Bring back Norm! They're not even the best Division I team in the state anymore.

I did that for a while and it helped a little bit (not sure if I took it all the way down to -30, though) but I was frustrated by the CPU not swinging at anything outside of the zone. To have them never chase a curve, sinker, or slider when it just misses the zone on an 0-2 count gets frustrating.
I don't know guys, I spent more time with this one over the weekend and I'm just not loving it. It's merely average in my book. The 360 might have something to do with it or maybe the fact that it's not baseball season yet. Might even be a combo of the two but I'm just not feeling this game at all. I'm glad I only paid $20 for it. At $30 I would have felt a little ripped off.

I'd say give it more time. I had those exact feelings until I got used to the game.

I get like 5-10 Ks per game with a decent pitcher. For me, I'm willing to accept the CPU taking pitches out of the zone IF in return I throw more walks per game but also can get strikeouts with good pitches (by being precise with the meter timing). Most of my games I end up getting about 5-10Ks and I issue anywhere from 0-4 walks. I'm cool with that, even if the CPU doesn't bite on bad pitches as much as it should.
they definitley will chase pitches out of the zone on varsity level.
the key for me was not throwing too many strikes. you have to waste
or setup pitches a lot to get them guessing. My guess is you are throwing too many strikes.

did u like MVP05? it's basically the same game with college players, with options for a new hitting and throwing system. I liked it right away, even though I didn't like MVP05 all that much. It just seems to play a more
"pure" form of hardball to me.

my biggest problem with the game is that I can almost always make contact with the ball if I time it right. I am getting a realistic amount
of hits (7-15) per game, but I hardly ever strike out. If I lower the human contact slider or raise the pitch speed, I will K much more, but I
will probably lose every game. I like the default pitch speed for Varsity.
It makes it not so easy to pull the ball.
MizzouRah wrote:So, are most of you guys playing on varsity level.. and "out of the box"?
I'm playing on varsity. At this point I have my power cranked up to 25 and have also added a bit to my contact, but I obviously stink at hitting since I'm not putting too many runs on the board.
For the CPU, I decreased the INF and OF speed and also decreased their contact. From the impressions here, I'll also decrease their swing frequency again in the future.
It seems like a lot of other people are making the pitching meter difficult, too.
I play on Varsity. I decreased AI IF and OF speed and increased AI throw balls to +15 and decreased AI and my pitcher's control to -25.
Decreased pitching meter to -25. Raised AI stealing to +50. Decreased
AI baserunning -10.
the game only needs some minor tweaks. default sliders are pretty good.

Quick question about pitching - how much are you guys 'loading' each pitch? In order to save stamina, I tend to tap the button instead of throwing the ball hard on each pitch.

I thoroughly enjoyed MVP 05 Jack. This version just feels like a step back to me. The graphics took a hit, the presentation took a hit, and some of the nagging issues I've had with the MVP series are still there (lack of walks, cpu pitchers not throwing many balls, fielders momentum, etc...). I'm sure slider adjustments can fix some of that but I've been so underwhelmed with the whole experience I don't have the motivation to mess with sliders.

I always try and get at least close to the red area. I found that if I only go halfway or less, I get hammered. I think it makes your pitches more effective to get close to the red area.
I moved up to AA last week. I started off 0-6, but won my first game after switching over to zone hitting. I just can't hit on AA using L&F.
This game is a blast. I can't say enough for how refreshing it is to be playing with made up players and (some) fictional stadiums. If 2k6 turns out to be a dud, at least I have a new baseball game that will keep me happy. Between this and MVP 05 for pro ball, I'm set for the season.

That probably helps explain some of my struggles. Might cheat a bit to increase my stamina so my top starters can easily get through 5 or 6 innings of efficient pitching without being drained.
I have recently begun making some really unique, but fairly janky stadiums to play in. Tall walls with short porches, short walls at deep power alleys, etc. I found that the small stadium template looks almost just like my DIII college's stadium, so that is cool.
thats what I did. I only go a little less than red when I HAVE to throw a strike.

I played some MVP05 again last night just to compare and I really missed the analog throwing and the load and fire hitting. Hard to go back to just pressing buttons now. I wonder if some nut will make major league rostors manually with NCAA and then put them out there to download with Action Replay?
i actually had to go back to the "old style" fielding & hitting (poor, poor me).. i have played about 19 games right now & am 1 game above .500
i will have to try out the L & L hitting again soon, but it doesnt feel right for me now (probably cause i still play MVP 05 as well).. still liking this game immensly...
Thanks to btmmayor for the link to the coupon and to sportdan30 for the info on BB in Chesterfield. They had plenty of copies today and this was the last day for the coupon.

I'm back to the old style for both hitting and fielding as well. I love that system from last year and it feels right in this game as well. I still hate the slow jogs when catching pop flies, there's drama in very few fly balls.
I like the feel of the game better than MVP 05 for some reason. Something about smashing a ball into a farmer's field.
pigpen81 wrote:Guys, the trick to L & F is to press down to load, then left for inside RH swing, right for outside RH swing, and up for down the middle.
You will have much more success then trying diagonal Up/Left or diagonal Up/Right.
Once you get the feel, it is awesome.
Give it some more practice.
Definately. Have you messed with the L&F sliders Pigpen?

Um yeah. I already knew about that trick, and tried it. L&F still doesn't work well for me. I'm treating it like the first year of MVPs now "classic" system. It works, but I have a feeling it's not as good as it will be next year. It's a good start, but for me zone hitting it working much better.
I think part of it has to withthe different stabces, and my own personal feel for when to load & fire. In real games, some guys are cocked back before the pitch even leaves the pitchers hand. Other guys wait longer. With MVP 06 I'm feeling almost like I have to adjust my timing to the hitter's stance. It's a great idea, but right now I'm not getting it. Of course, it took me a while to get the old system, but right now I just want to have some fun.
