It's a wacky tournament so far. Slovakia is on top of their group which includes Russia. J. Hiller who absolutely stoned the Canadians on Thursday gave away 4 goals to the Norwegians yesterday. Sure, team Canada should be firing on all cylinders after their lackluster performance vs the Swiss, they should be playing mad. But if team USA continues to forecheck hard as they've been doing and using their speed in the neutral zone, they'll be tough to beat.fletcher21 wrote:I think the US is in trouble tonight. Canada played like s*** their last game, and this is against one of their bigger rivals. I see this game ending 5-2 Canada.
Should be a beauty.
That was a great movieDiablo25 wrote:Canada is obviously the favorite...and better team on paper...but the US could definitely win this game. They have been playing well and getting the job done. And lets not forget what happened 30 years ago
Sorry, I just had to.

Too bad we will never see something like that again. Not only would the US winning gold not be a miracle but(the odds are 8-1 for gold) I would be personally surprised if they dont win a medal.

That's pathetic that the West Coast is not getting the Russia/Czech game live. It has been a real good one so far. Glad NBC is using all it's channels to better serve its viewers. CNBC is showing paid programming all afternoon and MSNBC is showing crap documentaries. Surely showing the hockey game live to the West Coast on CNBC wold gain more viewers than some hair loss infomercial.
It's not a knockout stage like soccer. Outside of the top 4 teams, the rest go into a single-elimination stage.
I think the top 4 teams either play the teams which emerge from that side of the bracket or they are able to lose a game and still be in it.
Sound more like a double-elimination with seeded teams which may have byes or some other advantages.

I live in the Boston area and I swear that Mike Eruizone has never worked a day in his life. He is like some special assistant in the BU athletic department and gives motivational speeches.Dave wrote:Anyone else catch the NBC feature about the Miracle on Ice? 1980 was a few years before my time, but I feel the exact opposite after watching it. I feel like they're really digging deep to keep talking about something that happened 30 years ago. Usually it's only losers who live in the past. I feel like if the US team had won it in 94 or 98 that 1980 wouldn't even be a blip on the radar. Not taking anything away from those guys, but it is getting old. I've even read about how the team members feel a bit bitter that they're basically a nobody for 3 years and 11 months, but when the Olympics are back on they are relevant again. Forgive me if I am a bit jaded but I am bored of the 1980 team.Dave wrote:Anyone else catch the NBC feature about the Miracle on Ice? Multiple "chill moments," I thought they did a great job.

Well, considering it was one of the greatest upsets in sports history and took place at a time in which America was in quite a bit of turmoil, it was a pretty big deal. Honestly I don't know where to start in responding to this ultra-stupid f***ed up post other than to say maybe you should pull your head out of your ass on occasion and take a breath of fresh air and reality.fletcher21 wrote:1980 was a few years before my time, but I feel the exact opposite after watching it. I'm well aware of what an upset it was. Don't you think it's a bit tired to hear about it every 4 years? I can almost guarantee if the US had won anything recently it wouldn't be nearly as big of a deal as it is. It's almost embarrassing to me. It was a big event THEN, but 30 years later I think it's time to let it go a bit. Do we really need to hear from Mike Eruzione every 4 years to get his thoughts on 1980? Just seems minor league to me that American media is living in the past.toonarmy wrote:Well, considering it was one of the greatest upsets in sports history and took place at a time in which America was in quite a bit of turmoil, it was a pretty big deal. Coming from a HUGE baseball fan - I rank the US win over Russia as the greatest sporting event I have ever seen. In my small mind it was the greatest sporting event/story of the 20th century. Anyone who was old enough to experience it has some sort of emotional attachment to it. I often tell my history classes if I had a time machine that game is where I would go.
