I tried Hard for the first time last night. Suffice it to say I'll be spending a lot of time in practice mode.

Yeah it really irritated me at first, although the PS2 mode did as well. To this day I've never been able to hit those alternating chords that chug through there. I just hit 50% through there and stay on one chord and dont' fail the song, but I'll never have a great score on Psychobilly Freakout...ever.Spooky wrote:Well...I ALMOST threw my guitar through my TV last night!!!![]()
Goddam "Psychobilly Freakout"!!!!!!!!! I spent 2 hours last night trying to pass this song on Expert and never once got past 20%.
What is really frustrating is that I passed this song within 3 or 4 tries on the PS2 version!?!?! I swear there is something different about the 360 guitar that is just throwing me off terribly on certain types of passages. Maddening!!!
It's that damn beginning! I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong for the life of me! And for parts like that, slowing them down and practicing in practice mode does me NO good. It just becoems a clusterf*ck when I go back to normal speed.TCrouch wrote:Yeah it really irritated me at first, although the PS2 mode did as well. I swear there is something with me and this new 360 guitar though. I am even having trouble now on YYZ (I passed PsychoFreak this morning...barely). And I never had trouble with YYZ on the PS2. Soemthing with the neck being skinnier and a bit shorter is really throwing me off.
I have gone back and fourth too with trying to calibrate lag (which seems to always put me at aroun 40 ms) but it really seems to make no difference. So I just go back to 0 default and keep trying.

Has anybody heard of people modding their regular guitars to play Guitar Hero? A buddy of mine said he's heard of it- I think it would be a great idea.
Also, comparing the ps2 axe to the 360 one- It seems the 360 guitar strap is better balanced- maybe due to the guitar sticking sharply out at the bottom. Just feels better to me.

I figure the odds of me trying to mod it to play a video game are somewhere between "no way in hell" and "you are f*cking insane"
Seriously, I don't know why anybody would even try, but I guess it would be possible to break open the neck (or buy a dummy neck), put some buttons and wires running down it, etc. Just seems like such a waste of time for something that works pretty well with the little plastic toy.

the one thing that is sorely missed in this game is the ability to watch a
REPLAY!!!!!!!!!
Since u cant really watch whats going on whle you are playing, this would be a welcome way to watch the song you just played being performed on the stage.
Also, is there any way to just listen to the songs? If u dont play, the song will end after your meter goes to red. On a related note, is there a way to rip the music from the game disc?

Never played guitar, never purchased GH before....yet went on a search like my life depended on it last week and tracked down a copy. And as a newbie to GH all i can say is this game is F-U-N. I suck wind, but i moved to medium for the first time today and did, well, mediocre.
BUT, what made the $90 all worthwhile was watching my 6 year old daughter prop the guitar up on her knee and hit 85% of the notes (slowest speed but she is only 6) on Surrender. Reading....blah. Math skills......who needs 'em. 6 year old hitting 25 notes in a row.......priceless.

I've picked this up again and am trying to get through the game on Hard. The solo in "Woman" is completely kicking my ass. Even at the slowest speed, I am having trouble with the Solo C part. Any tips for this one in particular?
Also, I have a general problem with trying to switch from the Green hand position to Red. I've got the Red down now, so I can hit the orange button okay, but whenever I need to switch back to Green, I have trouble adjusting my finger placement. Any tips would be appreciated. I five-starred almost all the songs on Medium, so I'm ready to move up, but the jump from that level to Hard is really big.

Save all your star power until that part of the solo.Brando70 wrote:I've picked this up again and am trying to get through the game on Hard. The solo in "Woman" is completely kicking my ass. Even at the slowest speed, I am having trouble with the Solo C part. Any tips for this one in particular?
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Brando,
Your experience almost exactly mirrors mine. I got through medium pretty easily, getting 5 stars on nearly all, then hit my first 'wall' at the woman solo. I just got through it after some time on practice mode. It's really the only song I've had to practice, and forced me to start using a lot of hammer-ons and pull-offs. Of course the old star power technique to get through the solos is the only way I beat most songs on expert, so don't be afraid to pull that out.

Surprisingly, my 360 didn't get the rings on me today when I fired this up. I guess I'll have something to play until the box comes.
The towel trick realy does work if you realy need something to play waiting for "the box"
I've had to practice pretty much every song on Hard to get more than three stars. Part of it is not having played the game in a while, and part of it is that I'm just not very good at this game. But I think if I save my star power, I can get through the solo.Naples39 wrote:Brando,

It really is a hell of a game. I will definitely get GHIII and I'm probably going to add the whole $200 Rock Band package to my Christmas list.

I plan to buy both too. Heck, I went out and bought Guitar Hero Rocks the 80's, borrowed my nieces PS2 then borrowed my friends ps2 guitar just to play it. I can't wait for the online stuff. I think GHIII will be fun online but Rock Band hopefully will really shine.
