I think all in all that sounds about fair, but with no real discount present. Good idea if you're on board with those games, but I am always far too picky for bundles myself.Blublub wrote:It may or may not be a good value, but it's available now and it includes Madden and extra controllers:

I'm glad someone had the balls to give Zelda a realistic score. The Zelda games may be the most consistently overrated games of all time. Not to say they are bad. They all tend to be solid well made games that are fun to play, but i've never felt like any of them have really moved gaming forward in any way. They rely on the same formula over and over while only adding small improvement here and there. It seems like gamespot recognized that while the rest of the gaming sites were drinking a little too much of the Nintendo cool-aid.Spooky wrote:Gamespot's review of Zelda was not nearly as glowing...

Of course I can't really judge it until i play it, and i will most likely pick it up when I eventually get a Wii, but based on what i've been reading it's not much different than any other Zelda title. Not a bad thing by any means, but still nothing really compelling.

So if they fall behind in a couple of years to the PS3 they're just going to release another console? They had the most powerful console by far, yet they quit the earliest. A LOT of people felt like the Xbox was under-utilized... when you looked at the games that were developed specifically for the Xbox, like Splinter Cell, they looked *outstanding*. I wish I would have seen more games like that, instead of PS2 ports. But the Xbox was basically designed to fail anyway, so I have no one to blame but myself for buying one. The 360 was the console that M$ was always looking towards.GameSeven wrote:
So, despite coming out with a system (Xbox) that included better graphics capabilities, an included hard drive and a comprehensive online strategy, MS somehow owed it to the industry to remain behind in the last generation and continue being "pummeled"?
It's pretty obvious that all of the console launches would have benefited from additional time... Sony and Nintendo could have delayed further, but their fans would have had even more conniptions.GameSeven wrote:So with an additional year of development and resources at their disposal and an eager fan base ready to camp out since the Killzone teaser saw light of day, Sony comes out with a wet fart of a release and it's MS's fault?
I said this is an Xbox board, which it is, meaning that overwhelmingly people have M$ consoles as opposed to Sony or Nintendo consoles. You can count on your hand the people who had PS2s and even less had Gamecubes. You are the one who said "fanboy". There are definitely a lot of Xbox fanboys on here (look at the 10 page PS3 thread on a board where no one has or even *wants* a PS3 for more details), but that wasn't the point I was trying to make.GameSeven wrote:Your comment that this is an Xbox board in the other thread is also off base. I've owned every major console released since the Atari Jaguar in 1993, PS3 and Wii currently notwithstanding although I may very well grab a Wii (ahem) for Zelda and maybe Rayman. When the PS3 comes out with a few desirable games that exceed any experience I can have on the 360 or the price of the console becomes more palatable, then I'll consider a purchase. If that makes me an Xbox fanboy, then one's standards are pretty low.

I didn't start posting on this board yesterday... I've been giving some of these guys a hard time for half a decade nowSoMisss2000 wrote:not sure this is a true statement. I don't know not one xbox owner who didn't own a PS2 at one time. You can count on your hand the people who had PS2s

All you have to do is look at the MLB Show thread. Only 6-8 guys had the game, and some of them bought PS2s just for the game. In the begining before Xbox, yeah most had PS2s. When the Xbox came out and Live got going, it became an Xbox board. You guys are making too much out of this... it's just a fact, not a condemnation.

Well, it's obvious that you are just joking now. Spooky, Scoop, Seminole, Fanatic, Web, Brando, Airdog, and AJ reference currently owning or previously owning a PS2 in the recent Guitar Hero 2 thread alone. You can't possibly forget how many have praised the PS2-exclusive MLB the Show. I'm not sure Wco has ever owned an Xbox. We all know Badgun buys everything...LOL. Where do you think I first heard about the "knife" trick and how many guys had PS2's just for WE before it appeared on the Xbox? Who can forget PK's love of World of Outlaws? I think you'd actually have a much tougher time identifying DSPers that *never* owned a PS2.

The Wal-Mart and Best Buy by me are doing 7 and 8 a.m. launches. No one is in line at the almost 5'oclock hour. The Game Stop at the mall is doing a midnight luanch and there is already 56 people in line.
To me, those who are buying their Wii's tonight or tomorrow are most likely to keep theirs as opposed to selling them. That's just my hunch.

