This smacks of an enormous drama-queen move by Cohen. This ridiculous death spiral between Cohen's obsession with Hillsboro and the idiots reacting to it is laughable.

There is absolutely no justification for LFC, its supporters or anyone else threatening anyone. I think Cohen is wildly overstating the role of LFC itself in this kerfuffle, but it suits his ego and weltanschaung so I'm not surprised.

IMO Cohen's been totally unprofessional by not realizing that he not only crossed the line, but did so repeatedly for absolutely no good reason. He became totally obsessed with an issue that was of absolutely no consequence to 99% of the US soccer audience and which has no bearing whatsoever on the current state of the game itself. And yet he's let this issue become significant enough to kill his livelihood? That is not the sign of an individual operating out of a sound mental state.

Morons on both sides of an issue that is essentially academic. Stupid.

Well if it's true his family was contacted by a bunch of loonies, then I don't think any reasonable "family man" would not do what it takes to protect his family even if it meant giving up his livelihood.

I don't know if he's being a drama queen or what, but if the "ultras" contacted and threatened him what is he supposed to do? And so what if he was obssessed with Hillsboro, it's his show. He could talk about the second division eskimo league if he wanted to. Did it cost him his job, well I think calling L'pool fans or scousers murderers might have done it but again it's his show.

BUT regardless what he said, it's his show and I don't believe he lost advertisers by it. So what does that tell you. A bunch of idoits, like always, ruined it for the rest of us.

I don't like Rush so I don't listen to him but I don't call up a family member. No matter what Cohen said, that's over the line.

It's his show and he can cross that line if he so chooses. It's like getting made at Fox news for being conservative or watching Hardball and getting upset because they bashed Bush. You know going in, that Cohen wasn't the biggest fan of Liverpool.

It's too bad because this was the only outlet we had here in the US on a regular basis.

By the way, it is spelled "Hillsborough".

If the harassing is true. Then typical Scouse.

Squiddy, I was abbreviating H-boro.

JRod,

My point was that these lunatics would never have been mobilized if he hadn't beat a useless dead horse for no particularly good reason for more than two years. I am not justifying their behavior in any way, and I understand why he'd do this now. I'm just saying that if we were apportioning liability for what lead to the demise of this show (if this is indeed the demise), I would certainly lay some fault at the feet of Cohen as well.

I would buy your argument that it's like a political position if the topic were somehow timely or relevant. It is neither. What's more, as a money-making enterprise, I would expect WSD would realize that while it is certainly Cohen's right to make any point that he wishes on his show, the show, its audience and its sponsors might be better served by discussing things (even inflammatory or controversial things) that are relevant to world football today and to the US audience in particular.

As a Liverpool supporter, I expect you guys to think I'm being harder on him than I should. I can't dissuade you of that, but I assure you I'm far, far more pissed that the show is off the air than I have ever been by his comments about LFC. He's clearly unhinged (albeit not as crazy as the LFCNY wackos) when it comes to the topic, so it was all just noise to me.

All in all, after listening to today's show I expect that the show will be back, and sooner rather than later...rendering much of this moot anyway.

Sums it up for me.

And he did lose sponsors. FACT (as Rafa would say).

Pardon my ignorance, but there's either a page missing of this thread or I'm just being a bit slow...what's all this about ?

It's his show. I don't know if he lost sponsors but it's his to see as he likes because at the end of the day he is either owner of it or co-owner.

If he lost sponsors then that hurts his pocketbook. As an audience member it didn't bother me so I continued to listen as did a lot of others. I think the minority here is pro-Liverpool people. This really isn't about his comments so much that a bunch of Liverpool scousers get pissed off that this guy who has a large US audience was ragging on L'pool. So they were looking for a way to "get" him.

Second of all, if the H'boro incident is of no NA consequence then who's really to blame here? Heck I would imagine even the more hard core US soccer fans would not know much about it. If they don't know much about it then how can they be that upset. I personally know of it, but I can't go into details of the incident.

The campaign was probably fought by those in the UK who don't listen to the show and only want to take down Cohen because his anti-Liverpool statements over the years and H'boro gives them the opening to do so.

As for the political comments its an analogy not really meant to be timely. Just pointing out if someone didn't like the comments you don't listen to the show.

LFC supporters or at least the ultras, which they are, went over the line regardless of what Cohen said. Since he's some sort of owner of his own show then it's his right to do so and he must be ready for the consequence. But at no time is it acceptable (Rob, I know you said this) to call someone's family.

It's a talkshow about soccer. Like Rush, The View, Oprah, PTI or whatever it's an entertainment show to make money. Who's to blame here the idiots that went over the line and tried to can Cohen. Whether or not you think he's a "moron", he's allowed to say whatever he wants. Now if the advertisers or XM/Sirius want to not advertise or pull his show that's one thing. And maybe that's what is really driving this. I don't know.

I still think whatever you think of Cohen, the insane behavior by the ultras was reprehensible no matter what Cohen said.

American radio soccer host that has said that Liverpool fans share the blame for the Hillsborough tragedy. I believe he's also mentioned the ticketless fans part that was disputed in the Taylor Report.

It's not been reported at all over here in any of the usual media, so I'm not sure how anyone here would have got to hear about his original comments.

And I'm sorry, but the idea of Liverpool 'ultras' is very amusing...

The American Liverpool Supporters club headed up the effort. He's newly married and evidently, his new stepdaughters became the target of abuse lately.

It wasn't in the media. It was spearheaded through forums or that's what I gathered.

Nice play by Jozy to set up a goal for Hull.

So he played! Did he start? All this silly swine flu fiction was goofy, but it's nice to see the paperwork all taken care of, and the young man can earn his paycheck now. Word was he was in NJ training with his old club, which those of us who follow MLS would know, could have been terminally damaging to a young player. . . . Thank goodness he made it out of this RB disaster intact!

He was a sub. He nearly scored one of his own as well.

I think he might be worth getting into my FPL team. Nice and cheap, but with a lot more skill than any other Hull forward.

Just seen it , not bad for a first touch eh?

A great pass, very cool. I wish gihas or whatever thanked him a bit quicker instead of running off like it was all him.

Yeah but it was still pretty cool. I wish he had scored that goal, too, but the fans seem to be happy he's there. He got a very nice ovation when he came on.

He had a couple of real good chances he should have done better with and should of passed to ghias one time but quite an eventful 20 mins for him.

Looks very promising and i would say should earned him a starting spot for next game.

I have Hull as one of the teams that going down. Hopefully Jozy can show enough to get onto a more stable club. I don't know if he'll be good enough for a CL team but maybe he could get looks from Everton, AV or Tottenham if he matures properly.

Welcome to Louis van Gaal World. Good job he started telling City how to conduct their business before losing 2-1 to the noted European Club superpower that is Mainz 05, eh ?

On another topic, Squid, is there any history between Dortmund and Stuttgart ? I was watching their game this weekend and apart from Lehmann and Subotic's little spat, there was a lot of elbows and boots flying in, and the referee seemed overly lenient.
