Here a video of some of my favorite goals I've scored so far in Ultimate Team on the Xbone. It's probably too long but I enjoy it :D . Nothing really spectacular, but the last one is my favorite I think.

It's good for me to have around so when I'm in the midst of an awful slump of atrocious, losing play, I can remind myself I actually have scored goals in this game. :)

I recently picked up Fifa for the One mostly out of "i want something else to play" boredom.

In the past I have picked up a version or two of the game but never really got into it.

For a footie newb like me, is there a good place to pick up some tips and such? I'm trying to be manly and have all the assists off. I'm making out good, the only thing I might do is turn on some assistance for crossing to generate a few more chances, as right now I"m not really getting any.

I'm also poking away at the skill drills, and have actually beaten some of you guys on the leaderboards lol. But some of the drills I just find impossible! But i'm taking them more as a chance to learn some of the nuances.......

stick w/ the drills, they're good to learn the game and the various moves. you only need to know one move and the different style of passes to be good at the game.

Some nice goals there Zeppo. "Goalmouth scramble" doesn't even begin to describe the chaos leading up to that last goal :P

A couple of cool free kicks too. What shooting settings are you using?

Gangrel, I'm on the 360 version (which I think is a very significant update to Fifa 13, though by all accounts not as good as the next gen versions) and I use all manual settings apart from semi-assisted shooting and crossing. I think Fifa really shines with manual passing. I don't play online but I'd've thought any kind of manual settings would be a disadvantage against human-controlled opposition so if you're winning games online with those settings, you don't need tips, at least not from me.

I find some of the mini games brutally hard, especially at the higher levels, but they're a very fun lead in to matches.

Thanks, rhymes. I play almost exclusively online, and I have everything set to assist. I had some things set to semi for a while, but the frustrations were just too much. So much of the time in FUT you end up facing teams with insanely expensive, super powered players, so I need all the help I can get.

I'm sure the game would prove to be very rewarding and ever more realistic with full manual settings, but the arena in which I traffic is the mega popular FUT world where it's very much an arcade experience. That said, this next-gen version rewards smart, patient play more than any other FIFA I can remember. Despite 10sPro's complaints of too-easy header goals, I feel like when I am sharp and playing well, I can play to my strengths (massive possession advantage, short passing mixed with over the top home run balls, and patient defending) and beat teams full of much better players than I could ever afford.

FUT Online Seasons mode is for my money the most fun and amazing forum for fair and exciting online sports game play versus randoms, with lots of room for personality expressed through squad builds, formation choices, and play style. And the game never ceases to amaze me with goals I've never seen before cropping up consistently.

Excellent compilation, Zep.

I scored a nice volley with Hamsik this weekend.

I'm recording them in-game with the "xbox record that" voice command, and sometimes the game will record a goal on its own if it's a volley or otherwise meets whatever criteria the devs have set into the game. Then I used Upload Studio app on Xbone to edit them together into the clip, and saved the final edit to the OneDrive, downloaded it to my laptop and finally uploaded it to youtube. I'd assume the PS4 has some similar operations available, but I'm not sure, and without the voice commands I wouldn't be sure how to quickly record something during an online game.

Some nice goals there Zep and Rob. I will get back eventually to some online FUT seasons but after being stuck in division 6 for a bit, I was tired of seeing cross after cross ending up at the back of my net. Like Zeppo, I prefer a touch and go, slow passes in order to build for an opener but in online FUT everything is about speed. My settings are at 'Air Balls' for auto switching, move assistance 'None', passing power 'None' and only shot assistance on 'Assist'. Maybe I should switch back to 'Assist' on passes and thru-balls and see if my play is more consistent.

Here's a good guide for those of you just starting the game.

http://www.futhead.com/guides/122/fut-1 ... ow-to-win/ (notice the part where it says easy goals even if you suck... :) my dreaded headers  )

I've been playing World Cup 14 lately on the 360 and 'Captain your Nation' mode is quite addictive. Visually is a let down compared to the X1.