11 replies? Why? No one's got a PS2 to play it on anymore...

That's a stretch beyond latex. I would say more than half of the Xbox owners here owned a PS2 at one time, myself included.Kazuya wrote:You can count on your hand the people who had PS2s and even less had Gamecubes.

Absolutely. When a console came along that let all of us DSPers play together as a community with a streamlined interface and Gamertag system, that's pretty hard to resist. It's nice to easily put a voice with a post and a username, and XBL has allowed that.
If the PS2 had the same kind of well-supported, consistent interface for online gaming as XBL, I don't think the worm would have turned as easily here. I think almost everyone at DSP enjoys online console gaming, and MS has been the leader in that category -- and remains at the pinnacle -- since the day Xbox Live hit beta in 2002.
Take care,
PK

Well damn...here in LA, in one of the local malls, they had a Wii Kiosk setup with about 10 Wiis, all playing a different Wii Sports game. Color me impressed after about 20 min. of messing around with all of the games for a little while. The controller is pretty accurate and it really is fun. Even my girl was having a good time with it. I'll probably end up picking one up as soon as I can find one. By no means am I going to get in line or anything, but if I am walking through a store and see one, I'll probably end up getting it. It's a nice alternative to the 360.
Heading out in less than 2 hours to pick mine up DB, thanks for the impressions. I haven't touched the Wii yet, so it's encouraging to hear that your first experience was positive and that your little girl got into it. My goal is to get my wife/daughter to share some gaming time with me, in addition to exploring the 'revolutionary' controls myself.
stay tuned for a full review/report by morning.

Zelda is the only game my fiance likes and has been waiting for the next version for 2 years(of delays). She is napping now so she can play in a couple of hours.dbdynsty25 wrote:My girl meaning my girlfriend. LOL...no little DB's running around yet. Thank god for the rest of the world, right? OK, now I'm starting to believe the Wii has critical mass. I've only seen this kind of endorsement from DB over his favorite phone and MP3 player.dbdynsty25 wrote:Well damn...here in LA, in one of the local malls, they had a Wii Kiosk setup with about 10 Wiis, all playing a different Wii Sports game. Just bagging, Scott. But seriously, this thing wasn't on your radar at all, and if you're this impressed -- knowing how you aren't easily wooed -- then this thing must be pretty far out.
Thanks for the impressions.

Drove by a Best Buy at around 4:45 and there was like four tents set up outside the store for the Wii...No idea if they were doing a midnight launch but still interesting as I believe that I should be able to get one by X-Mas...but with BC winning and Wake losing tonight I might have a monster bowl game to attend!!!
My xbox live name is "The Zlax45"
I drove by target on the way to pick mine up and there were at least 20 people waiting outside in the cold.
I went to gamestop and there were 12 people... I got mine along with Zelda and headed over to Walmart to see what was going on there.. It was a mad house. They were was a long line.. They were selling them then but I don't know if there were any extras.
I get the thing home, take it out of the box and look for the manual. I could not figure out what this round clear thing was for.... its to add support for the stand if anyone else wonders later on.
So I hook it up to my 47in panny and start messing with the menus. The interface is nothing special.. but navigating is. My fiance was doing all the navigation but the icon was jumping around some... I thought it was her until I tried it for a second.
The icon/hand would also leave the screen which seemed annoying. We spend 30 seconds trying to get the online part working before we decided to pop in zelda.
First impressions is you willl never hear anyone say its pretty. Its far from being visual stunning. But then again, thats not what Nintendo does.. they do fun... my fiance is playing it as I type this.
I have not played Wii sports and prob won't until sometime after the Falcons lose tomorrow.
Thats all for now.

I don't know what to decide on this Christmas now. I was gonna get 360 but now wii has me very intrigued. For those of you who have it, does wii last? Meaning with GC, every game I played I had fun for the first few hours and then it did nothing for me. I hope wii has more lasting power.
It's also cool gc games are backwards compatible. Very nice.

