Do not under estimate UnCharted. That game sucked me in like no other game...in a long while at least. The PS3 is staring to make some noise. This Killzone 2 game supposedly has a superb online component.
I'm very much looking forward to playing through Uncharted, no worries there. I bought KZ 2 over it only because of what you just mentioned, that the online play is also supposedly very good.
Yeah, as good as Uncharted is, I don't think it has much value beyond the 9 or so hours of single player gameplay. I'm not really one for replaying a campaign on "super hard" either for the trophies or the challenge.
You could also download "Flower" to get a taste of PSN. I haven't done so myself yet, but it looks like a completely unique experience that will help calm your nerves after a night of Killzone 2.

I would agree with that. Single player is kinda short but it is a great ride.
So....I know most of us are older with good jobs, great families, and priorities that far outweigh our casual gaming hobby, but once in a while a time comes along where we have to act like the Chaz Reinhold that's really deep down inside each of us.
Anyway, my point. For those that don't know, midnight launch for this one tomorrow night at Gamestop.

Having played this game for the last 4 days. It's totally worth it!!
There's no question The Show is a very polished baseball game but the team behind the game should concentrate on overhauling the Pitching interface next year instead of giving us a new way of running the bases.

I had a good hour to kill last night and played the demo for the last time. Let the game go through all of the scenes, took my time batting and pitching and just loved every minute of it. What a great game.
I have been working now for 19 years and for the first time ever I am taking a day off to go get a game and play it. My wife has to work, my kids will be at school. I feel a little silly, but I cannot deny that I am excited.
Abner says stars are retiring somewhat early, after really good seasons.
TIME TO BURN MY DISC.
Kidding, I love Abner's blog. I've never gotten past a year and a half of a franchise, so I'll never see this. My new MO in baseball games is just to play shortened season mode (29 games or so) with different teams to get a taste of all the divisions and stadiums.
Legend difficulty is a gift from the developer gods!

To be honest, I love the classic pitch mode in the game. It's so High Heatesque, and imo, it's more about ratings than my ability to time some mechanism. Although that could just be me. All personal preference.
I FRIGGIN HATE the new baserunning scheme. It's terrible in RTTS as well. I think, there's a setting to go back to classic baserunning. I may try that when I get home tonight.
I don't know if I've ever been more impressed with a demo than I am with the Show 09 demo. I don't even necessarily mean in terms of how good the game is, rather how polished it is and how many options it includes. Having full access to all of the difficulty levels, options and sliders really allows you to play with lots of things and dial in your settings before the game is released. Kudos to the developers for giving me what has turned into hours of free gameplay before the final version is released.
I've found the game itself to be spectacular as well. I've been going back and forth between it and last year's game to compare, and I think it is much improved. First off, the graphics are unreal, and make what I thought was the best looking sports game ever in Show 08 almost look last gen in comparison. I'm literally stunned at times at how realistic the game looks. I'm find the batting to be much better as well. On HOF difficulty, I'm striking out much more than before, as it seems like changes in pitch speeds are more pronounced than in the past, and good contact is much more difficult to make. It also feels like the pitch movements have changed as well, as breaking balls are really making me look bad at times.
I hope Gamefly can get this to me quickly. It is going to kill me reading the impressions in here all week, as I know people are going to love this game.

There is a classic baserunning option, and it is what I have been using in the demo. It has always worked well for me, so I feel no need to try to learn something new.
One option that doesn't seem to be working for me is the one that turns check swing appeals off. I'm still having the umpires overrule my check swings and call strikes, even with the option off. Or am I just completely wrong in what that option is supposed to do?

I've had the game since Thursday, and I agree with everything you said.
Hitting is DEFINITELY more challenging this year.
As an example playing in HOF last year, my RTTS player in his first year in AA hit like .330 or something. On All-Star my RTTS player in his first year is hitting .246, and I had to get on a hot streak to get to .246.
Hitting feels so much more rewarding this year, and is a definite upgrade in challenge.

I agree with you guys as well. This is my first year with the ps3, but the two games (ps2 and ps3) were pretty analogous last year, so I'm seeing the same sorts of gameplay changes that you are.
The first thing that I noticed is that pitchers' control is less precise with meter picthing even when you nail the spots. Throwing unintentional balls when you are aiming center place is nice to see once in a while!
Secondly, yes, I think hitting is much more challenging this year. (Which is a good thing, IMO)
The hitting is great this year. No more swinging late on inside pitches and hitting them hard the other way. And you really have to wait on those outside offspeed pitches and take them to the opposite field. It feels like the timing window is much more accurate this year and the results are much more realistic IMO. One thing I noticed that's different than the demo is the pitch speed slider really works. In the demo it felt like the slider effect was minimal.
What a great game. Let 2K mess around with gameplay mechanics and such. It's refreshing to have an annual sports game that refines the strategic and simulation elements rather than the typical back of box bullet point features.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind meter or classic pitching it's just that I prefer the new pitching scheme MLB 2K9 is using. And that's too bad about the new, new, new and improved base running. Every year SCEA comes out with a new base running scheme that just totally confuses the feck out of me.
It looks like i'll be using classic base running once again.
