After not struggling with my swing in awhile, this morning in the daily it came back. One of the most frustrating rounds yet. And I had two iron shots that inexplicably went half the distance intended, this with a good swing. Combined with this greens and the ball rolling off the edges and shots going awry - yuck. Finished +1

I am batching it this weekend and hoping we can do this sometime this weekend as I was out to dinner last night with a client. Would love to play a few rounds with some of you and get to know you a bit better as I am pretty much a noob at DSP online H2H matches in any game....

Yeah, it's odd. Sort of what Diablo was saying when he played the daily and when the 3 of us where playing Pinehurst. Remember when I double bogeyed on 8th? With a smooth swing my shot just flew over the greens and almost OB. The wind was around 10mph but my iron shot felt like it was carrying a rocket.

I posted the following in EA Sports Tiger Woods 13's "online play" forum. I had asked a question about how private club rooms created in the "Difficulty" lobby on XBL. To those of you who joined in last night, see if this lines up with what you experienced. I did see that at one time MERACE and 10sPro were still in the DSP C Club lobby, without an "in game" icon out to the right of their name, yet they were showing that they were "playing online" at Greenbriar. Were you guys playing the weekly when that was reported? If so, I thought it was odd that you both were still listed in the club lobby.

Anyway, to the post:

I ran an experiment last night to see how private rooms work. I created a room in the "Difficulty" sub-room of the Tiger 13 lobby on XBL. I then sent out a group message to all the members of my club. I created a game and while I was responding to messages in response to my alert message, I accidentally backed out of the game I'd created, and the club room. When I came back to the room, the next room member (in alphabetical order) was now listed as the room host. Since a few of the club members weren't on his Friend's list, they couldn't get in.

We then backed everyone out and started over. I then found that once a game gets launched, the players who are engaged in a game have the familiar 'ball on a tee' icon out to the right of their name, as long as the game was launched from within the room. We couldn't have a voice chat while in the club room, so I used my preset text messages to communicate information. I could have gone Live Chat, but that introduces a lot of confusion and crosstalk once individual matches get underway.

My last concern was what happens to the room while the original host was in game. The room is still there as long as there is at least one member still in the room lobby, or a game underway which was launched from the room. Unfortunately, when the club room game you were playing is finished, you aren't returned to club room lobby, you go back to the Tiger 13 main menu!? This would work a lot smoother if it would put you back in the room from which the game was launched.

For this to work flawlessly, everyone in the club needs to have everyone else in the club on their friend's list, otherwise they can't get in the room. That's easily remedied though. The other option would be to set up a password protected room, but then you're left with trying to administer and communicate password information which probably winds up being more trouble.

My conclusion is that the privately created club room winds up doing what I *thought* the Online Country Club's head to head lobby would do. It would be so much simpler if that lobby was truly private. I tried hosting club matches there the first week the game was out and the matches are open to everyone on XBL who's searching for a match :-o :?

Anyway, I hope this makes sense. It's a solution we can live with, but there's so much room for improvement in the way this works. This is something EA Sports needs to work on to facilitate head to head clubplay, since the OCC's seem to have become such a hit with gamers.

I'd be up for it, but I'm working nights Friday through Sunday, which reminds me that I'd better get busy playing my weekly rounds!

John, I was playing the daily at Pinehurst before I headed to the club so it's weird that it showed me at the Greenbrier as I already finished all 4 rounds there. Strange.

Okay, it could be that I was remembering Hogz' as being shown at Greenbriar instead of you. This was all after we had all played at least one round. I know when I noticed this, it was after Leadfoot, Merace, and myself had finished a 3 player simultaneous match at Royal Melbourne. I was setting up another match for Leadfoot and myself, but he had seen that you and Merace (along with others) were still in the club lobby without an icon to the right of your name. He was wanting to hang on for you guys to join, but I had already checked your gamercards to see that you were playing online at what I thought was Greenbriar, but it may have been a different course you were actually playing. I'm pretty sure Merace was showing Greenbriar though...

You had your game on last night for sure! Our sudden death match was truly epic, even though the hole at which my heroics kept the match alive turned out to be the hole where I wound up losing the match. It was weird how we played the same hole three times in 13 holes of matchplay, but that's one of the things that makes matchplay so special.

Oh guys, one little bit of psychological gamesmanship that Leadfoot was using on me in simultaneous mode play... he'd hit his approach shot while I was zoomed-in and targeting. That way I could get an up close and personal look at the laser guided missiles he was throwing at the pin. I'm watching this blue tracer come in and go past the hole, hop on the collar and then spin back to within 5 feet of the hole! You go back to address your shot and wonder... "how can I match that!?"

If I was ever actually able to complete a weekly without the freezes (5 attempts and 5 failures so far), I would definitely be leading that category. I know in at least two Weeklys you were scoring well ahead of me. I guess maybe that is the only saving grace of continuing to be DQ'd is that it is not tracking that stat for me. ;)

Is there a trick that I have not yet figured out that allows you to play a round quickly? It usually takes me around 40-45 minutes per round. Last night I tried to play a round as fast as I could (no practice swings, minimal shot setup, etc.) and the best I could do was 32 minutes, and my score definitely suffered because of it.

Use the Y button during your shot to speed up the rendering of the flight of the ball.