Brought my Wii home at 12:30 last night...
First, the negative. This system is supposed to be about 'bringing people together, the whole family, non-gamers, to play intuitive games'; it would be helpful if they actually shipped CONTROLLERS so that the rest of the family could actually PLAY! Some of the games can be played with one controller, but it's inexcuseable not to have these basic accessories available for launch.
Now, the positive. This thing is COOL. Navigating the menus, setting up, and creating Mii's was easy, fun and intuitive. My biggest challenge was determining where to put the sensor bar; below or above the TV. Below provided the most natural 'location' for pointing, where the WiiMote felt more or less on target with on-screen items; however it's low enough on my set that it can be blocked when sitting in certain places on my couch. Above works just as well, but is slightly less natural (a level controller equals upper portion of the screen); it's unblocked from all seating locations, so I kept it there. NOTE: One cool thing I've not seen mentioned before is the 'tactile' feedback when navigating menus. The controller rumbles slightly as you come onto/off onscreen items, it really makes you feel 'at one' with the machine.
After creating some Mii's and browsing the menus for a half hour, I popped in Wii Sports. This truly is the showcase for the control system and while not incredibly 'deep', provides an amazingly fun and satisfying experience. The first few times you swing the tennis racket you can't help but smile. Pulling off most shots is an easy task of learning timing and racket angle, but spins etc. are more challenging to get right. I can definitely imagine a version of Virtua Tennis that is absolutely amazing. Bowling is my other favorite, and as has been posted many times, is the most natural synthesis of the real game. It seems you always put a little left-spin on the ball, unless you 'twist' your arm to keep the controller level and 'out' to the right. After figuring out the best release timing and spin, I was able to pull of some really great splits etc. and shot a 180.
Boxing was better than expected. Not completely responsive, but against the computer you can slow things down a bit and play in a controlled fashion. It's not FIGHT NIGHT, but it makes me want to see that game made for the system. Golf is demanding and difficult, so I only played it for a minute. Baseball is fun, but pitching is pretty boring. Made me long for a version of MVP for the Wii.
After an hour or so with Wii Sports I was completely certain about the Wii's prospects, and that I'd made the right decision bringing it into my house. I haven't had a chance to introduce it to the family, but based on my playtime, I'm confident they will enjoy Wii sports as much or more than me - Nintendo has made a system for gamers and non-gamers alike.
I popped in my only launch title (forgot to pre-order Zelda) MADDEN, and tried it out for a bit. The throwing/control scheme is pretty intuitive, but certainly takes some getting used to. It was getting late, so I didn't play long, but was left with the impression that this is a better-playing version of Madden than the 360/PS3 versions. That said, I only had the basic composite cable connections to my 50"HDTV and Madden was...
UGLY. I'm hoping the cables will sharpen things up a bit, but the graphics were worse than expected.
Suprisingly, I thought Wii sports looked better. Yes the graphics are simple in that game, but everything appeared 'sharp' and 'bright''; I didn't notice that it wasn't HD resolution, I certainly DID with Madden.
All in all, Wii is not the machine to serve as your only next-gen outlet, if your a DSPer. It is a great compliment to the 360 and will almost certainly pull friends and family into your hobby. I'm glad I have it, and look forward to more time with it.

Got to Target at 730 am this morning, but I understood I was number 72 in line for 69 systems. Got out of there quickly, and went to Best Buy in time to be number 62 for 87 systems. I would say they were sold out by 830 (opening at 9). All in all, things were pretty orderly and easy, though they sold out of nunchucks before I could get one. I'll post some impressions this afternoon after some time with it.
Hey Sport...
Great impressions!
I got to Best Buy a bit late this morning and missed out.
Found an EB Games where I could have waited for another 3 hours and be guraranteed a system- however, since they said they had no component cables or Zelda to sell, I decided against it.
But....I will definitely pick up a system in the coming weeks. I am prepared to stick with the Xbox to compliment the Wii and will pass on the other 2 consoles for now. Winning Eleven and the rest should give me my sports fix. I'm just too excited for games like Zelda, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil, Mario, etc...on the Wii...All AAA titles that will be made even more engaging by the Wiimote.

Struck out at Wal-Mart and Circuit City, but was lucky enough to pick one up at TRU. Was second to last in line to get one. Haven't even taken it out of the box yet, but I did purchase an extra remote controller along with Zelda. I'll wait on impressions on Zelda before I decide whether or not to open it.
There were a lot of disappointed people today, but it sounds as if inventory is going to be replenished everywhere within a week's time.
