Re: MLB 12 The Show
Played my first game on All-Star with pulse pitching, Cards vs Cubs (me), and I lost 3-2 in 12 innings after walking 12 guys and giving up eight hits. Actually walked three guys in a row with Kerry Wood. Loved the difficulty but not really the interface. It doesn't have the fluidity of the meter. I'm going to try it again, though, as I liked that it forced a lot of strategy into the game -- throwing a breaking pitch on a three-ball count actually feels risky.

It's, uh, pretty frickin' wild to have this in the palm of my hands. I mean, jeesh.
The way the ball curves in the air when hit this year! The way it caroms off the bases! The everything!

Re: MLB 12 The Show
2 games under my belt with the Vita version (decided to pick up only this version for now).
What more could you want really....Like others have said, being able play it anywhere on the Vita is just amazing. I should have no problem getting through my Jays season.
Pulse pitching is hard, but I'm going to stick with it. I like the fact that I can totally lose command - makes pitching a lot more tense.
First game - I took a 2-0 lead over the Marlins into the bottom of the 9th (on homers by Arencibia and Thames). Using Santos to close it out, I gave up 4 runs, including a 3-run shot by Morrison. Welcome to the big leagues for me.
I then lost 5-3 using the Giants in Yankee stadium. I gave up 5 runs with Bumgarner in the first 2 innings but shut them down the rest of the way. Progress.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
I know I've said it, but it can't be stated enough. The amount of customization with this game is fantastic. Last night, I switched back to zone, but I can't stand the yellow splotch. I guess I should have realized, but soon discovered that you can turn that off and still use the left stick for zone hitting. Maybe it was a aberation, but moving from timing to zone opened up a hit parade as I homered with Beltran, hit a ground rule double with Holliday, and lined a single to center with Freese. I then proceeded to only manage two more hits from the sixth inning on...ah well! I love zone hitting though.
While the broadcast commentary isn't on the level I wish it was, I'm still amazed at some of the comments made over the course of the game. They've added just enough that it feel a bit fresher than past versions. I'm looking forward to starting a season and hearing little tid bits about my team or player's progression.

I LOVE the Vita version but I really wish they had custom cameras. My favorite pitching view is the elevated straight away center field camera. Its there on some of the teams broadcast views (Boston for one), but I would like that camera all of the time.
I guess a really minor complaint given how fantastic it is. The new ball physics really make the game.

I actually like how the broadcast cameras are different for each team. Makes it cool to go to different ballparks to get a little different perspective when pitching.btmmayor wrote:I LOVE the Vita version but I really wish they had custom cameras. Agree. However, I was shocked how off center the Pirates broadcast cam is! I suppose I'd get used to it if I were a fan, but it's definitely one of my least favorites!dbdynsty25 wrote:I actually like how the broadcast cameras are different for each team. I'm loving the PS3 Version(missing some workout sessions because of it) but damn you guys are making me want to pick up a vita for it, much sooner than I had anticipated. Must stop reading vita impressions.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
I had a bug in the Vita version last night in RTTS.
I was at bat and the pitch came in and I took it and then everything disappeared except for my guy and the plate coverage indicator. I actually had to turn off the game to get out of it.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
Not a whole lot more I can say than what has already been said. This is a fantastic game of baseball.
My fun in sports games comes from realism and this game just nails it. The makers all have to be serious baseball fans. The presentation is awesome, it looks beautiful and the gameplay is spot on. I very rarely ever say "that just does not happen in real baseball".
I play with a pretty basic setup. Pitching I tried pulse and analog and I just don't like looking at something other than the pitcher. Of the two though I did like analog better but will stick with classic. Reminds me of High Heat anyways.
Hitting I like zone. I do like analog with zone but just cannot do it for a full 9 innings. Plus I seem to be more patient with zone hitting and I can lay off pitches better.
Defense has changed again this year but for the better. Defense used to be very boring, everyone had the same skills. Now you can certainly tell the difference in defensive abilities. Also, momentum is huge this year. No more stopping on a dime and firing. You need to plan better on defense this year. With two outs and a man on first, Fielder hit a drive to left center, Stubbs(me) took a bad angle and dropped it. Lead to 4 runs. I use analog throwing and real enjoy defense now.
I love baseball. Love to watch it, coach it, play it. I put this game in knowing and accepting it will take me close to 90 minutes to finish a game and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I like the commentary too.. I have heard them talk about Berkman twice now (same lines) when he's not even up to bat.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
Using the offset camera to bat so far. Love using contact swing to hang in there when down 0-2, sometimes fight back to a walk, at least grind out a decent at bat.
Re: MLB 12 The Show
Yeah, this and the physics are what really stand out for me. I've been playing a lot of Strat-O-Matic with my boys and when I'm playing the Show someone will make a great play and I'll think..."makes sense...he is a 1e4 fielder" or if someone trips and falls down I'll think "oh that's what you get for playing a 4 in right field." It really makes the game that much more realistic and fun.Pete wrote:Defense has changed again this year but for the better. Defense used to be very boring, everyone had the same skills. I can't really add much to the discussion other than I am just in awe about how great this game is. I barely even touched video games for the past few months and now this came out and is making me find an hour or two each night.
Re: MLB 12 The Show
I love the contact swing, too. Use it in that situation and in ones where I need to maximize the chances of putting the ball in play.Slumberland wrote:Using the offset camera to bat so far. I may try the offset camera for hitting. I like the default but struggling a bit to judge velocity. Can't tell if it's the camera, lack of practice, or old age.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
One of the coolest things to see with regards to the ball physics is that the ball doesn't just roll straight into the outfield...it takes some different hops in the outfield grass like it would in real life. It's the first game I've seen that outside of the first bounce or two in the outfield, doesn't just make the ball roll on a flat plane to the outfield wall. Genius.
Re: MLB 12 The Show
Yeah, I noticed that right away and while it's kind of subtle, it's a huge change. I hit a double with a right-handed batter down the right-field line, and the way it bounced just fair past first base, kept hooking into the bullpen area at Wrigley, and bounced around a bit was incredible. It looked so real.dbdynsty25 wrote:One of the coolest things to see with regards to the ball physics is that the ball doesn't just roll straight into the outfield...it takes some different hops in the outfield grass like it would in real life. Last year made a pretty big leap in terms of the variety of hit locations -- it was much less HR or station-to-station singles. With that advance coupled with the ball physics, I can already tell hitting and fielding are going to be a lot more interesting this year.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
Yeah, I've noticed that if you preload throws when you're charging a ball, especially with stiffs like Dan Uggla, it's got a really high rate of being an error. Best to just charge the ball, catch it then throw. Just like real life. Sh*t like that is clearly NOT in 2k12, yet it doesn't seem important to anyone who likes that game. I just don't get it. Maybe I just hate arcade baseball.Brando70 wrote:Last year made a pretty big leap in terms of the variety of hit locations -- it was much less HR or station-to-station singles.
