For those getting a 360 on launch (or shortly thereafter)

Well, my wife struck out at Target. She missed by 4 when they gave out tickets. What strikes me as odd is that they had 18 units but only 4 of the 399 versions and they told people that they had no hard drives, so people expecting to get the other version and a hard drive were out of luck - at least at Target. Evidently, that is true at other Atlanta area Targets. A lot more core systems than deluxe systems.
Well, I f***ed up big time and slpet through my alarm. Got up at 6 and headed to the new Circuit City, where the line was surprisingly short. Felt good. I was told by the guys in the line that I was #18. Having spoken on the phone to a girl in customer service at that store the night before, I was under the impression that they had at least 20 units, maybe as many as 35-40. A guy camy up behind me in line, and said he had been at the other CC a few miles away and that they only had 23 units. Feeling great!
Then the manager came out and, having gone in the back and counted, told us they had 12. 12! That's as many as the CompUSA was getting! Unbelievable.
The BB with the 9A opening had already given out all their tickets by 11pm. By the time I got to the CompUSA, I was #15, and I knew they only had 12.
So I headed waaaaaay down the road to the nearest Sears. Got there and there was no line. But a sign on the door noted that they were only getting in 2 machines. 2! One wonders what's the point of getting any if you can only get 2. Anyway, got in there, found the manager talking to two other guys, and he said they got. . . . none.
Oh well. MS says they plan to sell 3mil. in the next 90 days.

So, everyone on here knows I've resigned not to get the 360 until 2006. Well, just as I'm about to leave for work, Mike @ my local TRU calls and says they got their shipment in and they got ONE 360 without the bundle. Am I still interested? With my wife right next to me, I undecidedly say no. Ooooh brother.
I'm already running late for work, and my wife is asking me if I really want it. I said, sure it'd be nice but it's not like it's going to kill me if I don't get one now. However, she can sense my somewhat disappointing voice. Says to call him back and this will definitely be my Chanakah gift...my only gift. I call the number back on the caller i.d. and I get the automated recording that the store is closed. F&*K!
Without thinking, I kiss the kids and wife goodbye and drive 3 minutes away to the TRU that just called me. Gonna be late for work now for sure! There's a few older adults (i'm talking 50 plus) waiting for the store to open at nine. I peep in through the doors and see that there are people inside stocking shelves and what not. I pull open the door to just the inside of the lobby. Not in the store, but I'm visible to the employees. A girl comes up to the door and I ask for Mike (the guy who called me). She comes back and says he'll be right up. I wait a good five minutes. Another gentleman comes to the door and lets me in. I'm thinking, great I'm gonna get one. I see Mike but he's all in disaray and confused about the organization. The registers aren't on, so he can't take my order....yet. I give him my name and tell him my wife will be back after work. Too late he says. Gotta be there between 9-11 am. Thankfully, the wife is willing to go back to get the 360 for me.
I don't have it but I'm very close. If something falls through the cracks, then that's life. I wasn't planning on getting it after TRU had told me a few weeks ago I had to get the bundle.

Wow, so much for "reassuring your feelings" on passing on the 360...hope you're making the "right decision".sportdan30 wrote:So, everyone on here knows I've resigned not to get the 360 until 2006. Got up at 2:30, went to check out Best Buy. Over 100 people there. No way I'm getting one.
Another BB-this crowd was bigger.
Went to a Target right by the BB. No one there. My friend and I started our own line. Some people showed up. A couple hours passed, with about 10-12 in line. A couple more hours later, they announce that there are only 4 (!) premium 360's, but since we were there first, I was able to snag one!
I think it's strange that many of the dozens of people who camped overnight didn't get one at BB, but if they walked a few doors down to Target, they would have easily had one spending a fraction of the time they did at BB.
I consider myself very lucky.

If I can make double what I paid for it, then heck yeah I'll sell it. It's not as though I sat out in the cold last night for a few hours. Don't know if it's legit or not, but people are selling theirs on ebay for a grand.MizzouRah wrote:What? You went though all of that to get one and now you're selling it?sportdan30 wrote:Just listed it on ebay. Curious to see what I'll get for it.
Plus, it's not like I'm jonesing to play it right NOW. I could ultimately wait until the beginning of the year if I have to.
I'm caught up in all the hype but when it comes down to it, why get the system now. This is one of the weakest launches I've seen in a while. Not in terms of games but it terms of quality. No real system sellers and graphical upgrades of previous games.
If I LOVE NCAA and can't stand Madden there's no incentive. I don't like basketball so NBA 2k is out, even though it appears to be a solid title. Though not a system seller. For sports titles, we can see how the exlucusive licenses have thinned out games for the consoles. If there was not an exclusive license, I'd bet we would see a NFL 2k game for the 360.
Not only that but what's the incentive to get next year's sports games. If Madden is parsed this much was is NCAA going to look like. Right now for me, it seems like a lot of money for a DVD player. Strangely I still want one.

Wow, I really didn't expect this for launch. I can't believe there's been lines since 7:00 am yesterday in some places and that Best Buys have lines of over 100. I thought it might be like the PSP launch where you could walk into a Target or Comp USA and buy 10 of them if you wanted to. No news from db at this point (9:19 his time right now) might be bad news for him. Hopefully he had better success than Zep did. Hopefully Zep lucks out somehow today as well.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

That's assuming that they aren't available. I think by Xmas we'll see tight supply but if you want one you should be able to get it.10spro wrote:Sports, anything is legit if you can get the real $$$.. I would post it on ebay around the 2nd week of DEC, close to Xmas, people tend to be more desperate to pay for what they really can't find.

Not gonna happen. Today I will be driving with my folks down to Durham/Chapel Hill NC, to be at mys sister's/bro. in law's house for T-giving. This is also part of the pre-order issue with me. Even if I had been #1 on the list at my local store (just to reiterate the insanity of MS/GameStop/EB's launch, my store had 270 preorders and was told 10 days before today they would receive 58 ), I would have been out of luck as I am not near there to pick it up.ScoopBrady wrote:Hopefully Zep lucks out somehow today as well.
As it is, I f***ed up royally by sleeping through the alarm. Had I been at that CC one hour earlier than I got there, I would have gotten one of the 12. Of course, calling to find out how many they have and being told defintiely more than 20, more like 40, certainly really pisses me off when it turns out they are only selling 12.
Whatever. I'm p'ed off but half at myself for not stying out last night and not waking up to my alarm, half at MS for doing a worldwide launch and so poorly allocating systems to various chains.
Maybe by February I will be able to get my hands on one. Maybe. 270 pre-orders is a lot to fill if they only get 8 or 10 each shipment, and aren't being told when those shipments will be!
