Add one more to the list. My 360 just died last night. Right in the middle of a Call of Duty 4 DM. My screen froze and a blue and black checkered pattern took over the TV. I had to shut down, waited 5 minutes and then after I restarted the console the Red Ring of Death appeared.
I was hesitant to call 4-my-XBOX so I waited about 30 minutes and tried to fire it up again. No RROD and I played for 15 minutes and then POW! The whole screen went BLUE. The same screen as the "Blue sceen of Death" on the PC. On my last attempt on playing it took about 20 minutes the the scrren turned purple! Enough frick'n around. I finally called Microsoft. The coffin is on the way. I got my Xbox 360 in December after the launch.
Sorry if this story put anybody to sleep! I just wanted to share my experience.

Well now i'm not sure what to do with mine, i called in and received my coffin but didnt send it in because it was running great, in fact it runs great still but when it's connected to my HDTV the colors get distorted. A reboot usually fixes this so i was thinking it might be some HD funk between the console and the HDTV. Now it's past my one year but since i called in before the one year warranty expired i think that still should be honored. Now i could send it in or do the less then rightious thing and buy a new one then return the old console. Anyone have any HD issues with colors before?
I just bought my 360 from BB, one of the new lots i believe. I have 30 days to decide on the warranty.Rodster wrote:All of the recent design changes started with Lot #0734. Check the side of your box to make sure. Also if you have a 2 year warranty from BB then it's a moot point because before the 2 years are out you can get a new one.
The girl at the cash told me that the policy is if BB has to fix it more then 3 times, you get a replacement. What I wonder is how can BB fix an Xbox? Would they not just end up giving me a new one anyway?
This is the Performance Service Plan btw..... $70 for 2 years. They also appear to have a product replacement plan, but I bet that costs a lot more.

She has it wrong. That only applies to computers, TV's and high end electronics. The warranty you are purchasing is a PRP or product replacement plan. If your 360 dies within 2 years you can walk into the store and get another one.Gangrel wrote:I just bought my 360 from BB, one of the new lots i believe. What I usually do is right before the warranty expires I take back the system and make something up like it's freezes, etc. which they can't check. I then pick out another one buy another 2 year warranty and repeat the process.

It's pretty sad when a unit that lasts more than two years is considered miraculous for a product's life cycle. I've had the same TV for 12 years with no problems, the same MP3 player for almost four years with no problems, laptops for three years with no problems, etc., etc.Sudz wrote:my launch console JUST died a couple months ago.XXXIV wrote:Im amazed you made it this long...Those thingsHockeyJock wrote:

Actually, the girl at BB is correct if indeed the warranty is the Performance SERVICE plan, not the Product REPLACEMENT Plan. The REPLACEMENT plan is as you state. The SERVICE plan is as Gangrel stated. The key here is to make sure your get the REPLACEMENT plan....Rodster wrote:She has it wrong. That only applies to computers, TV's and high end electronics. I am on my second. My first still works if I towel trick it, but it is out of warranty so it is my backup. I got an arcade edition since i already have a hard drive, etc. Works fine but is louder than any of the ones I had during my multiple refurb/repairs.
Actually, I am starting to think that in 2 years we will be looking back at the latest win for Blu Ray as the turning point where the PS3 starts to get some momentum over the 360. What are the big exclusives for the 360 this year? Plus, I have been seeing a lot of PS3 TV spots lately.
I am a little frustrated at this point. I have played some excellent games on the 360, but frankly, none of them were sports games. My favorite baseball game is by far still High Heat on the PC, and NCAA 2004 on the PS2/Xbox is still my favorite football game. At least the PS3 has a great baseball game and it is apparently reliable, plays Blu Ray and doesn't make more noise than a Boeing 747.

Thanks Divot I missed that, LOL. Yeah the PRP is always the way to go and for the 360 I think the PRP is $60 for 2 years.DivotMaker wrote: Actually, the girl at BB is correct if indeed the warranty is the Performance SERVICE plan, not the Product REPLACEMENT Plan. I know, I know, lol. From impressions threads, and everything else I've read, I see equal things I like, and equal things that annoy the crap outta me in both games...... but it would be fun to go the NHL route and play online with you guys........Rodster wrote:NHL 08Gangrel wrote:Thanks guys, I'll make sure to specify the PRP. Maybe I'll pick it up at the same time as I pick up a hockey game...... (which one, I haven't decided yet, lol)
I have the demos for both, but the NHL08 one is just toooo fast for me to tell much about it, but i have been having lots of fun on the PC version, so who knows.

Are you sure you didnt get them mixed up ? 2k8 demo is warp speed compared to 08.Gangrel wrote:I know, I know, lol. But as was said, 08 with speed settings adjusted is not fast at all.
I agree they are both very fast, and maybe what I'm thinking about in NHL08 is more the pass speed then the game speed....Jimmydeicide wrote:

I'd like to rent them both and see which I'd prefer, but it's close to $10 to rent a game these days at Blockbuster, so it's almost half the price of a game to rent both of them.....
