Maybe.... but a great demo was the only thing that could have persuaded me to buy it on release day and I loved 2k5... Im all about football when Im not in My 3 month NFL hibernation...so I worry for them...

I just cant see spending $180 on 3 football games. I know I have always done it but there are things I need like and HDTV ....

2K's achilles heel has always been their lack of advertising. They rely on gaming websites and forums to get the word out. Kiosks at retail stores will have NCAA and Madden going with APF2K8 sitting silently on the shelves.

I'm glad to see LC Greenwood make the game. I ought to be able to put together a pretty good defense with him, Lambert, Lloyd and Woodson. With Bubby Brister or Neil O'Donnell at QB, I'm going to need all the defense I can get.
Thanks for that link GT. That's pretty damn cool if you ask me. I hadn't had a chance to look at all of the players that they signed so this was nice. I'm also starting to plan ahead for who I want on my team. That means I can get to the game faster! I'm so tempted to have a backfield of Payton and Sayers but will likely pick Payton and Butkus.

Ya know an online league here would be nice, something small and manageable.

A huge question for me is how are they going to break down the various superstar abilities.

Jim Harbaugh and John Elway both have the 4th quarter ability. Hopefully the three levels of legend will make the abilities different. So a laser arm for a gold in better than a laser arm for silver and bronze.

I'd definitely be up for a league that plays a game or so a week. There's the added benefit to this game for an online league in that, if someone else already had the Steelers, I wouldn't have any interest in joining the league and using let's say the Titans or the Chiefs. With this game, it doesn't matter what teams the other guys in the league are using so the only way someone gets shut out is if the league gets too large (can't see that happening).

No Sonny Jurgensen, no Pat Fisher, no Billy Kilmer, no Chris Hanburger, no Sam Huff. OK they have Charlie Talyor, and Bobby Mitchell who's listed as a receiver, but there's like three Redskins in the game and one of them is freaking Joe Theismann for crissake. Why would I want this game, again? You know, there are Redskins fans out there, 2K. Oh but thank goodness they got Natrone Means and OJ Simpson in there.

You realize they had to sign every single one of these guys to individual contracts, right? Everybody would have their own asking price, and some just may not do it. It's not like a blanket signing like the NFLPA or something.

There are tons of guys who "should" be in it, but aren't. Hopefully if it does well then more people will hop on board, like the Guitar Hero games. Not many people wanted to jump in with GH1, but now they're clamoring to be included.

Of course I realize that, but honestly I don't care too much about the reasons. To be fair I noticed they have BOTH Joe Jacoby and Russ Grimm, which is more than the Hall of Fame will do, but in the end, with the big draw of the game being these 'legend' players, and adding in the fact that I am a Redskins fan, there's not too much incentive for me personally to buy the game. I'm not too keen on the whole 'XFL/ Any Given Sunday/ Universal Studios Theme Park Thrill Ride' look of the thing, and though I like a lot of the legends they have in the game, I'm selfish and want to play with players I love from the team I love.

I just noticed that not only do they have Slingin' Sammy Baugh, but they also have Dave Butz! OK now I'm getting a little more interested! But they still should have done whatever it took to get Sonny in the game.

EDIT: Please note that I am trying really really hard to convince myself in any way possible to avoid buying this game. I have a feeling nothing is going to work, however, and I will break down well before the Gamefly option comes through. But I'm still going to keep trying!

Yeah, as a Raiders fan they're severely underrepresented as well...they only have Stabler, Marcus Allen, Biletnikoff, Cliff Branch, Todd Christensen, Jim Otto, Steve Wisniewski, Willie Brown, Jack Tatum, Terry McDaniel, Albert Lewis, etc...

I may pass!

They've got a lot of Bears players but I'm still excited to have John Jefferson on my team. Too bad they don't have Fouts.

I'm looking over some of these so-called legends. Bubby Brister? Eric Bieniemy? Brian f-ing Bosworth? Were Rodney Peete and Errict Rhett asking for too much money? Did Bryan Cox flip them off when he was approached?

Seriously, this game should be called All Pro Football Players We Could Afford 2k8. I can't believe they are charging $60 for this.

Sorry, but I have to strongly disagree with this. It's the fact that there are such a wide variety of guys signed that makes this so interesting. I know I'm more interested in the guys they inked at the bronze tier than in the gold tier. It adds a ton of character.

Page 2 over at espn.com has a story on the making of the game today, or more accurately, what 2k had to do to get some of these guys in the game.

The packaging and marketing and hooplah says "legends." And a lot of these guys listed in the bronze level are hardly that. I think it is kind of cool that that included special teams stars like Steve Tasker and Mel Gray, and you definitely don't want to have a game packed with Hall of Famers who all have the same attributes. But really, are we dying for a game where Steve Grogan connects with Alvin Harper?

I guess what is bugging me is that so many of the design decisions in this game make no sense. The whole league structure, the curb on editing options, and now a peek into what constitutes a legend, which I guess includes people who never made a Pro Bowl or sat on the bench for long stretches of their careers. At this point, I think I'd be more interested in MS releasing a 360 compatability patch for 2k5 and downloading updated rosters.

Anyway, I'm not going to belabor the point, and I do hope the game is fun to play.

That was a very good article. The stuff about the older players was pretty funny. And I liked the bit about the decals on Michigan's helmets setting message boards ablaze -- gee, wonder which site he might have been talking about? :D
