I'm not pointing the finger at you, James, so don't take this as criticism of your post. But your post did light a fuse that has existed in me since I first saw the phrase "must win" used in these playoffs and during the regular-season playoff stretch drive.
It always cracks me up when media and fans say a certain game is a "must win." It's one of the biggest cliches in sports.
EVERY game in the playoffs is a "must win." Does anyone think Boston wants to take a vacation in Game 4 and bring the series back to Beantown even though it still would be ahead 3-1? Same with Vancouver in Game 4 against St. Louis.
Does anyone think Washington just felt like making the series with the NYR's a bit tougher on itself by losing the first two games, setting itself up for a rousing comeback?
There is no such thing as particular "must win" games in the playoffs. They're all "must win" games. Hell, every game in the regular season should be "must win," too, or you shouldn't be a professional athlete.
Rant over. This has become a "must stop" post for me. Then again, I bet all of you cats think every one of my posts should be "must stop" -- after the first sentence.
Take care,
PK
