incidents in which defensemen get stapled into the end boards.

Bingo. I am all for it and I've been an advocate for that move for years. The Olympic games much like the WJ yesterday had such a nice flow to the game without the dangers of getting injured.

Matt Kassian looks like he could be an up and coming tough guy

Talk about kicking 6 different kinds of dog crap out of a guy, even if he had a big size advantage over his opponent. Makes me miss Boogard.

Four Ottawa Senators voted in as starters in the NHL All-Star Game. What a farce.

Carcillo gets 7-game suspension for his hit the other night. I agree that we could help avoid hits like that with no-touch icing. I wonder how much of an effect that removing the two-line pass rule has had on the increase on injuries and vicious hits. Players are moving faster as a result of that rule change. I know it has opened up the game and made for some exciting hockey but has it also opened the concussion flood gates?

People like a fast game, and I can't imagine many want to do anything to aid a return to clutch and grab hockey.

I wonder how many more concussions are happening, or just how much more people are paying attention to them and sitting players who "had their bell rung." Also FWIW, the Carcillo play was not an icing situation but plain old dump and chase.

I'd like to see them widen the ice like the international rink size. Wider ice means far less contact.

7 games for Carcillo is fair enough given his history. It wasn't the worst hit in the world. I know it looked bad because the guy went flying like a rag doll, but it did not look like there was any major attempt to injure. One thing players need to note is that past incidents are factoring in heavily in number of games suspended.

I like the current two-line pass rule. It makes for more breakaways and a more up and down flow, not to mention it neutralizes some of the neutral zone trapping. I don't think changing the rule would cut down on concussions.

Perhaps if the event was called 'All Favorites Game' the current city hosting the event would make more sense. While I have no problems with J. Spezza being selected and perhaps E. Karlsson, the other two guys and I mean no disrespect to them, were clearly chosen more with the home crowd's heart than brains.

AS for Carcillo's suspension, even though there was no ill intention to injure it was plain reckless, just shoving your opponent with little room left at full speed is dangerous. Seven games looks right maybe I would have pushed it to 10 because of his reputation.

Shanny got it right also by suspending Rene Bourque, who got 5 for sticking out his elbow.

Agree. This is far from Carcillo's first trip to the principal's office. He should sit for 10 games.

The league experimented with this just this past summer at the Research, Development and Orientation Camp. They allowed referees to call no-touch icing if they felt the defensive player was in a vulnerable position. I watched some of the games and the refs actually did a very solid job, albeit a small sample size. Problem is the GM's are resisting the potential change.

So glad to see the Sharks on a nice little run as of late and looking good. The run is nothing compared to the tear the Bruins are on, though. Saw that they followed up their 6-1 win with a 9-0 win tonight -- are you freaking kidding me? Seems almost unfair to have such a ridiculous offense in addition to their goalie and defensive situation. The West IMO has been the better overall conference over the last several years, but the East may well be better this year.

The tandem duo of Rask and Thomas looks invincible as of late. Luongo has been hot as of late too bringing a SO in his 700th game yesterday and if Corey starts, coach AV has all the confidence in him too. Still, BOS has the best 1-2 goaltending in the league right now. I've been looking forward to this weekend encounter with the Bruins since the opening day, both teams paying well and on top of their respective division. Not too crazy about the afternoon start but I guess it's a BOS Saturday tradition. There should be a few sparks brewing among these two teams, a rematch of the SC finals.

I haven't said much as their play speaks for itself, but my good god they look phenomenal. Last night was a clinic against Calgary. As far as tomorrow afternoon goes, the 'Nucks can earn a lot of respect by winning this game tomorrow. You know Burrows is going to be tortured all day and the building is going to be in Bobby's head so if Vancouver can slow the B's down then I'll be impressed.

As well as Boston is playing, the Rangers lead the Eastern Conference. One of the forgotten stories of this season because Lundqvist's greatness is taken for granted, and Gaborik and Richards are two of the most under-the-radar stars in the league.

Otherwise, the NYR's are filled with hard-working dudes who know and execute their roles very well, as designed by the excellent John Tortorella.

They still don't get respect in BOS even though they are one of the top teams in the league? The anticipation for this match up is big obviously here in Lotus land, my only beef is that coach AV decided to start Schneider who's a home town boy instead of Luongo. Personally after his 3 disastrous performance in BOS during the finals where Lou was slapped silly, I wanted to see him in net to overcome his demons in that building. But it's going to be Corey, in a hostile atmosphere and a few fists will be flying. Really excited about this game.
