RIP Sir Bobby Robson

RIP Sir Bobby Robson

A proper gentleman of the game, managed England as well as managing a small town club (Ipswich) to domestic and European honours, winning the title in Portugal and trophies in Spain with Barcelona. Just a shame his last port of call was Newcastle, where he was treated abysmally.
"The players come from all over the world, the money from deep underneath the Persian Gulf, but, as another, older City poster campaign put it, this is their city. They may now exist in the global spotlight, but they intend to keep it that way."

Well said, Dave. I obviously don't have the depth of knowledge or experience with Robson of you, but his continued infatuation with the game was so obvious when he was on the touchline at Newcastle, even at age 70.

RIP, Sir Bobby.

Take care,
PK

I've read countless tributes and obits online today from various British papers and Web sites and also watched Sky Sports News, and not an ill syllable has been spoken about Sir Bobby.

While hardly any public figure rips the dead immediately after their passing, what's even more telling is that the comments from fans attached to those stories are ALL respectful and praising, regardless of which club or country they support.

A measure of the man.

Take care,
PK

From what I've read, he was the fecking man. Period.

Season finally starts for real on Sunday with Bayern in the German Cup. Next week, PK gets a taste of Championship football.

And with that, we end this soccer thread. I'll start a new one.
