I have a coffin on the way, but I'm worried MS is going to try to charge me $99 for repairs. I got a RROD once, but then it worked for a day or two, but now I have freezing to the point of unusability. Since I've had the console for 14 months technically I am only covered under RROD of errors, not other problems.

Tell them you are fed up with the failures and reports of failures. If they attempt to charge you tell them you plan on buying a Playstation 3. That usually does the trick 9.5 times out of 10.

Will the service tech I am talking to really care if I buy a PS3?

My friend sent his back and told them it was a RROD issue when it wasn't. He was nervous and i told him the worst they will do is charge you. they never bothered to look I guess because they didn't charge him or question it.

Frankly they are so overwhelemed I can't imagine anyone is bothering to check if they are legitimate claims.

That's pretty much what I'm hoping for. Makes me regret only going with the one year service plan when I got this thing at microcenter. Only 45 days out from that expiring. :x

Mine has frozen twice now playing NHL 08 in the past three days. I'm expecting the worst. Good times. Glad I've got the PS3 as well now, that's for damn sure.

NHL 08 froze on me constantly for months. It's only in the last few days that other games started freezing on me, and now it freezes within 5 minutes of turning on. So you might be okay if it's just NHL freezing.

I'm on my 2nd copy of NHL...the first one I sold in favor of 2k8...and I don't remember my first one doing it at all. That's the bad thing. Maybe I'll just swap it for another copy. Last nights game froze with literally .4 seconds left in the game. I was down 3-2, so I avoided the loss, but it still was crappy.

I was just reading on the xbox site that the warranty for xboxes has now been extended to one year, starting Dec 22nd (i think). They have will give backpay to anyone who paid for repairs within the last year.....

Just in case this wasn't mentioned earlier in this thread......

My copy of NHL 08 froze on me tonight in a decent, scoreless game. Reloaded and shut it off after being down 6-0 after 2. 8O

Of course my neighbor has had this game for a week or two and I have noticed a few scratches on it.

One thing I remember about NHL 08, is to remove it each time you get finished playing it.

WTF!

SO I get an email from XBL that my CC acct isn't working for my xbl auto renewel. Sure enough, it's a CC i cancelled last year, so I called them and added the new CC card onto the account. the guy verifies over the phone, charges me the 50 bucks, then tells me to restart the 360 so I can see the updates.

Then I get 4 red rings! WTF! How!

so i am out f***in 50 bucks and my 360 is broken!

I better get my 50 bucks back and I know the console is going to be shipped out. But when I get it back, is it really worth the trouble keeping this thing? I think I may just sell it off on ebay as I really should have when I had this happen last time.

Flashing 4 Red Rings usually means there's a problem with the A/V connection. ;)

Well I took out the AV connector and plugged it back in and same thing.

I find it funny that when I was on the phone with the guy and online also doing the CC thing, that it crashed.

It's possible the AV cable is bad. Not likely but possible. Anytime all four quadrants flash red it indicates an audio/video problem.

I think the cable is good :). I think whatever they did on the phone while I was online did something somewhere. I have to call them back and have the thing sent out.

They're actually 3 lights, not 4. i took off the av and got 4, but now I get 3.

UPDATE : i called xb and they refunded my xbl 50 bucks and I have the box coming. They were pretty nice so I don't feel that pissed off now.

Yeah if you have 3 quadrants then you have the RROD. You'll need to send it off to MS. The problem is the refurbed units they send out are not that reliable either.

Yes, but unfortunately with the 360 gone and out of house, you can't even play by yourself.

Well i suppose you could hold the controller and look at your hard drive while you sit on the AC brick until it gets back. :P

If it's plugged in, it'll keep your balls nice and toasty. An added perk to be sure during these cold winter months.

But you can search the Internet and enjoy pictures of other people playing. That helps.

I just got mine back and the "date of birth" was November 2006. WTF? I'll be lucky if it lasts 6 months.

I'd love to see the numbers of defective 360s that MS has repaired through the "coffin" program. That figure is probably guarded in Redmond with the same secrecy as the Coke recipe in Atlanta.

The number must be in the six figures, don't you think?

Take care,