Between watching a fun KC Sporting win over Columbus yesterday and the recent activity in this thread, I've now jumped on board with FIFA. I'm a total soccer noob, but I'n slowly picking up the strategies and how to use them.

It is a lot to take in when I don't have a feel for what is aggressive, what is used to protect leads, what tactics are good to counter my opponent's, and how to judge what kinds of players are good in which systems. but taking some time in the skills has clued me in some stuff, like why on my super hard shots sail over the net!

But I am getting a grasp on how to move the ball upfield without turning it over every time. I'm not sure if I should play MLS, of if I would be better off going with better leagues and better player for learning the game.

The second one.

And I'm probably the biggest fan of MLS you will find here or frankly anywhere: season ticket holder to the MetroStars / RBNY since day one, nearly never miss a home game, watch every away RBNY game on TV usually at a bar with other fans, and I even watch the occasional other MLS game. You don't want to play those teams in this game.

I actually use RBNY quite often in the Online Seasons mode, because that mode matches you up with opposing teams of a similar quality. But that's because I really, really like the team! But if you are just getting a handle on the gameplay, you want the quality of really good players at your disposal, or the frustration factor, which is naturally present in any soccer game, will be through the roof. It's hard enough to score in a soccer video game even when you have a good idea of what you're doing. You don't need the extra frustration of using bad players when you're just starting to figure it out.

That said, it's always better to have some knowledge of the players you are playing with, so dabbling in some MLS play with your Sporting KC could be a decent idea for you. It's hard to learn what players are good for what just from playing FIFA and not watching real soccer, although that can certainly come the more you play. But as with any sports game, a big part of the magic is translating real life into the game, so if you aren't watching any European soccer at all it may take you a good long while to know who's who.

That draw really put Man City in the driver's seat.

Yeah, I ended up watching some Man City/Everton last night, as I am trying to get a grasp on some of the why's behind what teams do. the number one bell that went off and made me want to try the game was how teams move the ball down the sidelines and try to cross. This seems obvious, but I've spent plenty of time in earlier soccer games frustratingly trying to drive the ball up the middle.

Of course, then I saw Everton doing just that, taking the ball up the middle more than down the sidelines. After awhile I assumed that they were outmatched by Man City outside, and this was their best tactic. The slow part of figuring this out is that I really didn't pick up on the names, and I couldn't tell you know what formations either team was using. So while I pick up some stuff, I'm still not getting all of the context.

The good part is that I'm getting a feel for scoring chances and the excitement, which keeps me watching. It's feeling less and less random.

But thanks for the advice. It makes sense to use teams with players that will put it in the net when I shoot. ;-)

FYI, you can now upload to youtube on your console with the xb1 youtube app. Nice goals.

Had an amazing headed clearance in an online FUT game yesterday. This guy was going ape$hit because he had lousy luck the entire match. And I don't blame him. :)

Incidentally, the video quality sucks when uploading straight to YouTube from the XB1 as opposed to the extra step of using OneDrive first. Won't make that mistake again.

For whatever reason, FIFA 14 has become the first soccer game that has really kept my interest. I'm really digging it.

That said, does anyone else have an issue with the game crashing at the end of FUT matches? It's killing me. It crashes to the desktop and doesn't save my win or loss.

Well, that bites. I played a lot of HUT, and FUT seems to be very similar. They are much better than the versions EA puts out for their other games. The large amount if international players really helps.

But right now, I can't get credit for so much as a single player win, let alone move to the second round of a tourney. It's bad enough that I get kicked out to the dashboard and forced to reboot the game. But to spend that time only to see it didn't track my progress really sucks. It does give me the FUT points I earned, though, so there is that.

I've never has that problem, and I've played a ton of online FUT matches. The only issues I have are in the marketplace, where some searches will result in a failure and send me back to the main FUT menu, but I can't remember one time when after a game I was kicked back to the main menu or the boot screen and it didn't register the result of my game. Weird. It's always been very solid for me.
