2008 NFL Season

Edwards is really impressive. His college background isn't unlike that of Cutler, being beat up on a bad team but still having the physical ability and courage.
When he got it going, you could hear a loud pop as the ball hit the chest pads of his receivers.
Most impressive was that he stood in and delivered the ball in the face of heavy pressure in making some key plays.
Look at how much more finished he looks compared to Russell, who was drafted much higher than him in the same year.
I don't know who's tutoring him and he may not put up the numbers Cutler does, but he looks like a keeper.

Terrible, terrible loss. The Bears D really screwed up, but the officials really blew it on the unecessary roughness call on Charles Tillman. That should have been at worst offsetting penalities and a repeat of third down. I don't know how they missed a Bucs player pummeling one of the Bears when he was down on the ground.XXXIV wrote:The legend of Brian Griese grows![]()
This is also turning into one hell of an unpredictable NFL season. Titans and Bills 3-0, Colts 1-2, Pats getting destroyed at home by the Dolphins.

I agree about the Tillman play, and that was certainly a fatal play. OTOH: 67 pass attempts, 0 sacks. They should play next week with the logo covered in black. They don't deserve to wear it.

The Raiders are a VERY bad team. The Bills just took them lightly. It happens in the NFL...even to very good teams i.e. the Patriots. As soon as they give up on their Defensive End playing QB and completing 6 last week and 9 this week for a season total of 32...then they may have a shot.pk500 wrote:The Raiders aren't a bad team. I beg to differ on the Raiders. They're not horrible. They're not the Rams.dbdynsty25 wrote:The Raiders are a VERY bad team. The Bills just took them lightly. Plus at 2-0, with wins against Seattle and Jacksonville, I don't think the Bills came into this game feeling like they were the '72 Dolphins.
No doubt Russell isn't NFL material, but the Raiders' run blocking was damn good today for three quarters. And their pass rush made Bills Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters -- a preseason holdout -- look even more out of shape than he is.
I'd accept your point if the Bills played crummy for a quarter or a half. But the Raiders' offensive and defensive lines pushed them around for about 3 1/2 quarters. The Bills had plenty of time to wake up at halftime, and they didn't.
Russell is a liability, though. Dude's decision making is not too good.
The Bills could reach the bye week at 5-0. But those wins would come against Seattle, Jacksonville, Oakland, St. Louis and Arizona, so I won't start planning the playoff party during the bye week even if they arrive there perfect.
A nice start against weak teams -- that's all it is. Still, a damn good feeling to be 3-0.
Take care,
PK

I beg to differ with your differ, the Raiders are a horrible team. They'll be lucky to 5 games this year. The team doesn't respect Kiffin, he's 2 losses away from being fired, injuries are piling up, Rusell still doesn't know the playbook, etc... Yeah, they're not the Rams, but they're not as good as the 49'ers either (oy).pk500 wrote:I beg to differ on the Raiders. They're not horrible. The fact they played the bills tough is neato, but the bills should have beat them by 8 at home (at least). Jacksonville & Arizona will def be interesting games.
Sources: Raiders coach Kiffin to be fired as early as Mondaygreggsand wrote: I beg to differ with your differ, the Raiders are a horrible team. They'll be lucky to 5 games this year. Allowing 17 points in the final eight minutes of a 24-23 loss to the Bills might prove the final straw for Al Davis.
Sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Sunday that the Oakland Raiders owner intends to fire coach Lane Kiffin as early as Monday. Team officials have told the coach of the impending move.
Foxsports.com first reported that Kiffin will be fired.

When the NFL debuted as a weekly show in the UK in 1983, I picked a team to follow based on blind instinct, and vowed to stay with them even if they were bobbins.
I picked the Bengals....what an exciting 25 years that's been

Kiffin immediately will become one of the leading candidates to replace Syracuse head coach Greg Robinson when Robinson is mercifully fired, hopefully sooner than later.Rodster wrote:Sources: Raiders coach Kiffin to be fired as early as Monday

Kiffin was at USC when current Syracuse incompetent bullshitter extraordinaire, er, athletic director Daryl Gross was assistant AD to Mike Garrett. Gross and Kiffin are buddies. Plus Kiffin is young, a good-looking guy and is a name with an NFL pedigree, all things much more important to Gross than winning football games.
Seems like Kiffin is a perfect fit to continue the nightmare known as Syracuse football.

Hey, at least your Bengals are favored this week against the Browns. What a game that should be.davet010 wrote:When the NFL debuted as a weekly show in the UK in 1983, I picked a team to follow based on blind instinct, and vowed to stay with them even if they were bobbins.

All I have to say about the Browns so far this year is... GO CAVS!
I heard similar things watch some of the college games over the weekend as Kiffin's name came up. The bigger question is which numpty is willing to take the Raiders job. That organization is a mess partly due to Al Davis. That last bit of success was with Jon Gruden.pk500 wrote: Kiffin immediately will become one of the leading candidates to replace Syracuse head coach Greg Robinson when Robinson is mercifully fired, hopefully sooner than later.

They do indeed - in England, as in most other European countries, the structure is organised as a pyramid below the top 4 divisions, and there is promotion and relegation at all levels (usually top 3 at the end of a season go up to the level above, bottom 3 go down to the level below).Pete wrote:The only good thing about being in Lions country is that my lawn gets done on Sunday's.![]()
Talk about a pathetic organization. I don't know much about soccer, but don't they demote teams if they do bad? The Lions should be demoted.
This might provide a bit of spice if it was introduced into the NHL or MLB, but there are a few barriers.
- sports teams in the UK are not franchises, so the net worth can vary hugely year on year.
- My understanding, certainly as far as MLB goes, is that AAA teams are affiliates of MLB clubs, so realistically they could not be promoted into the same division as their 'parent' club (or even play them). This happens occasionally in Spain and Germany, where reserve team play in the professional leagues...even if Bayern Munich II finished top of the 2nd German division, they could not be promoted into the 1st to meet Bayern Munich FC.
- it would cause a great deal of problems for the player market in terms of long contracts (no one would sign one for a team that continually swapped divisions), and the financial implications of relegation from say the MLB (with its attendant TV money) to AAA level could well render teams insolvent.

Quiet down, you - or I'll render you unconscious by hitting you over the head with volume I of 'Great Bengal Draft Busts'.....that's the volume with the Round 1 picks in it.lexbur wrote:Hey, at least your Bengals are favored this week against the Browns. Alternatively, I shall send you to the parallel universe wherein Chris Perry is a viable every down back.

I agree about the Tillman call, but I hate that it's going to be the focus by many for the loss. As Rob mentioned 0 sacks, are you kidding.RobVarak wrote:Brando70 wrote:Terrible, terrible loss. Vasher drops a sure pick that would of sealed the game on that last drive. Davis lets a pass go through his hands that would of given the Bears a first down inside the Tampa 40 in OT.
Bottom line is if the Bears could of just made a single play in the last 2 games they would of been 3-0. Instead there a team with a Defense who can't last an entire game because of their age and can't make the plays at crunch time.
Unfortunately in my experience things like that don't get better, they just snowball.
Only positive out of yesterday is Lloyd, not because he had 100+ yards of receiving but he is the only Bears wide out in recent memory who adjusts to the ball. Again any of those bad throws, and most of them were bad, had went to last years receivers and there not caught.
Oh and I think my daughter could knock the s*** out of Garza if he is pulling on a play. That guy should be f***in embarrassed every Tuesday in the film room.