Like Divot said, press Y after each shot. I hardly ever watch my ball flight during offline play. Grind, grind grind!!!! I can get 3 rounds done in an hour.

EDIT: And what the heck is a practice swing? 8) Grip it and rip it!!

My average round is about 30 - 32 minutes. I can crank one out in 25 minutes if I'm in a hurry, but I will make careless mistakes that I'll regret making when I do.

BTW Leadfoot, I noticed that our epic matchplay match didn't get credited last night. I wonder if that's because it went extra holes, or maybe I slipped and made it an unranked match? I was being careful to make sure that all the matches I set up were ranked last night, but I'm not 100% I couldn't have slipped and inadvertently toggled it. That was far too significant a game to not be recorded in the annals of cyber-golf history 8) :!:

Bummer.... Oh well, maybe the golf gods decided we both deserved to win equally and decided it was best to strike it from formal record... Because that chip-in?? Come on!! You deserved to win after that!

Yes, I went and played my 2nd round of the weekly. I only have -20 more strokes to catch up to Leadfooft5. 8O

BTW, I went silent on you guys during our H2H round due to my cordless microphone crapping out on me again. I bought a new one today so that next time I play with you guys you'll be able to hear me bitching and moaning about my substandard playing abilities.

Hopefully the memories of that match will help erase my horribly bad play most of Thursday and early Friday morning. I've suddenly forgotten how to putt and hit the mid-range pitches again. Let's see, I had a 5-putt geen on the second hole at Valhalla, followed by two 3-putts. Left two 80 yard pitching wedge approaches 20 yards short, overcooked who knows how many 60-100 yard approaches by 20 yards, played the par 5's in 1-over par at Greenbriar tonight after 4-putting one of them for bogey, 3-putting two of them for par. I had four 3-putts and one 4-putt at Greenbriar all alone. And missed an 18" putt for birdie at Greenbriar to add insult to injury.

This is a crazy game. It has its "zone" and if you're not in it... you're really not in it. I had no confidence in the short approach shots I was hitting most of the day, as I felt like I couldn't manage the length of my backswing very well. I was just "searching" most of the rounds I played in that span. And putting? I had no distance control whether I was using TSC or PPRM technique. The 4-putt I had for bogey at Greenbriar was from 20 feet, and the bogey putt wound up being a 10 footer... sheesh, what a day  I can't complain because this is so much like my real golf game. My confidence can become derailed so easily. Ultimately, it is experiences like this that will prevent me from becoming bored with the game.

I could hear it while it was on it's last legs. I thought it was my cord coming loose for a while. I'm not terribly pleased with the last stock Microsoft headset I bought last week. The plug doesn't fit the jack on the controller snugly and it's prone to giving me some static.
I bought a new one today so that next time I play with you guys you'll be able to hear me bitching and moaning about my substandard playing abilities.
Did you go with the standard Microsoft wireless? I came close to buying one last week, but the more recent reviews I've read of them haven't been all that favorible. I wish I could get the game audio right with my son's Tritton AX Pro headset because the chat quality is incredible! I just can't stand the idea of wearing a full-fledged headset when I'm having to hear the game audio over my speakers. I'm not sure what's going on that's preventing the game audio from being heard through the headset unless it's a problem in my slim profile A/V adaptor.

It's a good thing I wasn't wired for chat most of the day yesterday... it wouldn't have been G-rated 8O :)

Made the mistake of trying to cram 3 rounds of the weekly in last night while falling asleep and not playing for a week. I was -3, -3 and -2. In all of those rounds at one point I was -7 or better. I just usually came to a green and 4 putted due to the over exaggerated fast green setting. It didn't help in the last round I fell asleep 3 times during it.

My biggest issue with this game is putting. The putter never seems to reflect what I am doing with the stick. I actually think the putting with Kinnect is far better.

You guys want to test your mettle? Try the Ace Weekly at River Highlands on the XBL Weekly. I had a 6 under and 5 under par round, yet still finished at only 2 under par. The course is just fabulous, but the trick is the wind. They blew steadily from 14 to 29 MPH throughout. There are currently only 27 entrants and the leader is a meager 28 under par :D

Hey guys -

Was browsing a different forum and picked up a couple of hints that I think I am going to apply to my game.

1) The CAG "Spin" rating. I had noticed that the the rating I have now (82) wasn't producing any different results than it was at about 60 or so. Then I read this: "On TP/Tournament... Spin does not have much effect unless you hit with a fast tempo... with a slow or perfect tempo... it simply will not spin much anyway" Considering that 99% of my shots are slow, I think I'm going to put the XP I'm clearly wasting on Spin somewhere else!! Apparently, when playing on the lower skill levels, you can induce some wicked spin with a "fast" tempo shot.

2) Course Management. I always complain that my short game sucks. That shots from 25 to 75 yards are an adventure. Well, I just read a post where the player said he tries to play most shots to 150yds to the green, unless driving the green is possible. Doh!! I feel stupid for not thinking of this before. I'm going to see if this change of strategy improves my scores.

That is the kind of stuff that boggles my mind. Why anyone would do this is beyond me. Just my two cents.

Closer isn't always better. Some people have a comfort zone and a yardage that they have the perfect club for. I don't play that way in the game, but I'd much rather be at the 150 markers in real life than about 75 yards away from the pin.
