One thing that increases board play is use the soft, flip dump and then when you get to the puck, use the Y button to check the opponent against the boards and then poke check to get the loose puck. You have to dump and chase at the right time. It doesn't always work, just like in the NHL

Well I gave Gamestop a call today to see if there was a slight chance the game was in today and they said no today was the ship date and asked if I had it reserved and I tell them no and they ended up giving me the big speech that I should come in tonight to preorder to be guaranteed a copy tomorrow as they are only going to be getting enough copies that they sell preorders for.

Guess I'll be picking it up at either Kmart or Walmart tomorrow as I'm certain they will have copies available for sale without preorder.

Anyone else order from Gamestop.com? I ordered over a week ago with the Free Overnight Shipping coupon. I just checked my order over at GS.com and it said "Backordered". Anyone else's order get shipped yet...or are you getting the same message? I will be pissed off beyond belief if I don't get the game tomorrow. This is probably my most anticipated game so far this year so I better not get screwed.

The tracking number hasn't been updated yet to say...SHIPPED but I hope I have this in the AM tomorrow since I work nights.

Be A Pro Update:

- You can use any camera (ie: classic, overhead etc!)
- One player only (you can't have 2 people playing BAP, but I don't see how it would be feasible in the first place - just play a different mode with position lock)

One of the mods over at OS said that you cannot use the TV broadcast view for BAP mode. That's a bummer for me if true.

Some people at OS are complaining that you can't see who the line changes are for the CPU. I'm not really a big sim hockey player, so I doubt it'll affect me, but it might for some of you.

Well, if you want to match line for line, it would be a big issue. You don't want to leave your fourth line on the ice when inadvertently you see the top line of the other team.

I let the CPU do my line changes, could care less about that

Didn't check the range of minutes.. but I believe you can go from 4-20 in increments of 1 mins

Played a few games, you load the game, create your player (very quick) then go into some drills.. good stuff!

Let me say this, if you liked NHL 08, look no further, this game has been much improved...

I like both games, but just playing that one game really got me excited about 09 this year.

Speed has been toned down

Skating is much better

Best controller scheme in ANY sports video game.. the new dump the puck and lift the stick really allows you to play some defense.. FINALLY!

Puck physics are excellent, still tape to tape passing, but more passes do go off line than last year

Tons of more goalie animations

Presentation improved, the opening sequence to the game is great.. same replays between periods as last year.. 3 stars come out at the end of the game

More offline shots, much more variety of goals

Penalties called seemed about the same, but a small sample so far

Fighting is horrible

Still hitting the post a bit too much for my taste

Just like last year, EA's game is much more open than 2k9

Your defense helps out much more

Can't wait to play some more tonight!!

Just off brief playing time with both games, just like IGN, I would give NHL 09 a 9 and NHL 2k9 an 8

Most people will like NHL 09 more I think.. and if you were a big fan last year, you'll love 09 even more... more impressions to come later!
