Classic teams (Bulls excluded) only have the starting fives though... bench players are generic. Maybe not in all cases? Not sure. But mostly.

I'm sure they just got cheap so that they didn't have to pay all of the licensing stuff. Doesn't bother me really.Slumberland wrote:Classic teams (Bulls excluded) only have the starting fives though... bench players are generic. Maybe not in all cases? Not sure. But mostly.

That's true - but I think some people over at OS are working on filling the rosters the rest of the way.Slumberland wrote:Classic teams (Bulls excluded) only have the starting fives though... bench players are generic. Maybe not in all cases? Not sure. But mostly.
Anyone else played against the "Human Highlight Reel" yet? And not in the Jordan challenge mode - just a regular game. He was truly a human highlight reel against me...I think every one of his two point buckets was a dunk. After about the 3 or 4th I thought I should double him, but resisted because I wanted to try to stop him mano a mano. He ended up in the high 30's with a couple of three balls thrown in for good measure. And they came back and beat me at the end to make it worse.
I think I could get my fill just by playing with the classic teams. Would definitely possibly pay for a add-on that added more classic teams.

Does it put the play design on the floor? I understand basketball but never could memorize the plays so I quite playing BB games.TCrouch wrote:I'm not either, Rodster. But this game really teaches you about hoops as you go. I've gone from "Run around with Kobe and look for a miracle shot" mode to actually running plays as I go down the floor. I can recognize when they're doubling Kobe and when to call a play for Fisher to get him an open look on the double. I can see when they start pressuring the perimeter and running stuff underneath to Bynum and Gasol. Granted, it makes it considerably easier since I'm a Lakers fan, but I've never really understood basketball until now. That has been well documented.Rodster wrote:Sh*t I may have to rethink this purchase. I have to play 2K10 on default or I lose badly. I'm not very good at BB games.
I think what cracks me up the most is the evolution this game has forced me to go through. DB nailed it. I found myself trailing the Kings by double digits--DOUBLE DIGITS--because I wasn't paying attention to my execution properly for a few runs. I was so focused on running the play that I didn't seem to notice the AI defenders sitting there waiting on a pass. That's where I'm at now. Starting to understand what I want to do better, and now trying not to get so focused on it that I ignore the defense and end up with a string of turnovers.
If you like basketball, I don't see how you can NOT buy this.
Re: NBA2k11
You can turn them off, but it does put the play designs on the floor if you want 'em (I do).JRod wrote: Does it put the play design on the floor? I understand basketball but never could memorize the plays so I quite playing BB games.
Re: NBA2k11
I wonder why more sports games don't include the classic teams. They're a blast to play with, and I can't imagine those old timers (or their estates) would be that expensive to sign. I'd love to play a baseball game that used some old Cards' teams from the 80s, or a football game with the starting Steelers' lineup from the 70s (wouldn't even care which year).TheTruth wrote: I think I could get my fill just by playing with the classic teams. I'll have to check again but I think 2K10 had this feature too.GTHobbes wrote:You can turn them off, but it does put the play designs on the floor if you want 'em (I do).JRod wrote: Does it put the play design on the floor? Re: NBA2k11
Probably because of the trouble to license them. It's my understanding they have to license each individual player. Wasn't this the issue with past Madden classic teams. Even putting just the number and similar skills was enough of a likeness. I'm sure someone better at Google can pull up this case.GTHobbes wrote:I wonder why more sports games don't include the classic teams. Which what I don't get is how text games get away with this. So a visual likeness is not okay but his name with stats and abilities are. Since attributes are subjective, I guess a player doesn't own them.
I would pay for a baseball game, that had caricatures of players. I do wish there was a MLB Show: Old Time Baseball Game.
I could see more companies take NBA's approach and just create "moments". So say there's "The Drive" game. Or the Bills first Super Bowl. Stuff like that.
NBA2k, with their Jordan idea, I think kick started something in sports games and offered a true revolutionary idea.

Re: NBA2k11
Why do you keep bringing up 2k10? Who cares? We're talking about 11 now. I know, it hasn't hit 20 bucks yet so you can buy it, but yes...play designs on the courts have been around for the last couple years. Yippee.Rodster wrote:I'll have to check again but I think 2K10 had this feature too.GTHobbes wrote:You can turn them off, but it does put the play designs on the floor if you want 'em (I do).JRod wrote: Does it put the play design on the floor? Because I haven't had a chance to get the game yet, maybe tomorrow. And some where panning it as a new feature when I stumbled across it the other night playing, that's why.dbdynsty25 wrote: Why do you keep bringing up 2k10? Who cares? We're talking about 11 now. Re: NBA2k11
Who was? They just stated that you could see the plays on the court. Hell, half the people that have the game this year haven't bought a hoops game in years so it's irrelevant what happened in the past iterations. No?Rodster wrote:Because I haven't had a chance to get the game yet, maybe tomorrow. Re: NBA2k11
It's been there for several years, but it certainly didn't mean much. Didn't need to run plays, and stuff didn't seem to work the way that I would expect it to. It never really mattered to me until this year, personally. I'd seen it for a while, though.

It was last year, too. But careful not to say that around db.Wilk5280 wrote:The "My Player" mode of this game is digital crack.

Re: NBA2k11
I am just loving this game. I think the year off of the 2k franchise really helped and obviously including my favorite teams of all-time helps as well.
On a side note, has anybody seen the 2k11 commercial with Kobe? The one where he says that Jordan is back and that he drafted him onto the Lakers. I can't help but feeling that having one with Wade saying that he drafted him onto the Heat followed by him saying "What, too much?" would have been comedy gold.

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.

Pasta padre has posted the code to unlock the Creating a Legend mode, if anyone is interested and hasn't heard by now.

Gonna have to start learning plays or resigning myself to playing with the play art on as I'm getting my arse handed to me on Pro! I guess the days of bringing the ball up the court and passing around until I find a high percentage shot is over. I'm hoping maybe off ball movement may get patched, althought it seems the fan base is divided on whether it's needed or not. Still a great game, but definitely more advanced than 2K10.

Yeah, like any other game/simulation with a thousand moving parts, you can question a thing here or there. But in my heart of hearts, I think I would be disappointed in a gameplay patch, simply out of fear that it would throw anything out of whack.sportdan30 wrote:Gonna have to start learning plays or resigning myself to playing with the play art on as I'm getting my arse handed to me on Pro! Can't remember the last time I said that about a sports game.

The presentation stuff is phenominal. I let my daughter create herself and put her on the Knicks. She loved it when they showed her getting off the bus.

Re: NBA2k11
New roster update is out and there are those complaining it made the game too accessible. Frankly, I'm looking forward to seeing what the new changes do as I was getting quite low shooting percentages. Supposedly, off the ball movement has improved, help defense and transition offense is better. However, there are those saying defense is worse and that it's far too easy to beat your man off the dribble (too many dunks as well).

I can't tell the difference. I'm still getting my a** kicked. Frustrating, but fun game!
