My wife was very pleased with the Braves - Mets game. Our seats were front row but way down the left field line. But Pedro came out and started stretching and throwing about 5 feet from her seat. So she got to see Pedro up close and personal.
The Clydesdales were also at the game. We stopped out front to see one - my wife also likes horses, so she had to pet the 2000 pound Clydesdale. I was standing there minding my own business when the frigging horse sneezes and a clog of slime about the size of a grapefruit came flying out his nose and right at me. My life flashed before my eyes. I moved quicker than Andruw going after a line drive to avoid getting slimed. No question that those damn Clydesdales are Cardinal fans.
The Braves and Mets fans around me spent most of the game harassing "Mr Hustle" Cliff Floyd.
Damn, you would have thought the game was played on the 4th of July. Navy guys parashooting onto the field before the game, a fly over after the National Athem, fireworks after the game, Clydesdales. Pedro. Smoltz. Made me feel better about spending 6 bucks for a beer.

Went to the Cubs/Pirates game last night.
Both teams couldn't do s*** offensively against stud starters Victor Santos and Sean Marshall.
All things considered, the Cubs are off to a decent start when you consider we have no Prior, Wood, Lee, or Wade Miller. We have (basically) 3 rookies in the rotation, and Zambrano is off to a terrible start.
We are hanging on a thread though. Offense has looked TERRIBLE the last three games.

As much as I dislike the Tigers, I think it's cool to see a team that's been down for so long finally get their sh*t together and become competitive again. Hopefully they can keep it up.laurenskye wrote:Tigers in first!

Besides, the Twins and the Tribe are going to need all the help they can get this year keeping the White Sox from running away with the division.

cant really blame Wags for the blown save on that game.. the conditions were just downright awful to continue to play in.. just wait till Gordon goes "boom"...Sully wrote:Phils blow a 3-0 lead, then rally to win it 5-4. 4 in a row.
Tom Gordon has been outstanding as a closer. 9 saves, sub-1.00 ERA. Wagner just blew another save for the Mets.

Yep... since I'm a kinder and gentler Kaz, I won't call out the names of the numbnuts who doubted that signing, even though Gordon was one of the 2 or 3 top relievers in baseball over the last two years...Sully wrote:Phils blow a 3-0 lead, then rally to win it 5-4. 4 in a row.

I don't see why anyone would doubt Gordon's ability to close. He's been successful in that role in the past, and has been pretty much lights out over the past few years with the Yankees.
He'll be fine as long as he's healthy. Being a closer is probably better for his arm than his old setup role: less IP, fewer appearances, almost no cases of warming up and not getting used.
On the other hand, Jeff Francoeur made it through April without a walk. Will he get a BB before Bonds hits #715?

I like Tom Gordon, but fear that he will wear down once again (if he sees playoff action). I also will never forget tales of Gordon getting sick due to nerves in the 2004 ALCS. It's not like he was a rookie.sfz_T-car wrote:I don't see why anyone would doubt Gordon's ability to close. Wow, that's crazy... even Soriano has 8 walks, and even a two-walk game. Jeff had better get with it!sfz_T-car wrote:I don't see why anyone would doubt Gordon's ability to close. Jeff has issues. He swings at the first pitch in 70% of his at bats. That's just nuts...and it's the primary reason he doesn't get any walks. It really directly results in his horrible batting average too as he is always behind in the count. Remember, he didn't get his first walk last year until around his 100th at bat as well...so it's not like it's something new.
He's gonna need to do something...between him, LaRoche and Giles, the Braves have three starters hitting around .200. As far as I'm concerned, they are lucky to be back only 6 games at this point. The pitching has finally come around, so that's a positive.
