I played the lite version on the Ipad. What a fun platformer, and best of all the controls are very responsive.pigpen81 wrote:Soosiz is free this weekend.

The link above is to a TUAW (Mac Blog) for the game GAME DEV STORY.
Think Lemonade Stand but with more to do, a chance of failure and about games. I downloaded it earlier for my iPad (I like iphone games on the larger screen). It's just a great game -- a real time waster but a good game with thinking required on its own right. It's 3.99 and if it was iPad made, I think it could go for 4.99. A little pricey but very good.

Low Grav Racer 2 is free through FAAD right now. If you haven't played it, it's Wipeout.

With Halloween approaching, I am having a blast killing zombies in 'Zombieville HD'.
Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
Just picked up a GREAT little top down arcade racer on the iphone called "Reckless Racing".
Really a lot of fun once you get used to the controls and top down view.

Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
Anyone here have an ipad AND and iphone? Do they compliment each other or is it overkill?
Me and the wife are thinking of getting a new laptop and are considering getting a ipad instead?
We just want something while sitting around on the couch to check emails and the web. Would
the ipad be a better choice than a whole laptop?

The iPad is great for that task, so much so that I basically never used my laptop on the couch or in bed, but use the iPad like that on a daily basis.JackB1 wrote:We just want something while sitting around on the couch to check emails and the web. Would

Also, not a direct comparison, but my wife has an Android smartphone and while it can basically do the same things as an iPhone, I would never dream of using her phone the way I use the iPad regularly.
As a side issue, has anyone bought an AV-out cable for the iPad and can comment? Just been playing around with the idea of getting one to watch DL'ed TV shows on my TV via the iPad, or Netflix on my TV that doesn't have the xbox. If only the Hulu+ app supported video out on the iPad.

Free App A Day.
As for whether you should get an iPad or laptop for your email usage, I would go for the iPad too as Naples stated. Very convenient, it's always on with the laptop you would have to turn it on/off, and the variety of games is amazing as you probably know. Movie quality is great and if you're traveling on the road or by air, it's the perfect size to bring it along.
Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
I have been considering getting a av-out cable for my iphone, so I can watch movies/videos on my iphone on my TV. The Apple store sells the component cable for $50! Seems a bit steep. Might have to check around for better deals.Naples39 wrote:As a side issue, has anyone bought an AV-out cable for the iPad and can comment? On a side note, is Netflix a worthwhile thing? Seems pretty cool that you can instantly watch movies on your iphone, ipad or 360/TV. Much better than waiting for them in the mail.
Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
AirPlay with the upcoming 4.2 iOS update will let you stream content from iPad/iPhone/iPod to AppleTV. But there are some other consumer electronics which are apparently going to support AirPlay as well -- I've seen some speakers and receivers. Not sure if there are other consumer electronics which will receive video streams from iOS device.Naples39 wrote:The iPad is great for that task, so much so that I basically never used my laptop on the couch or in bed, but use the iPad like that on a daily basis.JackB1 wrote:We just want something while sitting around on the couch to check emails and the web. Also not clear yet is whether apps. will be able to stream video or just the built-in iPod player. So will the Netflix.app or the Hulu.app support streaming over AirPlay. Maybe not since Apple has Netflix built into the AppleTV already. Or you get something like VLC.app and stream torrented video?
I know there's a third-party app. which will stream video encoded with just about any codec out to an iOS device. But not sure if they would stream to AirPlay equipment. You could then kind of skip loading content on the iOS device altogether and just go directly from computer to a set top box hooked up to your TV.
Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
Also wanted to add, it's near the end of the cycle for the first-gen iPad.
No later than March/April, there should be a second-gen iPad. Of course, that's still about 6 months away.
But people expect at least a FaceTime camera, if that matters to you for things like video Skype calls.
Likely faster chip and more RAM, maybe better GPU and a magnetometer like the iPhone 4 for more console-like games, like the one Epic demo'd --though the most popular games are simple things like Angry Birds or Cut the Rope.

I would be very interested in buying a box for my TV that would let me stream downloadable content from PC hard drive AND play streams like ESPN3, netflix, hulu, etc.., but my understanding is that with products like boxee box and roku it's either PC streaming OR internet streaming.wco81 wrote:I know there's a third-party app. which will stream video encoded with just about any codec out to an iOS device. If an iPad av-out cable worked, I could get a little bit of both internet streaming and PC streaming for minimal expense (definitely not paying $50 for official apple cable).
Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
Why wouldn't the boxee allow both streaming of PC content and internet sources?Naples39 wrote:I would be very interested in buying a box for my TV that would let me stream downloadable content from PC hard drive AND play streams like ESPN3, netflix, hulu, etc.., but my understanding is that with products like boxee box and roku it's either PC streaming OR internet streaming.wco81 wrote:I know there's a third-party app. which will stream video encoded with just about any codec out to an iOS device. Hmm, thought I read somewhere that Boxee wouldn't have some key online streaming access that Roku did. I'd love to be wrong however.LAking wrote:Why wouldn't the boxee allow both streaming of PC content and internet sources?

Out of curiosity Naples, isn't the only thing your Xbox wouldn't be capable of streaming to your tv that you mentioned be Hulu after the fall update adds ESPN3 support?

Anyone know if they're releasing the NBA Gametime iPhone app this year? I've looked around and can't find any info,
Re: IPhone/ITouch Game App Thread
I think the cost of the Apple cable may have to do with a DRM chip, which Apple put in to appease the networks and studios.
Networks are blocking Google TV, which just came out, from accessing their online streams. It's about protecting their cable TV and satellite distribution partners as well as trying to get more money from a deep-pockets company. Most of them won't go for 99 cents episode rentals for AppleTV either, again because they want more money if their content helps a rich company like Apple make more money.
Of course, they also overvalue their content and want you to pay for digital downloads in addition to DVD as well as your cable bill for the same content, just delivered differently.
Then they complain about torrents.

Maybe, but I am kind of on a quest to figure out how to cancel cable because it's so absurdly expensive and have my Xbox on my upstairs TV. Need a solution for the living room TV.ScoopBrady wrote:Out of curiosity Naples, isn't the only thing your Xbox wouldn't be capable of streaming to your tv that you mentioned be Hulu after the fall update adds ESPN3 support?
The prime time for my Xbox playing is when the wife is watching stuff I hate like Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice on the other TV.

I also picked up "Little Things" for $.99. My kids love this game.
